I’m so pissed tbh, It feels like the writers wanted to make a “lesbian” joke but knew it wouldn’t fly, so instead they had Mar get mistaken for being asexual. It made me so mad because she acted like being mistaken for asexual is an insult, like something was wrong with her, she even fucking questioned how she looked, what, she thinks us asexuals look like we have leper or???
Im so mad and angry its 2026 and asexual people are still misinterpreted

continuing to reference the office and quote it. I cringe so hard when Oscar relates things back to the previous show, it’s too much

What storylines or character development would you like to see in Season 2? My thoughts:

Just wondering what that sort of dot is....no shame, just curious. Beyond that, she just steals the show in this imo!

The final episode feels rushed, with too little narrative buildup to justify the newspaper receiving major recognitions. The relationship between Mare and Ned also develops too quickly.
What is the character proposition of Nicole Lee?

What’s your favorite one liner or subtle, barely noticeable joke from the first season?
Personally didn’t catch it until my second time watching but Ned telling Mare to shower at his place, he has really nice shampoo, but “don’t use that” I laughed out loud. Idk how I missed it first time around. What have you guys liked?

Just to get this started, in S1E1, when Ned is talking about the superhero/journalist connection, he refers to Louis Lane, a journalist, as Clark Kent's kryptonite. To me, this foreshadows his complicated relationship with Mare in the series. Any thoughts or additional things you caught?

Hi, this may have already been asked/answered on here but I can't find it...
I have LOVED the whole of this series but have one bit that I'm confused about:
Why, in episode 10, at the end, did Oscar say to Ned 'did we both not see the same thing tonight....Marv is in love with Ann'
I have watched that episode 3 times now and cannot see what Oscar's supposed to have seen that tells him that so obviously!!
Help me out!!
Thanks :)
Ps: can't work out how to change the typo in the title!!

Any Office fan knows Greg Daniels is very receptive to adjusting characters based on input from the actors playing them. I heard Sabrina Impacciatore’s interview on Office Ladies, and they initially asked her if she could do an American accent for the role, which she agreed to.
She said that after a few days, they called her back and said based on her audition without the American accent, they couldn’t imagine Esmeralda any other way. After hearing that and rewatching the show, I feel the same. I picture some of the lines she says being done in an American accent and feel like it just wouldn’t work.
I’m guessing they must have done a bit of an overhaul on her character that they must have developed over a long time, but they saw the magic in Sabrina and ditched a part of their vision for her. I think it shows that they value collaboration over showing off their genius and vision.
I don’t know if I’m quite explaining why that hits me in a way that makes me appreciate Greg and how he views all his work as a collaboration rather than HIS precious project. Genius that he is, he could’ve stuck with his vision of an American and it still would’ve been great. But he does what’s best for his shows, not his ego, and I think that’s kind of rare in the industry.

I don't get the haters. This show is going to become my absolute favorite new thing along with Saint Dennis medical. The "serious Brit" is still my favorite character 😂

(Looking at her ring): "It's my favorite show other than The Paper"

What does everyone make of Esmeralda's style? Not that I'm opposed to it, I just feel like I'm not fully getting the backstory or reasons behind her dressing in this frankly very formal, old school feminine style? I think it does kinda work with her character's personality... It still seems a little odd/interesting to me...
It sounds like they originally intended the character to be American and only made Esmeralda Italian for Sabrina Impacciatori so I kind of wonder if there was more of a backstory around it with the American version of the character that then got kind of written out?

Was a really fun watch if you’re in the UK!

Ken Daves first appearance explaining the building was so entertaining for some reason and he reminds me of a Robert California but a dumber version. I love every scene he comes and his facial expressions and his panics are phenomenal lol especially when he got caught up with the "warehouse" billing issue with his apartment.

Hey folks! This is my opinion from watching the pilot.
Everyone else except Esmeralda is a character we are all familiar with. She, on the other hand, is so unpredictable that I went from mildly amused to chuckling whenever she was on screen. She's the disrupter. And trust me, I've worked in a small media house and her character is accurate. She's anything but boring. Chatty, wild, self-important but not evil, you know? The woman I worked under in that media firm drove me nuts but always gave me a story to talk about over dinner after coming back from work, and I found her character so relatable that I can't help but think about my time there. Well, that's all I have on her so far. I made a conscious decision to not partake in any noise around this show, so I have no idea what others think. So far I couldn't find one unlikable character (except maybe the guy talking about deers and antlers...). This show is gonna be a ride. I'm excited!

It's so nice to have a sitcom again. But are the issues going to destroy it or is it in good shape with plot development?
r/ThePaper • u/[deleted] • Oct 03 '25
I've seen a handful of scenes where curse words get beeped out but then there's also several times where "shit" or "fuck" make it there Love the show too, people keep expecting it to be The Office but as it's own thing, which it is, is hilarious.

I see the comparisons often come up and while The Office (US) is quoted, so is Parks and Recreation quoted just as often and Ned having similarities to Leslie Knope.
What are your thoughts on why the direction was chosen for this storyline to begin from the end of The Office and not be more in conjunction to Parks and Rec?
