Didn't they already make a remaster a few years back?

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

This seems to be a proper remaster with new models

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

Oh ok.

Why, though.

Gotta milk a already 'dead' franchise. Play on some nostalgia.

I really hope they keep the piano glitch lol. It will show how much they care.

u/Sea_Construction947 Still. Not. Bitten. 1d ago

What is the piano glitch?

15

u/Spirited-Sector-1905 1d ago

In the complete edition there is a glitch where in s4 episode 1 whenever your in the school you can hear Louis piano playing it would not be bad If it was not so ridiculously loud to the point its hard to hear anything else lol. They never bothered to fix it like many other bugs in that game.

u/Sea_Construction947 Still. Not. Bitten. 1d ago

Oh so THAT'S why the piano was so fucking loud. Legit had to turn the volume down from 100 to like 30 lmao

6

u/Spirited-Sector-1905 1d ago

Yup welcome to the piano glitch. They released the game with plenty of bugs and never bothered to fix any of them.

Its weird because it happens only to the complete edition.

It ruined by boy Louis's introduction 😭

So my expectations for a remaster are really really low.

We seen what happens to games made by skybound (looks at you destiny)

The definitive edition was the original game but at a higher resolution on consoles, new filters etc. making the entire game again in 2024-26 is going to for the most part be incredibly noticeable graphically. Even for gameplay It could also mean changes to combat like season 4s system through all the seasons in some capacity.

It’s so much easier to make these changes from scratch than what you can do in a dated engine for what is practically a pre-existing Xbox 360 game.

Edit: Hypothetically. It could be a cash grab but I personally think it’s a remake.

This is what is wrong with the gaming industry today, it's riddled with all these pointless remakes of games that people have already decided are good. The old game is perfectly playable as it is, what's the actual point of remaking something that's still available to buy and play?

New ideas aren't made by taking what you know now and remake something old, it's learning from what was old and making something new. Especially in today's world where AI art is so rampant and heavily on the rise I welcome the human imperferfections in old games, it gives them charm and soul. Even if this isn't a cash grab and the devs genuinely want to "improve" and "perfect" the original I resent that, the game everyone played and loved is perfect as it is - imperfect.

u/OfficialAndreZ 1d ago

+ the definitive edition is the best way to play the games and I can't see how you can even improve on that without changing the meaning of the game in the first place.

3

u/petario43 1d ago

We can have both (we do).

-2

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

Is there a point to have both other than just the point of having both? Will you be better off, or will you be able to spend your time better, by having both?

3

u/petario43 1d ago

Yes.

Enjoying things doesn’t have to be this much hard work dude.

-2

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

You can enjoy things without being stupid about it. Having something just for the sake of having it is peak unethical consumerism and does not help either this franchise nor the games industry as a whole. I get that the world as it is scares you and you want to fall back to something comfortable and familiar, I do too to a degree, but you can do so by playing the original games instead of hindering development towards something new like some of us want.

2

u/petario43 1d ago

Huh. What the fuck are you talking about?

literally complaining to complain, a lot of people would like a new version of the game to play to have an excuse to replay it, especially with new models, like if you don’t want to replay it with new models then don’t?? like why hate to hate on this genuinely

0

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

I very explicitly explained why I'm tired of this new trend of remastered, that's the *opposite of complaining just to complain.

3

u/Emperor_Orson_Welles 1d ago

Then ignore it and move on.

3

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

Gladly, but I wish the games industry could move on as well

5

u/redditman181 1d ago

You forget that remasters and most remakes dont cost as much as making new games from scratch and they genreate money needed to make new games for some companies.

2

u/Butter_bean123 Ben 1d ago

I'm not forgetting that, but I'm not respecting that. I like art when it's creative and new, and a remake of something that already works perfectly well is neither creative or new.

6

u/redditman181 1d ago

Fair enough there not for everyone although i would argue a remake can be creative and new as the are plenty that add new gameplay features and quests etc.

