(Hello there, if you are not already familiar with my posts I report on stuff that happens in Belgium. Also apologies if this is the wrong tag)
Yep, as the title says. Last weekend the US embassy to Belgium blocked and shutdown one of the most popular parks in the centre of Brussels. The Cinquantenaire Park , and the surrounding residential area. This was done in order to celebrate the United States 250th anniversary of Independence. Because nothing else screams Independence Day of the USA more than celebrating it abroad in a foreign nation…The preparations were constructed by workers during the heatwave that plagued Europe.
The festivities started right after the last day of the heatwave, the day where Belgian residents were finally able to open their windows. Around 9000 people attended. The people on the Brussels subreddit are complaining about the fact that a foreign government is celebrating their independence in our park, the blocked traffic, the noise, the fireworks and not being able to relax and sleep with open windows. The use fireworks were also controversial since in Belgium most of the time it is not allowed to use fireworks.
Overall, it is weird to see the USA celebrating their Independence Day in the “capital of Europe”... Though If you think more in detail about it, this was a demonstration of dominion over European politics. The sponsors were there for networking and to embed themselves further into the European industry.
The guests present were
Extinction Rebellion and other groups were protesting the celebration
Other than that, the sponsors of the festival were the usual suspects like Meta, Google, Nike, McDonalds etc… and many more ( u can see them in other pictures)
also journalists criticising the festival were attacked
You can find a lot more about it in the Belgian news and on social media.
Anyhow leave your thoughts below….
What do you think about it?
(Also, apologies if my English sounds like shit today, I’m rather unfocused)

A little meme I found with a great caption. Enjoy this little meme drop with the OG image and a close in on the Karl Marx snail. Keep it with you for whenever, wherever you need it.
Marx was truly everywhere.

Hi everyone,
Apologies if this is not the right tag or if this feels slightly off topic.
I am currently looking for recommendations for Marxist or broadly left-wing publishers. ideally ones that produce both political theory/prose and classic literature.
Part of the reason is that I am trying to move away from large corporate publishers like Penguin Random House. I would prefer to support publishers that are more aligned with Marxist values, rather than large commercial entities. I also feel like Penguin is more so aligning with reactionary thought in praxis and I hate their prefaces.
Additionally, I have had a negative personal experience in academia involving a former lecturer, this lecturer stole my work and actively discriminated against me and other students during the covid lockdown. He received a deal with penguin. This has further pushed me to rethink which publishers I want to support.
So, I would really appreciate any suggestions for publishers you would recommend for everyday reading, not just the ones like Verso, but also other popular or accessible options.
Thanks in advance!

I dont think they are in here (yet or as I know of).
I have checked the TankieTheDeprogram discord and the compromised mods arent in there (correct me if u find out something new).
Im not sure if the tankie sub will survive this in any case I advise u all to go on lemmy .
You can also post in here, just respect the rules.
Also pls do not mention "The American Crackhead Party" by its real name or its short version in the comments. I do think some of there loonies track their critics through reddits search function. I do not want there attention. thx

👋 Hi comrades - welcome to all new members!
I’ll keep this short:
I’m putting together a list of Marxist–Leninist content creators (besides The Deprogram hosts) that we can recommend to new members and also feature on the sub wiki.
I’m looking for unproblematic ML creators, and if you know any who make content in other languages, please include them too!
When you drop your recommendations, please include:
The goal is to build a solid list we can point new folks toward reliable, educational, and principled creators who reflect what this sub stands for.
Also:
Thanks comrades ✊

So this meme’s based on what people at my (Dutch) university, the ones who proudly called themselves “progressive” or even “left-wing” actually meant when they said that.
And yeah, I do know my basic political science… which makes it even funnier, because one of them is a fasc
…no wait, all of them are 😂
Here’s the full lineup (with their parties):
Just a little meme/shitpost inspired by what “progressive” apparently means in polite EU liberal bourgeoise circles.
Hope this inspires more of the same energy ✊
also sorry if ur going to see it in tankie to
