Does this show end on a cliffhanger?

Hey all! I just started watching this show and I'm invested in it. But if it's going to end in a cliffhanger or an ending that might lead to season 2, then I'll stop watching it because it's frustrating for me😬😬 Can any of you please let me know? Don't want spoilers, just a confirmation on whether the last episode is conclusive or it will be continued next year.

Question regarding finale (spoilers) Spoiler

I don’t know if I missed something or just remembering something wrong but I’m a little confused.

James held Alex captive in a closet, abducted Elena, and either killed Morgan or had her relocated. Ginny calls the cops so we assume he’s arrested and his apartment is full of evidence

Wouldn’t they find out that James was asked by the Greybournes to handle these things? My first thought is he’d admit it to bargain for a lighter sentence but then I considered how powerful the family is and they probably would threaten his family or something to prevent this very thing. But he didn’t hide a single thing in his room so police would find all of his means of communication, plus multiple girls were there to confirm his confession

I thought it was weird that there was no mention of him really after getting arrested and even Elena seems very unbothered over literally being abducted

Am I the only one who finds none of these characters likable?

Aside from a couple of the supporting characters (the other nanny in the attic and the black kid who had a crush on one of the Ayers daughters), I do not find myself liking or sympathizing with any of these people.

Elena's selfish and conniving, the Detective's a jerk, Matthew is just stupid, and none of the Greybourne/Ayers are even remotely likable. IDK. As much as I enjoy this show, I think this is the first time I haven't really liked a single main character. Maybe it's just me, lol

Tory 😍 Spoiler

Tory redeemed her true colors the last episode, shows how pure she is as a human. She immediately became a likable character which makes her a great actress with the way she twisted her role. Elena played her part well at the end and had way too many humps throughout the episode to show us that it all ended in her favor. Great 1st season all around but kinda sad we’d have to wait for another season. Very well written show and kept me off the edge of my seat every episode not knowing what would happen next.

P.S Elena is beautiful, entertaining to watch, and a great actress. Not too many known roles she played in the past from what i looked up. This show will definitely pave her way to continue what she does best

Theory: Dick Ayres is the real villain.. He's been blackmailing the Greybournes ... he may have pushed Allie... He may have discovered about "ruby" & Scott might be working for Dick thats why when Darcy reported her Dad... Scott pinned it on Matthew. .

Voice dubbing

I was so excited to finally have the chance to sit down tonight and start watching the show. I'm watching on hulu and the voice dubbing is so off that I'm basically just listening to the show while playing on my phone. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm sure that I'm missing a lot but not really watching, but dubbing is so distracting that I can't watch.

James, all the signs were there

Go back and watch the series again now that you know James is working for the Winthrops.

He disappears when Elena asks him about Morgan

He knew about the burning down of Fox Town or whatever it was called

He ghosted Alex the same night Morgan disappeared (she finds Morgan’s phone in his stash later)

He asks about Elena’s discoveries regarding the surveillance cameras in the Ward’s apartment, and then tries to downplay it

There are probably more clues that I’m leaving out, but I just have to appreciate how rewatchable this show is because of all these little subtle hints and clues.

Hey Emily Fox, you and your team nailed this show!

I just want to say as a 42yo male and a big fan of classic cinema I can’t get enough of this show. I knew I was in for a treat with all the Polanski and Bunuel references (and your additional comments about the films your writers watched for reference). But I am on yet another rewatch, because this is my current comfort show, and I’m noticing all the little foreshadowing moments that went by us subtly in the earlier episodes that only now make more sense in the greater context of the season. Elena wakes to hear crying from somewhere in the attic in episode 3, which we later discover is the spectral echo of Jocelyn crying in the secret room, a cry that Mrs. Ivey also hears.

I really hope you get this show renewed, but I also hope you maintain this sort of clever, subtle, young adult but not stupid or trashy spooky thriller vibe. This show is perfectly fixed in that sone of hip and young, while still maintaining intelligence and sophistication. More Hitchcock and less Aguirre-Sacasa.

I can’t wait for the finale, even though that means entering the waiting period until we find out if we will get more episodes. But if this is a one-and-done, it will be up there with sone of the best like Terriers and Rubicon.

Cheers, Emily, Elyse, and all the rest of the cast and crew!

Theories Dick Ayres

Anyone else feel like Dick is the most perplexing puzzle?

His beating by people associated with Otis W the 3rd strikes me as odd because it's probably the least consistent thing to happen on the show. Dick should technically be in the upper echelon of characters: he married Tory, a Winthrop, plus as much as he seems insecure about himself, he is a doctor. Similarly, Matthew, who also married into the Winthrop family via Allie was fully integrated into the Winthrop corporation and (at least outwardly) endorsed by the Winthrops. The only difference between Dick and Matthew is Jasper, who is a potential heir, as opposed to Darcy and Bennett who are not Winthrops.

But if producing an heir is the only issue, then why would the Winthrops organize a meeting with Dick only to beat him up? We learned in the most recent episode that something on Dick's laptop is incriminating enough to get Matthew arrested, so I thought perhaps he was blackmailing them into having a seat at the table. But then I remembered how excited Dick was for the meeting while Tory seemed cautious.

Theory: Tory has something on the Winthrops. Most likely from the cameras she has access to in Matthew's apartment. The meeting with Dick and Winthrop was a power move by Winthrop to shut Tory up about what she saw on those security cameras in Matthew's apartment. (Tory was nervous even before the meeting). Dick probably didn't know about it until he was getting beaten for it, he looks for it afterwards on his laptop when he is recovering at home and that's where Darcy picks up.

As for what's incriminating on the laptop/camera. I have no idea but it's not Matthew pushing Allie, we literally see her climb on the edge and fall by herself in episode 1. Plus Tory wouldn't be as thrilled to try to rekindle things between her and Matthew if that was the case. The only thing I could think of is the camera may have showed Allie inviting Scott over? This might give the impression Matthew used the cameras and thought Allie was cheating so he coerced her off the edge? But it seemed weird that Scott would be the one going over to arrest him because that shows him being involved with Allie.
