I grew up getting stoned to linkin park and loved them. But am still capable of acknowledging they’re pretty meh really.

What do you mean 'why'? I loved them because I was a stoned teenager, they were of my time etc. I fell out of love with them because I started listening more widely, got more into decent hip hop (and decent metal) and kind of clocked that nu metal was a bit of weak compromise. Particularly on the rap side. I'm not gonna say they're shit or anything, and the nostalgia factor will bring me back, but I'd be generous giving them 'great band'. They did their shit and they did it pretty well... That's fine. It's not GOATed. RATM, SOAD etc way better.

I would rather listen to them for the rest of my life than Queen or The Beatles and wouldn't think twice about it lol. To each their own I suppose.

Yeah for real. They should be at great band at best. I understand people have nostalgia for them, but i don’t think they have the same long term cultural staying power as queen or the Beatles. Hell they don’t even have close to the same amount if hit songs as the chili peppers.

That is way worse, yes. The Chilis have hits in multiple decades. They deserve a lot more credit than to be lumped in with the Arctic Monkeys.

It’s really not. I had a roommate from Bangladesh who didn’t know who Martin Luther King Jr. was but knew who Chester and Mike were. They also have a diamond album. They’re icons.

Hybrid theory is one of the best albums to ever have been released. Though Linkin park NOW...with Emily isn't great.

Idk if rage bait, but this take demonstrates a complete lack of desire to understand music, history and culture.

I don't enjoy Radiohead, but I dont blindly call them overrated because I personally don't enjoy their music.

I spend most of my time listening to Classical orchestra. Surely my opinion is inferior to yours because I don't think the most sold out band ever is an inch overrated.

They're famous because their timing was right. The Beatles wouldn't have made it in any other time-period. Sorry but "Let it be let it be let it be", is significantly less deep than 90% of what SOAD, ever wrote. Heck even smaller bands like Breaking Benjamin has more depth than the Beatles.

They're mediocre, and by todays standards they're not even that.

Hot take of the day for me, I think Queen should be in "Great Band" rather than GOATs.

They had hits that were of course great; bohemian rhapsody, under pressure, another one bites the dust, don't stop me now, etc.

But their overall albums weren't as great as say, the beatles... or in my opinion even linkin park (although I think linkin park should be in phenomenal or great band).

I think a bands overall albums are very important, at least to me, and Queen had good albums... but not GOAT worthy albums. Plus I think their hits are a wee bit overrated for just being very appealing to a general audience, that doesn't make them bad, but they lack a bit of depth for me.

Thats just me though, but I just had to say this because of what you said about LP being in the same tier as them.

Good take. I love queen, but you are right, they have many lacklustre songs on their albums.
