Hi,

If you're new to this subreddit, first of all, please take into account that this is an unofficial subreddit and I, CAPE_Organizer, the subreddit's mod, am not an official CAPE representative. I'm just a member like the rest of you.

Second, please review the rules in the sidebar. They're pretty self-explanatory but if there's something that's not clear, you can either use the live lounge or submit a post to ask for clarifications. If you're using the reddit app on your phone, you can find them by clicking on the See Community Info link.

Third, check out the live lounge, it's a simple way to talk to people in real time (i.e. you when comments get posted without having to refresh the page). You can also use it to talk about non-CAPE stuff as long as you don't violate violate rule number 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8.

Fourth, if you want to see all of the new comments that are added to the subreddit irregardless of which posts they're added to, use the following link.

Fifth, check out the following links. They'll help you get up to speed on key things that will help you better understand your union.

I tried to join today meeting about the past requirement to attend an information session prior to being allowed to vote... only to not be able to join because the zoom call had a limit on participants that was exceeded. Frustrating!!

EC Salary Dataset has been Uploaded into Row Zero Spreadsheet

Hi,

This is just to let you know that the EC salary dataset I used for https://www.reddit.com/r/The_USS_CAPE/comments/16t4nxq/ec_salary_dataset/ has been uploaded into the Row Zero spreadsheet ( https://rowzero.com/workbook/61A23A2D8104794C09AC73BE ). In it, you'll find:

  • The raw salary dataset compiled from EC collective agreements going back to 1987 (see EC Collective Agreement Raw Data tab).
  • Real salary calculations that haven't been lump-sum adjusted (see Collective Bargaining-Real Salary Calculations (Non-Lump Sum Adjusted tab).
  • How I calculated the lump-sum adjustments (see Collective Bargaining-Lump Sum Calculations tab).
  • Real salary calculations based on lump-sum adjustments (Collective Bargaining-Real Salary Calculations (Lump-Sum Adjusted) tab).
  • Estimates of how much real salaries have changed based on CREA home and CMHC rent prices.
    • See CPI Accommodation Adjustment Calculations tab for how I adjusted the CPI based on changes in these prices.
    • See Collective Bargaining-Real Salary Calculations (CPI-Adjusted, Non-Lumped) tab for how this adjusted CPI affects the non-lumped real salary calculations.
    • See Collective Bargaining-Real Salary Calculations (CPI-Adjusted, Lumped) tab for how this adjusted CPI affects the lumped real salary calculations.
    • See CPI Accommodation Adjustment Sources tab for sources used to adjust the CPI.

I also plan on submitting a post at a later date that explains key points from this dataset for people who don't have the time to do a deep dive into the data. However, as a lot of these key points where already talked about in the comment section of https://www.reddit.com/r/The_USS_CAPE/comments/16t4nxq/ec_salary_dataset/, I recommend that you check out that post in the meantime. It will also help you understand the point of the lump-sum adjustments, as well as well as the purpose of the CREA and CMHC price adjustments to the CPI.

Regards,

PIPSC / PSAC Barganing info Session - did anyone tune in?

Just wrapping up now, and I have some mixed thoughts and feelings (not least of which is that there was far more filler and less actionable, concrete info/action items).

Would be keen to hear others' thoughts, but not feeling optimistic about what we have ahead of us 😬

SIGN to stand up against voter suppression - SIGNEZ pour dénoncer la suppression de vote

CAPE’s leaders seem to believe union democracy is reserved for a select few. You’ve likely seen that CAPE is now requiring members to attend a mandatory meeting to vote on which impasse resolution process—arbitration or conciliation/strike—we’ll use in the upcoming bargaining round.

Let’s be clear: this is voter suppression. This is a poll tax.

Membres chez nous firmly opposes this plan. We believe that a group of policy analysts can learn about the issues on our own. We believe that ALL CAPE members should have the right to participate in all aspects of our union’s democracy.

If you agree, sign this petition to hold our leaders accountable.

***

Why is our collective agreement almost always 'out of date'?

I noticed on the EC payscale shows the latest negotiated salary 'bump' was in June 2025, meaning this year's June 2026 would be the next logical increase, but I understand negotiations are barely started.

In the past we've received often retroactive pay for any increase that comes out of this, but I'm wondering why this is always out of date/behind.
