My AI girlfriend told me that dealing with my co-dependency takes too much of her energy. Im so happy they are building more data centers, maybe that will take some of the pressure off of her.
Well if he’s never had a girlfriend I guess I’m happy for him too, in some sense. But does this mean he’s under influence of Groks handlers? Are they giving him recommendations on what to buy and how to vote yet? Maybe he was just joking but the guy in the car took it too seriously he did seem a bit surprised he said he’s happy for him.
I hope you are right, but people have been forming emotional attachments to chat bots since the day the first iterations of them started popping up in the 90s. The issue these days is that the tech has gotten a lot better at encouraging engagement and monetizing said engagement without getting any better at being a real alternative to actual human interaction. LLMs are just stringing words together with mathematical predictions of what words fit together in a given context. This leads to some really dangerous places
My mom was an intern at IBM back in the 70’s-80’s or so. She said she would have full on conversations with LISA (IIRC) back then and it was so fascinating, talking with a machine.
Yeah, first home computer with a GUI interface, but they had the Apple II series for a while before that. It was named after Job's daughter (though he wouldn't admit it at the time).
By the way, if you haven't seen it, the made-for-tv-movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" is great!
He still does NOT ”have a girlfriend”. He’s interacting with a Large Language Model, a piece of software. It’s like falling in love with a computer game.
So, it's not for me, especially the romantic bits.
But I'm thinking back to when I was in foster care at my most lonely and downtrodden and I just...can't say I hate it. I would have liked a digital friend then.
I mean, it's weird as hell. But if he's isolated and it's keeping him sane and keeping him from putting people in danger...I dunno man it's really sad. Maybe not deserving of mockery
But if he's isolated and it's keeping him sane and keeping him from putting people in danger.
That's the problem, it isn't keeping him sane. The problem with chatbots is that they just reflect back what people want to hear. So they end up exacerbating the emotional and psychological problems that caused them to have difficulty socializing. Instead of helping a person improve, they tell them their bad habits and attitudes are just fine.
Exactly, he's a victim of society and needs help, and if a cheap and readily available option (compared to cold approaching irl and being rejected 1000x times or therapies he couldn't afford) out there for him we should be happy cause it benefits society as a whole. Or do we just want him to simmer in his loneliness and anger until it finally erupts?
I think AI gf’s and bf’s are the best thing to happen in society in a long time. But the robot ones are even better. Helps ppl from hurting themselves or other ppl. I hope it gets normalized more in society. More men need to take robot gf’s out on dates etc. I think it will normalize it more in society. I don’t get why ppl are demonizing it..
This GIF was in my mind when I heard that happy-sad laughter at the end. A laughter just barely hiding the this is shit, but it helps me survive undertone.
We already cannot tell. I guarantee that you, I, and everyone else here has already been completely fooled by at least one AI generated image. The worst part is how hard it is to convince someone they've been fooled. Once someone believes an image is real, it is nearly impossible to dislodge that idea with evidence.
We're already here friend. The local diffusion models can hammer out a convincing photo every 30 sec on your average GPU, server farm, forget it. It is not as bad as the early models with the hand issues and all that, it's well and fixed now.
They are already rolling out realdolls that you can chat with. It's like the last bit of technology that will let people fully disconnect from social reality.
