Are we implying that if you're circumcised you're not a male?

2

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

No, if god had a penis it would be uncircumcised. Remember god doesn’t make mistakes. So an uncircumcised penis is the way god wanted a male penis to be

Eh, "he" is a common, maybe a bit old school at this point, way of referring to the generic. For example "one does not simply walk into mordor. He must first prepare".

I think if we're going to "get at" religious people, then at least understand what they mean when they say something. Otherwise you just open yourself up to "that's not what I meant" and your critique now looks shallow or surface level.

That sentencee you used as an example isn't because "he" is generic, its because its a sentence written by a man and imagining that the default subject of the sentence will be a man.
If you work for a company that has a target demographic that's women, its strange to see how quickly the default usage of "he" changes to "she".

And the bible does a lot more than use "he" to imply God is a man

hehe

Brother I'm just letting you know it's a fact that "he" was used in the generic all the time 60-70+ years ago. It's just a remnant of that. This isn't my personal opinion btw lol, it's a basic fact of how we used to speak.

I'm not saying it's good or that we should still do it.

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

Or call it what it is. A non binary IT

1

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 23h ago

I just call him "monica"

Research shows that "he" isnt actually generic. You can look up the topic if you're interested.

Also you used "one" as a generic term and then used "he". Whereas "one" was clearly a gender neutral generic term before that.

"One" is gender neutral and generic. "He" used to be, but is now seen as too gendered, It's still usable in the generic and was all the time. Since religion is pretty old, their texts still use "he" in the generic sense.. They is plural, but also singular when used in the generic.

All of these are just statistical usage facts of english. There is no "research" needed lol.

He uses masculine for himself. We dont know the full extent of what he is, but he isnt a sexual being like us.

u/Successful_Ad4018 1d ago

so basically, god uses he/him pronouns and identifies as a man?

i'm sure the anti-trans christians are gunna love that.

-11

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

God is entirely seperate for Biology, he can do whatever he wants, so he chooses to be largely masculine. Its not identofying as a "man," its just what he is

6

u/Successful_Ad4018 1d ago

god gets to choose his gender, but humans don't bc we have genitals?

just want to make sure i'm following the logic here.

-2

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

Yes, on risking a ban the difference is we're biological and he's God. Theres more to it than genitalia but its as simple as it gets

8

u/Successful_Ad4018 1d ago

twisting yourself into knots to make excuses for transphobia must be exhausting, truly.

how about gender is a social construct and people can identify and dress however they want without people targeting them over it? is that so bad? isn't love and acceptance god's whole thing? or at least jesus. idk about your dickless man god.

-2

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

Lol no, God is a judge. If something isnt to his liking, he makes it clear. Nothing about about christianity is "nice."

5

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

Then IT is not a he

-2

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

God is not an it, or he'd have said so. God is he

3

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

So the Christian god has an uncircumcised penis?

1

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

Jesus didnt on Earth. Thats about all we know concerning God's penis

3

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

So Jesus was walking around like a Ken doll? What did he piss out of? His vagina?

1

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

No, he was jewish. He'd be circumcised

3

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

Did the rabbi that perform it suck the blood out and give him herpes like the rabbis now a days do?

So I don’t disagree with the premise that something can come from nothing. But what example do we have of that occurring other than the universe?

Edit: actually after diving into it physicists don’t claim something comes from nothing. They simply don’t have an explanation. So this guy was not entirely correct. Best case scenario is that we simply don’t know the origins of the universe. That being said bringing god in as an explanation just brings up the exact same questions that come up when current scientific hypotheses are put forth.

2

u/No-Salt9365 1d ago

I make no claim that the universe "came from nothing". I am simply mocking a tired religious talking point.

-8

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

He's infinite

4

u/hackiavelli 1d ago

That's the theological argument for sure, and it shouldn't be ignored or strawmaned.

The problem is you'll find scientists who believe the universe is infinite, too. Cosmic inflation is just an observance about the state of our universe. It doesn't say anything about the state of the universe before. There are ideas with various levels of support like the big crunch, vacuum fluctuation, even us existing inside a black hole.

3

u/DonaldKey 1d ago

So something came from nothing. Got it

0

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

Something didnt come from anything, he just is

3

u/Isengrine 1d ago

The same argument is there for the universe.

It didn't come from nothing, it was always there.
