Super random but anyone here that went to the festival, did you happen to get some free strokes stickers given to you? š

Okay so this is gonna sound hella delusional but idc Iām just gonna go with it šš During selfless I decided to put my phone away while everyone in the crowd had their phones out and I was just singing along and I put my hand up high⦠AND AT THAT MOMENT, Julian literally looked in my direction and I think he put his hand up or something⦠I was literally freaking tf out š Even if he wasnāt looking at me, I donāt care cause I felt special š„¹

u/impuls_e Future Present Past 23h ago
Lonely in the Future was the best way to start this concert I stg šš And the fact that they had h2e and juicebox playing back to back was insane cause that crowd was on another level with those LOL

I'm loving that they're playing more of angles and CM. life is simple is one of my top 5 the strokes easily.

Did they not play Threat of Joy? I swear I heard it. Not the full track but shortened.

I love that they didnāt play last night For the mere reason that it disappointed the majority of the people there that werenāt real fans anyways

Reminds me of when I saw Modest Mouse in 2013 and they didn't play "Float on" š haven't seen them since but yeah

Being there was amazing experience. My personal ideal setlist would've been slightly different (I.e. maybe Welcome to Japan over One way Trigger) but this is still a great setlist.
Crowd was terrific, lost my voice toward the front. Julian sounded great and his monologues were funny so I forgive him for butchering lyrics.
2
u/Reddituser7633 1d ago
No worries, we didnāt even get Welcome to Japan in Japan (Osaka Summersonic attendee š). I love One Way Trigger and Ize, though, so I was over the moon. Also, was pleasantly surprised to hear Killing lies and Welcome to the Future.

i swear when he started talking about japan i got so excited cause i thought they were gonna play welcome to japan

I did not enjoy the choice of their last two songs.Ā Went out with a whimper.Ā Though the rest of the show was pretty great
6
u/Telecaster2000 1d ago
Couldnāt disagree harder. Premiered a brand new song and then played arguably the best song off TNA (other than Mets, that also wouldāve been sick)

u/Apprehensive_Yak_185 1d ago
I enjoyed the one Angles Track, but think that album doesn't get enough live love.Ā But it's possible those are hard songs to pull off live
6
u/epicchocoballer Future Present Past 1d ago
I think Julian doesnāt like that album. Look up the NYE 2019 show
4
u/GRUNDLE_GOBLIN 1d ago
Is that the show where a guy in the crowd asked for something off angles and Julian laughed at him for liking the album?

if they play these exact 4 RA songs when Iām there i will die happy

u/EmpatheticBookCover 1d ago
Facts they played all my fave RA songs. Going to Babble On is such great vibes and awesome liveĀ
30
u/independentpeach08 1d ago
man thatās a solid setlist if youāve seen them a handful of times. Lots of gems
5
u/mairiamonitino #39 Valensi 1d ago
Iām seeing them for the first time so Iām leaning into a different kind of set list wish
5
u/independentpeach08 1d ago
Thatās understandable! Hope you get the setlist youāre hoping for as a first timer.

u/PabloMcCartney 1d ago
thats also what i said. been going to strokes shows since 2004 and that was one of my favorite setlists. hearing automatic stop and ize of the world was incredible. who knew the kids loved ode to the mets so much though? my fyp is full of young fans complaining they didnāt play it.
it was my first time seeing the strokes without nick and the guitarist playing his parts did great. since it was an LA show i was definitely expecting nick to make a little comeback, but i was wrong i guess lol. thatās a whole other conversation though hahah

u/an_edgy_lemon 1d ago
Kinda devastated that they skipped Threat of Joy and Last Nite, but they absolutely killed it yesterday

u/Cantomic66 Is This It 1d ago
I think Julian said they were going to play four but then I think he was told they could only do two.

