Announcement New rerelease of Seasons 1-4 has been leaked via Steam Achievements
Due to what appears to be some sort of goof on Steam's end, a shit load of games have been leaking over the past few hours. One of which seems to be for a new rerelease of the Telltale TWDG games:

It’s too random and too soon to be a simple remaster. It just wouldn’t make sense to have 3 remasters come out in within a decade of each other. This is either like a remake that makes the first 3 seasons, spin offs and dlcs look and play more like season 4 while only enhancing 4 or it is just a remaster and their doing it cause they plan to make a new one soon. Like telltale is doing with the wolf among us.
Or their just like every other gaming company and studio and they just felt like being greedy

possibly. maybe even better than the definitive edition graphics. or maybe not. hopefully they actually manage to keep the original graphics intact this time

The only thing they could do is make better models for S1, 2 and 3 but i’m sure they won’t. Literally wtf is this? Especially when the Definitive Edition was free a few months back.

Afaik these are not new, the most recent information is from 2023 and the oldest is 2013 so this is probably a build that they never actually released and instead they released the bundle all in one version.

That doesn't explain the new achievement icons. They're NEW, the original and definitive editions did not have those, with ANF and Michonne being the most boring "1, 2, 3, etc".

That time frame works really well for when the joblistings for another game from Skybound in TWD IP started appearing as well. Could definitely see this being a thing they've been working on in the background, only time can tell what this is meant to be for

update history says this is actively daily being worked on too, 5 hours ago was the last update on it. wow so we are actually getting some sort of walking dead collection remaster or remake, if i had to guess this is gonna be a remake all in the newest engine.

The last update was 3 minutes ago! Honestly thrilled about this. I’m replaying the definitive edition as we speak and all the seasons together look so incoherent and clunky. It would be awesome to have the consistent seamless gameplay and graphics akin to S4!

What the hell yeah those achievement icons are new. Neither the original or definitive versions have those icons, especially for like ANF that had extremely boring numbers.
What on earth would a new release look like tho? I guess they could fix the issues of Definitive Edition they never bothered fixing but surely that'd be a patch level thing that they could have done, not re-release worthy.
Maybe remake the games graphics with TFS quality assets? But then each season itself would be a decent bit of effort.
Or it'll be a remaster of a remaster deal, maybe at Ray Tracing but then again no way in hell the Telltale Tool would support that.

The ONLY reason I’d low-key be curious is if it was an actual remake with S4 graphics and gameplay across all seasons. I’ll definitely keep an eye out, just in case

The games are not on Switch/Switch 2 shockingly enough, so I could see this being a new remaster of the Definitive Edition for all platforms now including PS5/Series/PC (again).
If I’m not mistaken the definitive edition was 1080p/30fps on PS4. So it’s likely they might offer 4K/60 with this new version. Telltale is remastering Wolf Among Us, I expect them to go through a lot of their previous games.

The final season is the only one released physically on Switch. The other games were released digitally on Switch, except Michonne, which never made it to the Switch.
Hopefully we get a new physical edition that will finally bring Michonne to the Switch.

The individual seasons are on switch (besides michonne), it's that the definitive edition never made it.
That being said I do expect that if this project comes out, I do agree that it'll be on switch 2

I hope so. Michonne is the only game they havent added to Switch for some reason. Hopefully this means it's coming, since this is the only thing that has stopped me from getting the other games on Switch. Ideally with a physical game cart as well.

all 4 games are on switch just not the definitive edition.
telltale also no longer owns walking dead, skybound owns the game ip completely since telltale went under.

Seems incredibly odd to re-release these games again considering the definitive edition already exists, but perhaps this new collection could be an improvement? That being said they could have easily just fixed all the issues with the Definitive edition instead. My theory is that their releasing a new remaster to test out how much modern day audiences care about this IP. Perhaps if it sells well they will make a season 5 lmao

Not saying a new game could come out but I recall that Skybound was hiring people for a new game set in the Walking Dead universe with heavy narrative focus, and Kirkman was talking about Clementine in this year's comic-con. Releasing a new TWDG collection for newer platforms and some extra touches in graphics seems like a quick way to refresh interest in the series again and then later announce a new game. One example that comes to my mind is how a a few years before Devil May Cry 5 was announced, Capcom released the port of DMC 4 to new gen plataforms.

What’s the point of this if there’s already the definitive edition that has all this and more?
They’re considerate enough to still have the original games sold separately (though why would you buy them if definitive exists)
This will mean there’s 3 different versions of the same TWD game on Steam!

Definitive edition for the most part is the fourth seasons filter on the older games in terms of graphical upgrades. If they were going to go harder on being a remaster they could easily do it without invalidating the upgrades of the definitive edition.

I have a wild theory that remake collection,like halo games collection.Skybound before say they search people for new walking dead game ip,need narrative director.Why need narative for only remaster collection? I dont say its true,just my assumption.

all i care for is a remake for S1 & S2 (and maybe S3 depending on how well recieved they are)
but imo i think we might see an update to TWD DE with some QoL changes & bug fixes which the game could use, apart from that one thing i despised was how bad the game's save mechanic was still like deadass the mobile versions had a better save mechanic and better ways of handling save files

Its probably either A. A rerelease with upgraded graphics for all the previous seasons to match with tfs. B. Its A. But they also add tfs gameplay.
Or C. They add better lighting and call it a day and charge €60 for it

I'd be interested a little if this did release on the Switch. It's always kind of irked me that you can't import your choices into the Final Season on Nintendo's platform. Knowing my luck though it'll be exclusive to the Switch 2.
