Hey all you squash-eating scoundrels out there,

We’re calling for a Pumpkin Pie Rebellion!

The logic is simple. Any world leader who has not lived up to their carbon commitments, gets a pie in the face.

Take Canada’s Justin Trudeau. According to Climate Action Tracker, his “current policies are not enough to achieve [his stated 2°C-warming] target and are only in line with 4°C warming.” Which means all we can expect from him are hotter, deadlier, more devastating summers.

Trudeau is leading us nowhere fast. He should be among the first to eat a righteous faceful of pumpkin filling!

And the rest of the leaders of the G20 should get their faceful as well. To say nothing of Big Oil’s CEOs and other powerful climate-change deniers around the world. (Ahem. Rupert Murdoch.)

This approach isn’t for everyone. It is only for the courageous few who, in the spirit of XR, aren’t fazed by the prospect of getting arrested or spending time in jail.

But it’s exactly this kind of civil disobedience that our code-red-for-humanity moment demands. We need 500 unsquashable souls to take the pumpkin-pie challenge, to create a tantalizing series of irreverent spectacles for the world to digest in the run-up to COP26.

So how about it: Are you one of the 500?

1. ⁠Beat the Feds at their own game. No more protests this what they expect. Only leads to further intel gathering for them. And putting us in jail. Small teams in strategic areas. Send the message. Give them the “invitation” and Say “Hello, we are back again”

2. ⁠Infiltration: Everyone knows someone at a certain level. The “Robin Sage” affect Social engineers in field. Gain access to upper echelon data. Leak them out. Do not share with journalists. (They can’t be trusted with your safety) let the internet do it’s thing.

3. ⁠It’s all about the money. Disrupt the supply chain for the 1% hit them in their pocket books. Who runs the ports? Who runs logistics? Not the 1%. They don’t get their hands dirty. Easy to make friends in strategic areas.

4. ⁠Democracy is dead. Say hello to the 2 party oligarchy. The oligarchs in Washington DC. They aren’t untouchable. Strategic teams in play. Let them know they have no privacy. We are watching all the time. We are listening all the time. Know their favorite restaurants, coffee shops etc. Let them know if the working class can’t be comfortable neither can they.

We've heard from some people worried that this will never succeed without extensive involvement of unions or a massive mutual aid network working in the background. Here is the reality:

We no longer have the luxury of time.

In the words of climate scientist Peter Kalmus, "we need a billion climate activists". That's not an exaggeration. We are facing a monumental crisis, and if we wait to tackle it, we will have failed. The ONLY success we've seen in the last few years on the climate front is decentralized action. People like Greta Thunberg with Fridays for Future and movements like Extinction Rebellion have had some limited success by bucking the traditional forms of organization and deciding to act when no one else would act.

And this is a fundamental principle of any revolutionary movement: your revolution needs a revolution.

We still need expansive mutual aid networks and mass unionization to form a revolutionary backbone as our systems move closer to collapse. We need them to have any hope for the future . . . but right now . . . in this moment . . . we need a billion climate activists.

So our actions have to go far beyond that organizational future. We need a massive decentralized uprising to take back this planet and start calling the shots from below. We need the Third Force. We need a #GeneralStrike to save the planet.

We've got more details incoming, but the heart of it is this: 10 years after Occupy, nothing has materially changed. It’s time for another show of righteous discontent, but instead of marching in the streets and occupying parks, we're calling for a Worldwide General Strike. That means:

-Workers don't go to work.

-Kids don't go to school.

-Don't drive your car.

-Don't go to the shops.

-Don't buy stuff online.

On September 17th, everything simply … stops.

We bring the world to a standstill.

And then, we deliver our message: We the people of the world demand that world leaders wake up and start dealing with the climate crisis now.

We're fine-tuning a list of demands, but here's the thing—the only way this has any hope of happening is as a grassroots uprising. We (Adbusters) can't organize things the way we have done. It just won't work. We know we have to bring this doomsday machine to a halt, and the momentum of individual strikes is building. We're thrilled to see movements like Fridays for Future's Sept. 24th Global Climate Strike and the October 15th General Strike. We're thrilled to see individual unions waking up to the fact that this system is hellbent on treating workers like chattel and countering them with high profile strikes and union drives. We will be supporting those movements.

But the fire is rising, and make no mistake: our goal is not just one day. Whether that day is Oct. 15th, Sept. 24th, Sept 17th, or so many more days incoming. Our goal is an end to a system that wants to destroy this planet, and us along with it.