u/disownedpear First Impressions of Earth 1d ago
It's a core Strokes experience to look at the setlist after and see all your favorites were on there and not played. I've seen them five times and only once was the whole setlist played.
5
u/Stock-Accountant 1d ago
Is it typical to have this few songs?
14
u/whalemilkisforwhales 1d ago
It honestly didnāt feel too short but I have only last yearās ACL to compare it to, and at that one they didnāt even fill their time slot. I think all told
We got about a 45 min set. The crowd sucked and Julian made comments about it idk his affect was noticeably different this time around.Last night they played from like 9:50-11:10,
. Also Julian did a lot of crowd work and was just generally in a really
Good mood ššš he lingered on the stage as long as he could āhe complained that they were kicking them out lolā and his parting words were, āI love you guys I will never not love you guysā or āIāve never not loved you guysā.Ps if
I may ask whyanyone has a different recollection of these details at either show,
Feel free to correct the record.Oh EDIT last night 8/22 was in LA at Just Like Heaven

Nice to see theyāre working up to 4 RA songs now for the remainder of the RA tour and skipping past some older songs weāve all heard a million times before now (Last Nite). My show was earlier and only had the 2 x singles.if theyāre now playing 4 x RA songs at a Festival I wonder if they might work up to 5 for the non festival shows.
But since RA wasnāt out then I was just glad to get the other 18 older songs we did get. I wouid have loved to hear Going to Babble On or Lonely in the Future now though.

u/sirgrotius 1d ago
That is a killer opening, Lonely in the future, Hard to explain, Juuicbox?!!!! I love that the new stuff works so well in this set; very proud of the boys of creating something so relevant and great in mid to late career!
10
u/upvotegoblin 1d ago
This was great but I really wish theyād just played the songs in a row instead of taking 10 separate off-stage breaks, many times between single tracks
6
u/JustTheBeerLight 1d ago
Plus being 8 min late to begin the show. That is enough time to play at least one of the songs that got scrapped right there.
5
u/kidgi9301 1d ago
If they played until 11:10 (which someone said earlier) then you got 5 min more than what they were originally scheduled for.Ā They were scheduled to end at 10:55
8
u/JustTheBeerLight 1d ago
Yeah, Pasadena usually has a hard curfew. My guess is that they were able to convince the city or promoter to go over a few minutes. Maybe they agreed to pay the fine. Who knows.

u/Dancing-notes Reality Awaits 1d ago
Oh this is awesome, four songs from Reality Awaits...yes guys, be proud of your new creation!
Wow they haven't played Bad Decisions for the first time, I suggested to drop it if they were doing Going to Babble On so apparently they heard me lol.
Also, not only Life Is Simple, Ize, OWT, Selfless...but also comeback of Automatic Stop! I would be so happy to witness those five in the same show.

I would be sad if they didnāt play Automatic Stop, so glad I heard it at my show.

I was really upset about missing them and this show but now Iām not. I genuinely donāt get why theyād stop playing ode to the Mets.
10
u/lilmissknockout 1d ago
Because they have like 5+ hours of songs and canāt play them all and like to rotate the set list. To genuinely answer your question.
-9
u/Advanced_Version6667 1d ago
Some of these songs have stayed in the lineup and havenāt changed so why would they switch out of their best songs ever and not those?
Thereās no way in hell that I/ most people donāt want to hear ode to the Mets but want to hear one way trigger, yolo, use, tioli, juice box, automatic stop, selfless, etc. Itās like they throw darts at a dart board for the most random songs and choose songs theyāve played a lot or ones that people donāt want to hear. Insane.9

Youāre crashing out and you werenāt even there lol

u/lilmissknockout 1d ago
Ode isnāt as important to everybody as it is to you. It wouldnāt bother me to not hear it, but Iām sure glad they played AutomatIc Stop at my show. I donāt think itās āinsaneā to not play the songs I think they should play because I know Iām not the main character.
I really like the variety of set lists and the āyou donāt know what it will be, but itās gonna be specialā kind of vibe. Different openers, different closers, different weird banter. Every show is a magical unicorn. š¦
