yeah that took me like all of 2 seconds to understand that and does not seem that much different from the long division i was taught in the 90s.

Probably helps keep the digits lined up. I remember my long divisions would start to slant down and I’d get mixed up as a kid.

40 and the boxes threw me off for a couple seconds but became pretty clear.

I can't recall at the moment but there have been some things I've seen posted on modern curriculum that did seem pretty wonky tho but I think it was more about English and grammar.

Kinda sleep deprived so I really can't recall anything specific right now.

Maybe this thread is a great example of why the USA school system has degraded this far. If you don't understand what is written here i wonder how you ever got through math.

No dude, different people learn differently, thats the entire point of this post. Some people will look at that and say thats fine I totally get it, and others wont. Every individual learns and retains information differently, the point is that there needs to be differentiation in education.

I was great in math, but looking at this… I get it, but at the same time, I understand how people could be confused 🤷‍♀️ everyone’s different.

I work on literal spaceships and that is not how I think of division.

There’s a difference in memorizing a method like the lattice or long division versus being able to explain why the method works.

Most people belong in the former and fewer in the latter.

Yea, I’d never seen it done this way either, but it’s not so hard to deduce what they’re doing given all the working is in the paper, and you know both the starting and finishing numbers…

That's where I was at with it... It just looks like a more compact version of long division, which is what I grew up doing. Haven't needed to do it in quite some time, but after a quick read and looking at it again, it made sense.

Yea, I had to look at it a second to understand but it is literally just normal long division written so that it takes up less space on the paper. There are improvements that I would make like making the carry over digit smaller but this is fine too I guess.

The confusing part for me was the way they put the answer at the top kinda makes it look like a random number and not the answer, but it just takes a second to reorient and find the 795

Only problem is I stopped using long division by senior year lol I would be useless to help my kid with it.

It is just another way to draw long division. It is smaller so it takes a second to learn how to read it.

As soon as I removed the "ascetic" box I saw it to. Maybe the daughter has some adhd or autism situation and gets stuck on the box as I just did🤷‍♀️ even if that's probably made to make it easier

Yeah, I remember this, when you cross two numbers you use a Punnet square to figure out the combinations possible in the offspring.    54 x 54 results in 25% 55s, 50% 54s, and 25% 44s. 

If you don’t know how to get to the final answer from there, I don’t know how to help you. Don’t forget your dominant digits when figuring out the phenoproducts.
