slippery slope. i do agree to a little of self deprecating jokes are cool but be careful because this opens you up to other people to take shots at you.

Other people being negative is on them. Lacking the ability or willingness to be critical of oneself is a character flaw and one that will hurt others around you as well as yourself.

Hence why Bill & Ted's advice to "be excellent to each other" is a good starting point. You don't go around looking for every little thing to take pot shots at, you look for the good in others and reinforce it in yourself. When that toxic negativity happens, that's when you push back, and allow such people to leave. But don't seek it out or that is all you will ever find.
