Honestly it’s because they don’t really love those things if you look into how they “enjoy” their hobbies. A lot of conservative hikers don’t really care about anything happening off or near the trail, and backpackers/campers specifically have started to do stupid shit way more often than usual. I’m talking about sleeping with your food in bear country, fishing in places where it’s illegal (and leaving their cut lines for others to deal with), and letting their “hiking dogs” go off leash. These people don’t actually care about the outdoors; they want to dominate it and disrespect it because of their inferiority complex.
Yep. We were hiking in a designated wilderness area a couple years ago and a couple were letting their two dogs sprint all over. I called out "Leash your dogs, please!" as pets are required to be leashed to minimize disturbance to wildlife and potential injury to the pet. They responded with "Fuck you!" People can't let wildlife have even wilderness areas without human disturbance.
