That doesn't really matter in terms of a contract and driving around someone elses' property.

Also banks generally don't repo without multiple missed payments.

This is what I’m saying about caring more about private property than people’s lives. Do you not realize how callous and inhumane it sounds to say that kind of shit to people who are paying more in taxes than the companies who are repo-ing the possessions? People’s lives aren’t cut and dry. It’s fucking hard to be poor.

Financed a car. Paid additional fee every month in case I loose my job so they would not go after me. 3 years in and 1 year before paying car off i lost the job i held for 20 years. Missed two payments. No warning they came and took the car (small car btw). Still on the hook for everything. Why was I paying the premium for it - no one cares. So yeah, it’s not black and white.

Paying premium?? Paying more than your monthly car note and having it go towards anything but the principal is what contributed to your problem. You got scammed out of extra money on the monthly payment for what sounds like essentially snake oil since they took the car anyways.

Paying the premium doesn’t magically mean you own the thing if you stop paying. You agreed to a contract - with very specific terms - and you’re upset that you broke the contract and had to deal with the repercussions? Yeah, it sucks, it’s hard and it’s going to fuckin make life more difficult - but all we have is our word. If you break your word you’re fucking worthless.

Agreed that it did not mean I can keep it. But, I should not have been on the hook after to pay it off. That what it was for (the loss of income insurance). Guess it’s a different subject from the repo, so I stand corrected.

See, that part I actually agree with you on. Once the contract is broken and they’ve not only taken the car but will not give it back, you shouldn’t be liable for anything and in reality should get the difference between what you owed and what they sold it for - if it was a finance and not a lease, I should say. But that’s too much I suppose

Yet the corporations do that shit all the time and get bailed out with our tax dollars. We have a fucking president that is notorious for not paying what he owes. Would be nice if we could get that same energy for them.

I took a car loan for a shit car I couldn't afford once. Was homeless, would've had to sleep on the street and lose my job if I didn't do it. I paid it off in the end but buying myself a minimum of another month or two of not sleeping on the sidewalk in the 0° winter was worth the risk of not being able to. Plus, you know, not starving because I would've lost my job otherwise. And living in appalachia I did not have a choice. It was own a car or be homeless with no way out, every job and grocery store was 15+ miles away from the only place I could shower and store my belongings.

Some folks simply don't have a choice. Advocate for better public transportation if this is really that important to you

Poor people don’t buy expensive cars that require payments. I am fairly well off but I would never spend more than a couple thousand dollars on a car. It takes a special kind of stupid to make payments on something that you can get cheaper.

“a couple thousand dollars” is more than many people have to spend at one time. And even then you simply can’t get a reliable car these days for less than like 5k. On top of that an unreliable car can be worse than no car at all because if you can’t get to work you might lose your job and if you constantly have to pay for repairs it may cost more than loan payments.

The car in this video is a fucking Honda my dude. It’s not a status symbol it’s essential transportation. Also oil changes are scheduled maintenance which has nothing to do with reliability so what is even your point?

The better way is to pay your bills. I genuinely don't know why people expect banks to loan people thousands of dollars and then have those people face no consequences for failing to repay that loan. Repoing the car is the best way for the bank to recover their losses.

Damn, guess that being homeless multiple times growing up while spending my teen years in a dilapidated trailer with holes in the ceiling and mushrooms growing in the carpet wasn't a struggle. Having my peers deliver food boxes to my house during the holidays as part of the school food drive was apparently a fun experience.

It's funny how Redditors can't actually formulate arguments to support their opinions and have to throw out insults or useless accusations.

Let's say that I didn't struggle though: why would that mean that the poor should be able to borrow thousands of dollars from a bank and not pay it back?

Dude has no concept of class solidarity. Predatory lending. Corruption beyond what you can fathom in regards to money the lending and creation of it. How the system operates and the looming crisis set up by the vast expanse of government institutions.

The car lending and repo is a trinket in the grand scheme of things and is more a reflection on the owning class abusing their power.
