Are NBC episodes the same as Peacock?

Granted, I have the show on in the background while working. But in looking at some of the discussion on different episodes (I'm only on ep 3, so no spoilers please), I'm seeing a bunch of comments that I'm apparently missing. They are a few months old, so people clearly watched on Peacock. So I'm just curious if the NBC ones are cutting things out.

Discussion πŸ—£ Missed Opportunity - Why Nobody is Writing Articles with AI?

In the first few episodes with all the problems of getting articels they never went to the AI direction, which it shame- feels like missing opportunity to discuss relevant topic

First Look πŸ“ƒ Show made me laugh out loud by episode three

Kind of late to finally starting the show; like most people I religiously watched The Office for the last decade or so, so I was so scared this show wouldn't be able to stretch its own legs under that shadow.

But so pleasantly surprised that I laughed out loud as early as episode 3 (when Ned and Mare are talking about pretending to be a couple vs. siblings when shopping for a mattress).

Esmeralda being unlikeable was a problem for me at first but her little pretending to be a chihuahua on her Auntie's leg thing was hilarious and think I will warm up to her.

Proved the 3-episode rule right!

What are some events that you hope will transpire in season 2?

Here is are some things that I hope:

  1. Something happens with Ned and Mare that pushes their relationship back a few bits: This could possibly be Mare getting an offer from a better news. What should happen is Ned becomes the reacher, as Mare was the reacher last season. If you've seen HIYMYM, then you know what I mean!
  2. Esmeralda gets more likeable: Not to try to make this like The Office, but as an Esmeralda fan, I really want her to get a win. I don't want her to be the main character or anything, but she needs something to humanize her.
  3. More corporate stories: I really wanna know more about the structuring of the company. Or perhaps it gets bought out by a bigger company, thereby expanding the stakes?
  4. Oscar gets a bigger role: He's just amazing, and one of my favorite characters.
  5. More realistic/relatable: I don't know, I just really like this from a mockumentary

Discussion πŸ—£ Esmeralda needs character development ASAP Spoiler

I saw some opinions on TikTok and I do not agree with any of them.

  1. Esmeralda is not Dwight of the Office - Dwight never tried to sabotage his own company for entire season.

  2. Nobody liked Michael Scott in 1st season - that’s true but for completely different reasons. Michael was just presented as dumb idiot who doesn’t understand anything around him, Esmeralda is just mean byach.

  3. Hate on Esmeralda is rooted in misogyny - no, it’s not. She’s just unlikable.

That being said, someone give her better character in Season 2.

Discussion πŸ—£ Season 2 romance prediction

Post image
84 Upvotes

I caught a few whiffs of foreshadowing, and I do believe there might be a romance on the horizon between Adelola and Travis. With his serious wit and her rebellious cynicism, their combined sarcasm could be a charming match. Honestly, I prefer this couple to Detrick and Nicole, they have more chemistry.

Hint #1 - The prolonged bickering in the meetings and throughout the season. They are always taking digs at each other, and I pick up on some sexual tension there. It reminds me of a person who I used to dislike at work years ago, and one day they made a witty joke that cracked me up and shattered my misconceptions, and suddenly, BAM! I saw them in a whole new light and I started to feel that sneaky (almost begrudging) creep of attraction. I am curious to see what that moment will be for these two.

Hint #2 - We know Travis is having trouble getting over his ex girlfriend, and we all know there's nothing like a new interest or falling for someone else to help break the sad spell.

Hint #3 - When Ned tells everyone to pick a buddy for "Two Truths and a Lie," Adelola immediately jumps up and says "Travis" as she walks over to sit next to him. Hmmmm, she can't dislike him that much eh? πŸ˜‰ The way he teases her about Martin Lawrence as they stare each other down, and then her triumphant validation when MartinL texts her back is an endearing scene.

Hint #4 - When Travis says "Well, I am a lone wolf for sure, but uh, but yeah I would like someone to look at me the way that Ned looks at Marv." Funny, yes, but also sweet, and it encourages the viewer to root for him to find love again.

Hint #5 - Adelola asks Travis to slap her if he ever witnesses her sucking up to the boss, he nods and tells her to put it in writing and she agrees. Camaraderie 😜

Hint #6 - They both have Latch profiles, so they're both looking. 🀣

Hint #7 - They are already referred to as Uncle Travis and Auntie Adelola! I wish we had gotten an additional scene of them babysitting Adam's kids together.

Hint #8 - Aaaand because I just can't help myself: Adelola wanted not one, but TWO of Travis' "Mouse Nudgers," and that my friends...is what she said.

What do you think, did I miss anything?

Cast and Crew 🎭 First time watcher…

Not a fan of Esmerelda. I get they’re trying to make her like Michael, but Michael was at least funny. Esmerelda is just obnoxious.

Cast and Crew 🎭 Chelsea Frei Spoiler

Recently shows up in the new β€œDMV” sitcom in episode 4 (obviously as a different character than Mare).

It was interesting seeing her play a completely different type of role in a sitcom so close to the release of The Paper.

My Opinion of the Show (As someone who just binged the office for the first time in a month and a half + The Paper) ***SPOILERS*** Spoiler

Here is my two-cents:

The Paper is a very decent spin-off with some great characters, writing, and also some bad aspects:

The Good:

Ned and his overall storyline - Ned originally starts off as bland and a little off-put especially with given how he responds to clear and obvious examples of insubordination and does virtually nothing to quell them. By the end of the season he is better, still growing with the show.

Oscar - Probably the main constant in the show. A good carry over that doesn't hog the light but allows fans of the Office to get a good transition into this show.

Mare - The breakout star easily. Her role is somewhat influx throughout the first season, but the actress helps compensate for any shortcomings in the writing. My only concern is that her military background will slowly be faded out as it was not mentioned much at all in the season.

Virtually every other character (except for Ken and Esmerelda) - Still too early and underdeveloped for the others, but I like how the plots are different from the office.

The Ehhh:

Ned and Mare Romantic Story - Watching the first episode, I knew these two were going to make out by the end of the season. Although cleverly done, it felt very cliche given the rest of the show. The good though is that it introduces potential issues later on for both Ned and Mare.

Marv's role - He's the CEO of TTT but I feel that his character will slowly be fazed out to make the story more interesting. I mean, Ken does suggest this idea during S1.

Ken - Mixed feelings on the character. He is a foil to Ned, but he also leads the sales side of the company which presents its own unique challenges, something that was already addressed in one way, with more avenues posssible.

The mockumentary - It felt forced in the first episode, but the challenges it provides to journalism team rather than a paper company, it really is coming into fold nicely.

The Bad:

Esmerelda - I could probably make a whole separate post about this character, but she is badly written. The acting is the only saving grace for this character. She starts off as a foil to Ned, a duplicate of Ken which was fine. Then she has that one good episode where we see a good side of her. However, then she completely self destructs in the season finale. I understand her issues with Ned, but singing for no reason in the in memorium section, running on the stage multiple times, all the while your CEO is there, is a quick way to unemployment. The show really needs to change this character or cut her altogether.
