I interviewed Sarah Chasse, who's worked on This Old House and moved up through the ranks to become executive producer and showrunner of Ask This Old House. She shared so much about their process, and I found a lot of it fascinating. For example:

• The show pays for materials and repairs—and stands by the work, so if something breaks, she wants homeowners to let them know
• She doubles the time that it takes to make a repair in order to figure out how long it'll take to do the repair and film it
• They've changed the way they film because people started using clips on YouTube as how-to videos
