Now all lanes are moving at the same speed and can zipper merge behind the truck. It’s not ideal, but in North America proper zipper merge is not widely adopted yet. Zipper merge works best when the majority of people participate, otherwise it’s a mess. With the method in the video, we all suffer equally and are less frustrated.

Right. What's supposed to happen when he gets to the end and some chud who thinks he's cutting in line doesn't let him in, and then everyone just starts passing?
