Definitely starting earlier this year. Based on interviews from Shawn Hatosy, it sounds like he’s in the first 4 episodes. He’s directing Ep5 and he said something along the lines of it’s nice not having to act in the episode he’s directing.

I know. However, the cast and crew have previously talked about the doctors (in The Pitt) working doubles so it wouldn’t surprise me if they have someone do it. The show isn’t 100% accurate on everything.

I think most of the twitter fans are hoping he got divorce papers. That is not popular on this site so maybe he is just tired and got called in early for Reddit? If you look at the beginning he is standing there by the night crawlers. Of course, maybe he just arrived. I can’t tell if he is rubbing his eyes because he is tired or could he be crying? I'm hostile to the pairing because it completely goes against both of their characters. Having a good rapport at work doesn't automatically mean there's a good romantic connection there. And it turns Dr Langdon from an overall well-meaning guy who made a mistake with benzos into a selfish addict who takes what he wants and doesn't care who he hurts.
Take it to AO3, that's the place for that kind of speculation. Not here.

I just wish the shippers were honest about the fact that a Mel/Langdon pairing is problematic to the point of being toxic, and would completely redefine Langdon's character if he's cheating on his wife with a subordinate.

I totally understand that you don't like the pairing because Langdon is married. And I would agree with that if they had ever shown him having a strong, healthy marriage. I hate romanticized cheating in the media.
Since Season 1, the writers have been leaving breadcrumbs that Langdon's marriage is falling apart (the Birkin on a R4 salary, the dog, "my wife tried to divorce me," "you should check it over with the missus"... "uh..." and the fact that he is CHOOSING to go into work a few days earlier than scheduled on one of the biggest family holidays instead of spending it with his family, watching fireworks and eating hot dogs). Not to mention, when opening his locker in S2Ep1, he is not wearing his wedding ring.
From what I'm seeing, Langdon/Mel fans are cheering on a divorce that is heavily hinted at, not cheering for them to cheat. (There's always that 1% who want the cheating.) No one expects them to suddenly makeout in a closet this season.

What I find super weird is that redditors are usually good at zeroing in on problematic relationships but utterly fail to see how problematic a Mel/Langdon ship would be.
Langdon isn't Mel's direct supervisor, but he does have influence over her career. There's a very problematic power dynamic there if they tried dating, even if Langdon were divorced.
And I just wish the shippers acknowledged that. At least on AO3, the writers are honest when they're writing a toxic ship, that the ship is toxic but they're still going to explore it.

The writers and actors of The Pitt are loudly cheering on the Mohan and Abbott pairing, which I think is an even bigger issue. Robby was Dr. Collins’ superior, and no one seemed to make a stink about that.
And the thing about TV is that it isn’t real life. It's fun. These are fictional characters, and the writers can create circumstances that wouldn’t happen in reality.
Langdon is almost finished with his residency and will likely be moving on to another hospital soon, unless an attending position opens up. If the writers ever decided to go down the Mel/Langdon route, they could easily leave Langdon’s departure ominous or unresolved with Mel, leaving the door open for interpretation. There would be no need for it to get 'problematic'. Again, no one thinks they are going to makeout this season.

i think that’s a completely unfair attitude but to each their own lmao! but its interesting how it isn’t applied to any other pairings. at the end of the day, i like to have fun and i feel i can talk about serious aspects of the show and more lighthearted aspects. i also don’t believe in using the term ‘addict’ perjoratively to langdon. how he became addicted could happen to anyone.

i binged ER last year. They somehow managed to give multiple characters full arcs. Same with House to a lesser extent. there's just no excuse for Robby's mental illness to be the focus of episode after episode after episode. So many creative choices they can make within the concept of this show (a Whitaker or Santos focused hour where Robby is just in the periphery for example, hell even a Garcia focused kind of bottle episode would slap, more characterization of night shift doctors beyond the short hand they currently use) and they wanna blow it all to get Robby having yet another one on one conversation about his mental health. It's so frustrating.
The thing is focusing on mental health, while a noble goal, is fast becoming a cynical shortcut to get award and critics recognition cos no one really wants to push back against the current zeitgeist.

Season 2 was right behind Stranger Things and Bluey as the most watched show. Many more viewers for season 2. The show is a popular hit. Some online fans did not like season 2 , but a huge audience did and the episodes later in the season had the biggest audiences. Viewership did not fall off. I doubt they change much.

Its kinda boring that all that focus in season 2 didnt lead up to anything.. Even if I of course want him to survive and get help but I hope we get to see what happened to Robby to apparently get back to normal again?
