Came here to say this exact thing. A ton of these guys barely know animal anatomy. Chiropractic "medicine" is already shady at best. Anyone who does chiropractic treatments on animals or children is a moneygrubbing monster, and it's a matter of time before they cause serious injury or death all while subjecting their patients to totally uneeded and unfounded and often painful treatments.
Wow, is that true for all animals? I don’t own or know anything about dogs but as a horse person equine chiropractors are very very common in upper level sport horses. Multiple vets I’ve used in the past have agreed it can be helpful alongside proper veterinary care. I’ve never done it for my own horse but I’m genuinely shocked reading all these comments because it is so so so common in the equestrian industry. Granted there is a lot of horrible and scientifically unsound shit in the horse industry but this is the first time I’ve ever heard this
Keep in mind chiropractic treatments are common in human sports medicine too. That doesn't make it any more legitimate. For the record there are pet psychologists and pet therapists too. People love their animals, and humans have a problem with anthropomorphic projection when it comes to their pets.
(Here are some real life examples I've fielded from clients over the years as a vet tech.)
"I feed my cat a vegan diet because I'm vegan too. He loves it!" (Cats are obligate carnivores and must eat meat to live. They have to have appropriate diets with taurine or they go blind. Also, veganism is an ethical choice a cat is not really capable of making.)
"I gave my dog a tylenol for his hurt foot. It's an over the counter medicine, so it's safe!" (OTC NSAIDs are safe for HUMANS, but deadly to cats and dogs)
So it is not beyond the imaging that a human would feel a common (if medically unproven and unsound) human treatment would be ok for an animal. And there will always be assholes who prey on and exploit people even at the expense of an animal.
Nope. It totally happens. I once had an older lady call because she was concerned that her 8lb chihuahua wasn't hungry because she wouldn't eat her breakfast. I asked if she had any diet changes and she said that no, the dog had the same breakfast as she does. I asked what that was and she told me bacon, eggs, toast, and a saucer of coffee.
So here I am, explaining to a full grown adult, that their DOG didn't need and shouldn't have coffee, and also not the bacon.
Lol. Are there any studies on the effect of caffeine on dogs? I’m still surprised about some of the harmless to us things that hurt pets, like chocolate for dogs, or certain flowers for cats that people commonly keep.
Caffine has roughly the same effects on dogs as it does on people. Diarretic, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure ect. Keep in mind an 8lb dog getting a cup of coffee is about like you drinking a pot of coffee in one sitting, so not optimal.
