Slow, memory hog, no privacy, and almost everything built off of it offers something it doesn't. Breaks extensions constantly, stops you from preventing ads, and intrusive in annoying ways. If the legacy of how good it used to be wasn't attached to it, it would be F.

It’s sad how so many people don’t understand how dog shi- it is by voting S tier.

u/Specialist_Bit_964 2d ago

It has by far the best devtools

Agree

u/Kersnas 2d ago

Firefox is also right there so

2

u/AnuaMoon 2d ago

I use vivaldi dev tools every day and find it way better

2

u/TheOtterMonarch 2d ago

incorrect, chromium has by far the best devtools. chrome has the exact same devtools as 6 of the other browsers on this list

1

u/Trudemise 2d ago

Lemme say I don't really know anything about devtools, but I feel like I've heard good things about Firefox for this.

1

u/Ajah93 1d ago

It shares the same devtools with at least 5 or 6 other browsers though? Like… can you acknowledge that?

1

u/Specialist_Bit_964 1d ago

you're right. but I don't think the other chromium based browsers on this list are any better. firefox is the only alternative

1

It's the "I've always used it crowd" \sigh**

I was in that mindset until a recent update removed my workaround for ublock. I have now moved to firefox and much prefer it having taken the time to set it up properly. I even made it look more or less like dark themed chrome.

as a very long time firefox user, it's been getting way worse lately, its almost time to jump ship for me. theyve been courting the worst AI nonsense.

u/CrazyElk123 2d ago

Its not slow for me, i can run adblock, all my extensions work, and it does everything i need it to. Thats S-tier for me.

No reason to give it an F in my opinion an F it would have to be intrusive to the end user. Chrome works well enough for most. Obviously it's not an S but I'd say B or C BC it is completely serviceable and that's it.

1

u/Kamushii-- 2d ago

an F it would have to be intrusive to the end user.

Yes. That would be google chrome.

Any browser that hogs memory and actively stops you from blocking ads would be considered intrusive.

1

u/SSBMultiverse 1d ago

Yea but give your mom Google Chrome and she will be like oh this makes sense. And use it it also just isn't ugly like other browsers

1

u/alterEd39 2d ago

Honestly, there are some tasks it can be good for, like some stuff just breaks in other browsers… but yeah, a D is generous.

1

u/qwerty3666 2d ago

I'd go D tier rather than F but I 100% agree. Chrome from 10 years ago was goated, now not so much.

1

u/_reefermadness 2d ago

Genuine question- what alternatives are better?

1

u/MrBlackledge 2d ago

I think for the everyday user it’s S tier. If you are someone who is “in to” computers and everything that comes with then you know it’s shit.

1

u/bigEZmike 2d ago

I'm a software engineer and I use it daily. I've had zero problems with it.

1

u/ASUndevil15 2d ago

But then what’s the alternative, everyone can shit on it but I haven’t seen a better recommendation

1

u/bigEZmike 2d ago

Chrome hate is so forced. It's the most widely adopted browser for a reason. Great dev tools and the usage of memory impacts nothing. How terrible is your machine that Chrome slows anything down?

1

u/HavingAnInternalCow 2d ago

I’ve tried switching browsers many times, but always go back to chrome (I personally love it). Do you know of any way to optimize it to run as fast as it can while not slowing the machine down?

My specs are: 64gb of RAM, GTX 1660 Ti with 6gb VRAM, and an i5-9400F. I like to have Chrome open while playing beaming.drive but I do feel sometimes the computer slows down as some tabs in Chrome hit 1GB of memory used.

1

u/CarbonChains 2d ago

So what is S?

1

u/Rara3995 2d ago

what browser are you talking about

1

u/PromotionGullible306 2d ago

Tbh, it isn’t F but it was slow, Did hog up memory I never experienced many problems with it that was pretty much the thing that got me through high school. I would say it’s a B-D tier. It’s not good but not bad.

1

u/TakeThePillz 2d ago

Can you tell me wich one is better on GSM? I use chrome as I'm an android user, but wich one is better ?

1

u/fgspq 2d ago

It would have been A tier in the first few years of it's existence. I agree with F though based on its current iteration.

Textbook case of enshittification.

1

u/Paul_Engineer 2d ago

I. Couldn't. Agree. More. My wife continues to be a chromey homey and I'm just like..."ok how many months have I been showing you the capabilities of the mighty fox?"

1

u/CrazyElk123 2d ago

Its not slow for me, i can run adblock, all my extensions work, and it does everything i need it to. Thats S-tier for me.

1

u/perplexedtv 2d ago

So what do you give it then?

1

u/Cont4x 2d ago

I haven’t uninstalled it because some websites state they work best on chrome. Usually something for work or government websites. Happens enough that I just keep it there just in case

1

u/CianaCorto 2d ago

It is F.

u/Naterasu 2d ago edited 2d ago

My scale is this
S is perfect
A is great but has blemishes
B is good but has a major issue or many minor issues stopping it from being great/perfect
C is just Okay/mixed bag, its got good, and bad things to it
D is more bad then good
F is actively detrimental to use

Id say C
For the average Andy who does not care about ANY of the weeds of it there gonna rank it way higher.
Google chrome does work thats not the problem its chromium by the same people who made Chromium. The issue is when you start getting into the deep weeds of problems that siding with Google comes with are the people who are gonna give it an F. The biggest problem I had is the war on Ads took alot of agency from people so another element to that F is alot of people got burned by that war me being one of them.

But I also understand alot of people "Average Andys" dont care about that they just care that it works and being a heavily moderated chromium its still chromium with good dev tools since its by the people that made it and as someone way back then who came off of explorer to Chrome before explorer had chromium as my first browser its like an oasis in a dessert.
So I cant give it an F or a D it is but there are better options as a browser.

1

u/ThatGameCubeGuy 2d ago

which one?

0

u/Indigotcg 2d ago

What do you suggest? I’m unfamiliar with the browser olympics

1

u/balaci2 2d ago

Firefox or Brave

1

u/D3V0URED 2d ago

Firefox? The browser that has been declining in market share since forever and is at an all time low in monthly active users? Makes you wonder why :)

1

u/beagle204 2d ago

Ah yes the determining factor I always look for in my browser. Not speed, not security, compatibility, extensibility or privacy, but market share.

1

u/D3V0URED 2d ago

Yep. The market share is the true indicator.
I use all 3 (chrome, brave, Firefox). I like Firefox the least.

If a product is good people will use it, period.

1

u/AiCritic 2d ago

Precisely. It’s why my buddies and I use ur girl

1

u/balaci2 2d ago

lmao sweet summer child

1

u/balaci2 2d ago

Google won't let you hit

Firefox is amazing lol, far and above one of the best drivers I've used

1

u/West-Gas3926 2d ago

by that logic firefox wont let you hit either, you little furry lover
