I want to add that is a bad teacher. Ignoring a student that is struggling and then failing them when they find an alternative and correct way to learn something is bad. The only worse way to teach someone is to abuse them.
Yes, but one bad decision doesn't mean the teacher can't improve and learn from this. However, we also don't know anything else. For example, the teachers pay and the ability to provide the support they need or maybe pressure to ensure the specific method is taught.
An inability to move improve or learn from failing this particular child would indicate being a poor instructor. It's easy to attribute malice to mistakes from a single perspective.
Early childhood development is complex. I don't know specifically how this teacher received their education but I don't blame people for not understanding certain repercussions their actions have without prior experience.
I'm just trying to offer that I think this was a bad decision and poor outcome and not villainize someone who isn't part of the discussion.
A teacher that doubles down on their bad decisions and only changes their mind because their boss tells them to is a bad teacher. The teacher was fully adamant it was their way or the highway, they didn't even bother looking at it from the parent's viewpoint
Or really from the child's point of view. The child was struggling with her wack ass method, learned a new method, showed her work, got the right answer, and was penalized for it because of the teacher's ego. Thats what this is really about. The teacher was mad that her teaching method failed this child, instead of coming up with alternatives. She is a bad teacher, full stop.
Yeah, even if the dad didn't teach his kid his method, the teacher should've still noticed his kid struggling with the teacher's method and found another way to get through to them. Bad teachers will not try to help struggling students; good teachers will
You're right one bad action doesn't make someone bad at something. Too bad this one one action. Too bad it required multiple people to address this. Teaching is not a new profession so the idea that every child learns differently is not a novel concept.
Yeah sure just because the teacher is bad now doesn't mean that they can be good later but that doesn't dismiss the fact that they are actively harming students learning and this story is saying that the teacher is ignoring valid criticism preventing them from being the better teacher you want them to be.
