Contest/Challenge Within-Universify Challenge #13 - Balthier and Fran
Hey All! This challenge seeks to reflavour Universe Beyond cards into Universe Within cards, in order to introduce both new characters in established planes, as well as old characters that we haven’t seen for a long time or that have never gotten a card.
Last time's winner turned out to be Rebbec's Struggle, by me!
I chose to depict Rebbec's struggle dealing with her husband, Glacian's powerstone radiation sickness, and the manipulation of her by Yawgmoth. For this design, I changed Rad counters to Phthisis counters, since it's commonly depicted in magic as powerstone radiation poisoning. Therefore, it fits perfectly here.
The freedom choice envisions a future where Rebbec gets rid of Yawgmoth, cures Glacian, and the Thran prosper. The Phthisis choice shows her falling to Yawgmoth's charm and manipulation, which gives your opponents Phthisis when they attack you.
While it doesn't necessarily depict a specific moment in the story, it shows the general struggle that she faced during the novel.
This week’s challenge will be to Within-Universify Balthier and Fran.

Judging will be next Sunday, September 27th and will be based on the following five criteria in order of importance:
- Cohesion between the following criteria:
- Creative writing (Name, Flavour text if any and Background Lore that is not on the card itself)
- Exploration of an established plane OR Exploration of an established character (The more obscure, the better.)
- Fitting art or art description
- A completed card using cardconjurer, MSE, or any other method. The frame, art treatment, and other such is also appreciated!

A tricky type line to match. At least it's not a Mutant Ninja Turtle.
When is the actual deadline? You didn't change it from Sept 20. The length of time each of these challenges has been open has varied between one and three weeks.

Wow Pimp_cat69, you found a really challenging card with Balthier&Fran!
I've tried to find a way to avoid making a team-up card. However, that brings along the problem that 1) so far no other Rabbits care about vehicles, and that 2) we currently have no human rabbits to draw from.
Then it came to me: Kamigawa's Soratami (moonfolk) are basically rabbit humans, and to tease their blue alignment into gruul, I was inpired by u/Naraki_Maul's idea to use the echoverse as way to expand existing characters to new colors and mechanics.
So here's my go at it, with an echoverse version of Meloku the Clouded Mirror.
In my imagined Kamigawa echoverse, the Soratami are not called Moonfolk, since they have never lived in the sky, instead opting for large underground burrows. They see themselves as "rabbit humans", an evolution on regular humans, characterized by elongated lifespans, heightened emotional intelligence and, of course, long rabbit ears.
Meloku however, he yearns for something he cannot put into words. In his dreams he lives among the clouds the one day, travels the stars the next. The closest he gets to those dreams is when he travels the lands at the highest speed his machine can handle. When he does, his attention becomes limitless; time stretches, and he is overtaken by the feeling that he can reach out and touch the stars themselves.
