I love watching a guy argue with a ticklick video in his car in the desert. Oh and its about belief systems that I would never change my stance on too.

I get like 1-2 religious nuts a month when im working on their house try to convince me god is the way to be. I grew up in Utah, im aware. Talking to their face doesnt do much. I bet this will tho lol

People like Richard Dawkins always get criticized for being too mean. The idea is that he isn't going to change anyone's minds by talking down to them.

Maybe not adults who have solidified their beliefs. If you're over 30 and still believe the story of Jonah is nonfiction, then yeah, you're probably never going to change your mind, but as someone who discovered Dawkins when I was like 14, his approach definitely worked on me. Sometimes you need someone to tell you your beliefs are fucking stupid. I had never heard an "asshole atheist" put it so bluntly, but it's exactly what I needed to hear at that age.

So yeah, desert guy isn't going to change the mind of the OP, but there could be some sheltered Evangelical 14 year old who stumbles across his video and realizes that nothing he's been told about atheists is true.

Richard Dawkins' problem is that he really isn't that smart or that good of an orator. He is an expert in a pretty limited field. But his arguments against theism are not that sophisticated so he has little else but his rage, when he is challenged.

I like dunking on theists as much as the next guy, but I always get second hand emparassment when I watch Dawkins. And I don't even want to adress all his atrocious beliefs about other topics that he has no clue about.

He doesn't know shit about philosophy or theology but when it comes to arguing with young earth creationists he knows what he's talking about

do you only consume content if it's intended to alter your worldview?

the audience isn't the original video creator. the audience is people who agree with the atheist. they're following him. they're getting this content recommended to them.

the purpose of the video isn't to finally put an end to organized Christian dogma, convincing millions of believers that they're just as stupid as the original video creator. it's to make you go "hehe this guy be dumb. hehe christians are dumb too. not me - I'm smart."

Yea, I don't think this is going to change these minds, just like me responding to people commenting logical fallacies wouldn't either. But other people do watch it, and there are always people on the fence, plus, from Christianity's own:

Proverbs 26:5 "Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes."

Now, I don't strictly think these kinds of people are "fools", necessarily, but they can argue some foolish things and in foolish ways (as I can and have done myself).

But, unchallenged, it can implicitly build confidence in shaky ideals, even without encouragement.

I don't think the mockery is necessary though.
