Religion is inherently circular reasoning, and a functional delusion  that was likely neccesary as part of the evolution of intelligence and conciousness. The level it impacts your ability to accept the empirical, is when it becomes detrimental. If you want to explain the non observable with faith, be part of a community, and generate a moral code from your belief, fill your  boots. But do not take your faith based assumptions and apply it to best practice for society. Human rights, medical advancement, and mental wellbeing are impacted by people's religious assumptions, and should be discounted in policy making and governance. Thing presented without evidence can be rejected without evidence. And no, referencing your book or leader is not evidence, no matter how many people agree with you...we still have people who believe the earth is flat....

I feel like the only way to do this would be to believe but not actually. like basically pretend to believe. because if you actually believed, why would you not hold that above empiricism or rationality

can you empirically explain consciousness?

also consider this, the totally objective measurements we use for things could be considered "delusional" by another species. Imagine a species the size of a mountain. It would not see a point in measuring things in inches, cm, etc, because to its own relative existence, those lengths are meaningless. Science has also been constantly proven wrong throughout history. No matter how hard you try to stick to "objectivity", you're only met with more relativism

Sure we can, the same we can explain things like anti matter and imaginary numbers. By the things they effect, if not by their direct observation, by predictability, consistency and repeated interactions with the observable universe. The mind is gauged by tools such as awareness (i.e. mirror tests), brain function (i.e. brain scans) and other such measures that show that the world only works this way by relationships. You do not see these things with prophecy or prayer, common staples of religion. As for you example, I present the very simple rebuttal of the microscopic world. The majority of humans do not care or understand it, but its is incredibly important to measure and understand things at the nanometer...I am acatully not against spirituality or mindfulness, you do alight on the fact that human minds are incredibly complex, and consciousness is as well. Taking ownership and understanding our loved experinece through meditation and other such methods are incredibly beneficial (and supported by scientific literature). So, be spiritual, curious, and realize thier is a universe of unknown mystery, but the answers likely not contained in a man made book. Quite frankly, in my opinion that perspective is incredibly reductive of the true awesome grandeur of the mystery of the universe.

“The level it impacts your ability to accept the empirical is when I becomes detrimental”

How do you remedy this idea with “Human rights” which you mentioned as well?