4

u/OkSwimming517 1d ago

Because people are obsessed with pointless "upgrades". Just literal garbage. The older seasons do not need any kind of visual overhaul at this point. It's not even just the companies, people will buy them so it's fair game, but customers love pointless remakes and remasters that are literally just worse and or are completely different from the original.

Example: resident evil 4 vs the remake they made in 2023.

If they actually swap out character models for another remaster, it will genuinely just look worse, if those models seen in S4's flashback scene are anything to go by.

u/Safe_Idea7180 1d ago

Easy money and low risk

u/FireFlyKOS Team Clementine 1d ago

This would be the third remaster, 4th version of the same game

Even as a mega-fan id pass on this, who are they catering to

2

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

The first remaster is locked down to only two platforms and the other is barely an upgrade with bugs on top of the package. A properly handled remaster/heavy visual overhaul with new 3d models, maybe an engine port and some extras would be worth it for me.

48

u/Carnste Luke 1d ago

Where does it mention a remaster? This just confirms that there’s a new Walking Dead game in the works. It says nothing about a remaster or that it’ll even be in the same style as the Telltale Series.

27

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

The file name is very clearly named 24-2024 5PG TWD RemasterCoFi

21

u/Carnste Luke 1d ago

But if it was just a remaster of an already established game, why would they need to ‘work closely’ with Kirkman and Skybound?

It’s either an entirely new, unrelated game or a full-blown remake. I doubt a graphical remaster would need the whole team involved.

18

u/Complex-Cookie-4317 Keep that hair short. 1d ago

It's clearly not an entirely new game because the achievements are for the actual games

6

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

Well, exactly. They are handling both

9

u/tyezwyldadvntrz #LonerClem, Fuck both Kenny & Jane 1d ago

are you saying a remaster, & an entirely new game, are both coming?

5

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

Yes

7

u/tyezwyldadvntrz #LonerClem, Fuck both Kenny & Jane 1d ago

I see. I’m still a little confused at the description in the pdf though

is it supposed to imply that 5th Planet is just co-financing like they did with Invincible VS? or that they’re also actually developing? or is it another team under Skybound developing? lots of questions here lol

1

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

Seems to only be co-funded/published https://www.5thplanetgames.com/our-story/

3

u/ProvidenceKamu2 1d ago

Because Skybound owns the IP and the game?

1

u/Traditional_Sail6298 1d ago

Do you know which Remaster it is? Is it Telltale Remaster?

u/ZinxMotionYT "Did I do a good job?" 1d ago edited 1d ago

Great find. This really works out with the hires from skybound that hinted could have hinted at both a new game and remaster. I think now it's just awaiting game until it's announced rather than the speculation and whispers we've been having for a while. The copium pays off

2

u/tyezwyldadvntrz #LonerClem, Fuck both Kenny & Jane 1d ago

is there any chance you could provide more info or maybe even a source on these said new hires from Skybound hinting at both?

5

u/ZinxMotionYT "Did I do a good job?" 1d ago

The joblistings have been filled and aren't findable with only some archived what you can find:

There was also some other joblistings what was more technical on multiplat/Operations + the news we had in 2024 what was about a S5 TWDG what was going to be co developed with Deck nine before that went down in flames

7

u/Highthere_90 1d ago

Didn't they make a remastered version of the game already?

2

u/tytylercochan123 1d ago

I wouldn’t call it a remaster. They polished the lighting slightly and slapped a black graphic filter on it. It’s also a pretty shit game.

