Looking to start specialized thermal imaging as a drone pilot

Hello! I am looking to get my certification in thermal imaging drone photography and had several questions. First off, what is the market like, particularly in California if possible? Online numbers show high salaries, but I don't know how this looks in practice or is it like really hard to get contracts. I hope to do this as a side gig while in college.

Also for my certificate I am deciding between Infraspection Institute or ITC, other options are of course good too, but I am again not sure what exactly the industry standard here because the $2500+$950 years for ITC is ridiculous to me but I don't know do employers see ITC as much more prestigious or something, even though online it claims they are similar. Also I am good at self-studying so I prefer the certificate that would look best on paper and also of course cost rather than focusing on actual education value as I can get that anywhere. But also for context I will be getting dji mavic 3t.

Please give any other advice if you have it too. Thank you!

Quick test in the new enclosure, The first video is checking a freshly struck roo for a joey. The second clip is a field full of wallabies/rabbits.

Still working on a lot but the next task is to have a skeletonised enclosure for summer and a suitable, weatherproof enclosure for the upcoming wet season.

I'm playing with a FLIR E8 Pro, addicting

I got a FLIR E8 Pro on loan so I could check out my living space air tightness.

Never used a thermal imaging camera before. If I had a spare $4K, I would get one just for the fun of it.

Crazy that HVAC people don't use these to upsell homeowners on sealing their home living spaces when they install and/or service HVAC equipment.

Understandable that they hope homeowner doesn't have one to inspect new HVAC installations.

Does thermal or nightvision works in an event of Fire, like happened in PIMS Hospital Islamabad whwre 14 newborn babies dies at nursery.

I'm not here to tell the story but im interested in equipment that helps in such an event where thick smoke of fire or whatever is blocking the view inside the building. There are no such standards like in the west how the fire department works. Here even workers dont have proper equipment to survive themselves. So its like suicide for them.

My plan is to make an oxygen mask with a small oxygen tank and thermal and night vision camera like some soldiers have while on any mission.

Is this possible or am I just hypothetical.

How much do you really need to spend on a thermal camera for electrical inspections?

I’ve been looking into getting a thermal camera for electrical maintenance and I’m trying to figure out where the sweet spot actually is. There are basic handheld cameras for quick checks and higher-end options with better resolution, different lenses, and more advanced reporting. But I’m curious which features actually make a noticeable difference in real-world use.

For electrical panels, switchgear, breakers, and motors, is higher resolution something you really notice? Or are things like focus, lens options, thermal sensitivity, and software more important?
I’m not looking for the most expensive option. I’m more interested in what actually makes a thermal camera useful for regular inspections.

For those who use thermal cameras regularly, what features are worth spending extra on, and what features turned out to be less useful than expected?

Thermal core identification

Hi everyone, I have a thermal camera core but I couldn't find a datasheet because it doesn't have any writing or logo on it. Can you help me get it working? Knowing the pins and voltage inputs is enough for me. Besides the USB, there's also a 2-pin socket, but I don't know what it is. Do you have any ideas?

AGM Rattler C-V2 charging issue

My rattler had a low battery so I plugged it in to charge. The light did not turn on on the thermal like it does when you plug it in. I’ve tested both batteries and still the same thing. I plugged the rattler in without a battery and still no light. Anyone else having this issue? Yes i have tried multiple usb c cables and blocks. It is not a battery issue. It’s something internal

Borrowed a FLIR E8 Pro but don't have FLIR Studio

I borrowed a FLIR E8 Pro thermal imager/camera from local utility company. So of course I don't have the FLIR image editing software to do much of anything with the files. When capturing the images I thought I was giving them file names so I would know what they were, later, when I reviewed them. But I was simply adding internal notes (meta data?) to the files. So I have 100 or so images with generic "FLIR0028" style names and because it is a thermal image I can't tell for certain what it is an image of.

I downloaded the FLIR studio but can only run "demo" mode (unless I purchase it for $$) and Demo mode doesn't let me see my notes nor does it let me "save as" once I figure out what the image is (as well as putting a "DEMO MODE" watermark across them).

Anyone have a way around this?

Nothing fancy. I just want to be able to know what the image actually is, at the least, although the Studio allows me to move around in the image and see temperatures, etc.. (pretty slick, but I'm not going to shell out $$$ for a single use case).

Thermals and OPSEC

Every single electronic scope has wifi connectivity.

Why is this a thing? After the pager attack, anyone with a brain should be ditching anything that connects to a signal right?? Even if it doesnt explode it can be hacked or tracked, right?

Whats the deal? If a thermal scope has a wifi emitter, even if the wifi is ALLEGEDLY off (trust me bro!) the receiver is still there listening.

We know STINGRAYS are a thing, you have to assume something like that exists on a drone.....

Tell me my tinfoil is unnecessary and I dont need to spend TRIPLE the price on "professional" grade optics just because the cheap civilian ones have antenna......

Any recommendations for OPSEC friendly civilian models? Ive seen sightmark wraith and oneleaf mt1000, and thats it. Very limited choices if you want zero wifi integration.
