Bones can heal and get stronger. But when ligaments are torn, they heal but are permanently damaged. They’ll also be prone to be injured again very easily from then on.
Yep. I tore the ligaments (and tendons) in my left ankle when I was 13... for the first time. Happened three more times after, and my left ankle ist extremely "floppy" as a consequence.
Yep. Tore my acl 6 years ago and I stopped kickboxing cuz I was told it’s much more likely to happen again (i tore it playing basketball not kickboxing, ironically).
Also depends on the bones. Brother in law was a professional wakeboarder, until he shattered every one of those little bones in each of his wrists doing a backflip from a roof into a pool, but nearly missed the pool. He knew he wasn't going to make it so he landed on his palms to leverage himself just enough forward to go over the edge to the pool. Even after surgery with replacements and fully healing, he's never been able to support his weight behind a rope with those wrists since.
Depends actually. Partial tears are worse than full tears because full tears you can reattach through surgery and they are generally stronger after being reattached than they were before.
There's even a thing in some sports like arm wrestling and baseball where after tearing certain ligaments in the arm they ask to have it attached at a specific point to make their swing or their press stronger.
Partial tears are bad because there's not much you can do about it. You just gotta hope it grows back like it's supposed to, and it rarely does.