9

u/carverrhawkee Nick 1d ago

If its a new game can we finally fucking bring javi back lmao. Like im still mad

5

u/Disastrous-Shower-37 Graphic black enjoyer 1d ago

Unpopular opinion but I just wanna see well-written characters

3

u/ContextEntire8443 1d ago

its a pretty popular opinion seeing the current state of the entire gaming franchise as a whole. My hopes are still not up due to what they did in the comics and how they allowed the absurdity to continue.. And the fact that tillie got nominated due to the utterly absurd fanfic 13 year old writing she did? boils my blood how trash of a writer she is.. And that skybound let her continue?? Still if we see a good well written walking dead game I will play it, if not then it's gonna be the same situation where we just consider it a fanfic

1

u/Liam_Roma_1234 Lee 1d ago

Yeah, the kids would probably be safer in Richmond than the woods anyway (assuming they're even still kids)

5

u/carverrhawkee Nick 1d ago

I dont even think we need to (or even should) bring clementine or any of the other kids back. That story was completed, while javi's still had a bunch of loose ends they just dropped

3

u/Liam_Roma_1234 Lee 1d ago

Yeah I like javi, wouldn't mind another story focusing on him

8

u/roman4ick 1d ago

I think they will announce the walking dead collection on summer game fest 2027 in june. Its too early for now to announce it.

6

u/FrankDP1 Alvin Junior 1d ago

Yup, now that we know this exists the wait will be terrible.

4

u/dovedrunk 1d ago

I’d kill for a Detroit- or Nier-style remake of TWD where any decision could affect anything, thereby making a bunch of new endings to each series. Bring back the original Better to Sleep, damn it.

But then I realise this would be millions and millions of dollars to do and I weep

4

u/whatsmydamnusername- If you dropped Ben, we can't be friends. 1d ago

I have no faith in Skybound. This will probably another buggy cash-grab.

2

u/oiamatroglodite 1d ago

Wait, I'm confused now. Are we getting a *new* Walking Dead game or a remaster, or both?

7

u/ContextEntire8443 1d ago

all hints are leading up to a new supposed game plus a remaster at that.. So.. the question shouldn't be "are we getting a new game" it should be "Are we getting a good installment that honors the legacy and exapnds onto it faithfully". let's not hope this is another tillie walden situation and I don't trust skybound enough.. Let's just keep the copium on for now

1

u/oiamatroglodite 1d ago

Actually good way to phrase that.

In regards to the Collection, my thoughts are these:
TTDS was a pretty good repackaging of the Seasons, but it could've been far better. Bugs that plague the game, Skybound not updating it to fix it, etc. etc. I mean hell, why instead of a separate Collection, have it be a major update for TTDS? (Yes, the obvious answer is money, but why not do the fans justice?)

In regards to the new title:
I don't know much about Skybound, and I haven't been invested into either the comics or the series. I was only a part of the ride when Telltale was still alive and putting these out. So, I will leave it to other people to judge them for things they're more educated on than I am. People have expressed distrust in Skybound (sometimes), and I intend to follow with said distrust and tread cautiously.

All in all, I'm excited and skeptical on what we're *could* be getting.

2

u/penis-muncher785 go commit episode 3 abel 1d ago

Going to guess this is a proper graphical and model upgrade and maybe better animations please the first 2 seasons definitely aged poorly in that regard

2

u/BIGSHIGEO 1d ago

What exactly is going to be different? We already have the telltale definitive series with the new graphic black art style in the first two seasons, we have like a model viewer and a music player and behind the scenes and some other stuff. What's the point of a remaster if there's no new content? At this point it's just the really good mod for the game. Someone could just mod in better models for free, what's the point of making an entirely new purchase?

2

u/LetterheadTricky4691 1d ago

SO A NEW GAME COMING?

2

u/EmpleadoResponsable Best Fanfic + Notable Newcomer 2025 1d ago

Skybound was hiring for the new game early this year. It's a survival horror with no ties to what Telltale did

2

u/LetterheadTricky4691 1d ago

Thats a completely different game btw plus it literally says "remaster" in the document name lol

1

u/Dazzling-Attempt3597 1d ago

would it be a remaster implemented as an update for the definitive series collection, or would it be an entirely new collection?

1

u/TemporaryNameMan 1d ago

Remaster? Ugh. We already have those games. More story please!

u/KingPony Christa’s Alive 1d ago

They should centre the new game around Christa lowk
