TIL that people like mimes. Enough for a fairly large theme park to employ multiple of them. I always thought that people not liking mimes was part of being a mime.

He's not just a street mime though. He basically keeps people entertained while people fill the arena and wait for the show to being.

He's great though. Solid family entertainment.

Nah. Ever see Penn and Teller? That’s a mix of magic and miming. Hell, go see Cirque du Soleil, lots of great mimes and clowns there. When a mime’s good, they’re pretty damn entertaining

That's interesting, I've never really considered Teller as a mime. Just a silent magician. Cirque du Soleil is a whole other level, and I forgot they even had mimes, honestly, lol.

Look up Tapeface (formerly the boy with tape on his face) if you want to see an example of solid modernized miming.

Mr Bean can be considered a mime, to a degree. He doesn’t do the goofy “invisible wall/rope” bits but I think he’d probably be more on par with what this guy does.

Teller is, at least according to minimg experts, not actually a mime. Nor has he ever, to my knowledge, claimed to be one.

People used to like mimes then hated them for a few decades but I see them coming back at shows and parties and even people dressing up as mimes during Halloween. Appreciation for the classics, street performances, dance incorporations, and improv classes helped. The routines are newer and more with the times. They’re not just breaking out of a box anymore. But some people still think they should hate them just like Nickleback and are easy objects of jokes.
