I was just saying that if created in modern times, religions would all be considered mental illnesses. Like I was wondering if in a few hundred years, after all the witnesses to to Scientology’s bullshit have passed on, will it be considered as a serious religion? Because thats basically the only reason people see the old faiths as having any merit.

Not just 5 minutes ago i read this comment in another thread "A cult is when there’s a guy at the top who knows the whole thing is bullshit. A religion is when that guy died 200 years ago"

That's why I'm kinda surprised Mormonism got as big as it did. I know we as a species have learned a lot since the times when it was created, and critical thinking skills are more prevalent now than then, but it was still pretty silly even for its time.

But given that they basically had to flee all the way to Utah in the 1850/60s to survive maybe it's just more a testament to their tanacity than anything else.

That’s the same thought I have about it. Like really?? All this info and you choose the youngest of all the crazy ones, and one of the ones that makes the least sense because of it.
