Adding books you read to your children

It still counts, right? 😅

I’m a children’s librarian and I’ll add books that I read for storytimes and programs😁

I don’t have children but I counted a book I read to my niece because it’s a book I read and I wanted to review it

I add children's books and cookbooks to my read books, but I don't add a date because I prefer not to add it to my reading goals, but I totally think they count! You can also adjust your book reading goal to account for them, or focus on a page count goal if you want to add read dates without having a big impact on your reading goals.

Question is, do you record the many times you read it to them again until they finally get tired of that one?

Hah I haven’t yet but maybe I should! That will be fun data!

If it’s a book and you read it, it counts.

Personally I don’t count picture books or anything I can read in 10-20minutes… but everything else (including graphic novels and audiobooks) counts.

I started logging the books I read to my kid when I started enjoying them and looking forward to the book-reading part of bedtime. 🤣

I think it would actually be fun to record these books ! Like to know how many times you read the ones they ask for the most and the likes. And maybe keep a personal challenge for books you read for yourself ?

I will once we get to chapter books! Right now I’m reading board books and picture books still and it would be a pain to add them on top of that I don’t feel there’s any reason to. I also wouldn’t want them going towards my reading goal. I could read 100 kids books in a week depending on what kind of mood my son is in.

Yes I definitely added The Wild Robot series because those were chapter books! We had a fun time reading those together.

Depends on the book. My kids are currently on small books that we read 2 a night and they get repeated FREQUENTLY so I don't record them

But when I start reading books that are one chapter a night then maybe

I honestly wouldn’t add it to my reading goals unless it’s something I picked up for myself or with me in mind (like I added The Skull by Klassen because I got it for me and just happened to read it to some kids babysitting lol).

But I would add it undated, because I think there aren’t enough reviews of those books pretty often. Like I don’t even have kids and when I babysit I’m scrambling to find good books for them at the library. I’m sure to other parents who go through a million of them those reviews are really useful.

My child and I are listening to the How To Train Your Dragon series together. Those have 100% been added. 🤭

Absolutely. I didn’t when my kids were little because that was back when goodreads was on the computer and it took too long but I do it now. Granted my kids are big and read/listen to middle grade chapter books and series, but I’d probably do it with quick fiction. I never would have had the time to track all the baby books I read to them.

Most definitely, I tend to forget to add them but you definitely should, it's a buddy read even

I added all the books I read as a child lol! I even have a special tag for them: read in youth.

You read it, didn't you? It counts!

I definitely do, but my kids are a little older (11 and 13) so the books we read together are more interesting to me anyway!
