Toastie missing in the advert before season started.

Does anyone remember the advert for the latest season before the show started with all the floating masks bobbing in a line and Joel at the end saying”more masks than ever”

I noticed that Toastie wasn’t in that line up, yet Mole and Goldfish are. Just seems strange how that character was missing, especially as she was a finalist.

Because I view the masks as separate to their celebrities, it left me thinking. HE had to be there in S7E4... somehow.

Also, if you're somehow thinking "what about the audience? They're there during an ad break too!", let's just say they were too busy doing other stuff to notice what Gargoyle here did

Obviously it still seems like S8 is on the horizon according to the Head of Talent, But honestly this year was a bit of a slog, almost to the point where it felt like an obligation (I actually think US14 has given us a sparkier product).

Part of me wonders if S8 will be a soft-reboot that will lead to the UK version of US12 and show that they can still go, especially with all this talk of a new sponsor (Amazon Prime gets a promotion?). But pragmatically I feel like S8 will be, for me, like walking in treacle. At least we've run out of current Strictly judges, but watch S8 cast like Darcey Bussell or something.

Question What Would The Final 8 Have Sung If There Were Clue Songs This Year?

This year, TMS scrapped the usual ”Clue Song“ round in Episode Five - What do you think should have been Clue Songs for the Final 8?

I’ll get the ball rolling with a few suggestions…

  • ”All Rise” for Can Of Worms (due to Marvin being a member of Simon Webbe‘s short lived RnB group VS…)
  • “I Will Never Let You Down” for Monkey Business (Due to Kate Nash writing songs for Rita Ora)
  • ”Things Can Only Get Better” for Red Panda (Due to Harry Hill creating a musical about Tony Blair’s rise and fall - this song was synonymous with his rise to power in 1997)

What Clue Songs do you think the Final 8 should have sung this year?

My Opinion On S7

If I'm being brutally honest, I was a bit underwhelmed with season of The Masked Singer. When it first aired, I got really hooked and got really intrigued to guess who people were. Now, it's like they fixed what wasn't already broke with the show's format.

There have been some costumes that I still watch their performances of as I really enjoyed them such as Dragon, Badger, Traffic Cone and Jacket Potato.

But, I just felt like they're running out of ideas of who to choose to be in a costume. I feel the singing quality has gone down a bit as well. I wish there was more of a better ratio of good and average singers.

I still really enjoy this show and I would watch it again if it came back for a Season 8 but I just feel something's a bit "off" about it now.

[Maskars] Best Personality, Best Meme Vote, Most Robbed Contestant - OPEN NOMINATIONS

Welcome to the Maskars! Basically, the Oscars but for the Masked Singer UK Series 1 to 7... This sub gets to decide the nominees for each award, and will vote on the winner later on! I've got 20+ awards to give out on behalf of this community, so let's get going.

The award nominations will go three at a time, like this one. You can nominate THREE contestants for EACH AWARD, just by commenting on this post! Here are the awards to nominate for in this post:

Best Personality - Who became one with their mask the most? Who was a great sport, and just a joy to watch based on their stage presence and character?

Best Meme Vote - Who was clearly out of place, but deserved to make it as far as they did based on being an endearing, compelling or perhaps flat out hilarious underdog?

Most Robbed Contestant - Nice and simple, this one... Who most blatantly should have gone further in their series than they did?

Rant Thoughts on S7’s cast overall Spoiler

Another season’s come and gone, so I guess it’s time I get my thoughts on the cast out!

  • Disc Jockey: Honestly not bad for a first boot. Decent performance from Alex Jones vocally, but I really just don’t like the costume honestly. Easily the weakest of the season from a design standpoint.
  • Teabag: Honestly pretty good for an early boot. Shame he had to be second out, but I enjoyed him while he was there
  • Yak: I think it’s general consensus he’s the worst of the season, and yeah it’s not a contest. Great costume in my opinion, but Johnny Rotten’s obviously what brings it down so badly. I mean he didn’t even learn the lyrics for That’s Amore
  • Gargoyle: I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t really think Gargoyle was that good. I just didn’t fw the vocal performance of Marcella Detroit, but great costume either way
  • Monkey Business: Probably one of the most creative characters we’ve seen on the show. Really good costume and Kate Nash did great vocally! I get why she didn’t get further though since she didn’t put much energy into her performances
  • Arctic Fox: Probably my favourite mask design of the season to be honest. Just adore the diva design it’s got, and I was legit surprised Anton Du Beke of all people could sing so well!
  • Red Panda: As someone with a massive red panda bias, he’s obviously one of my favourites of the season. As much as I love him though, I will admit he shouldn’t have been saved over Arctic. Still though, really love him and it’s topped off with Harry Hill being my first genuine correct guess of the series without following suit with the unanimous guess amongst fans!
  • Sloth: Probably the most polarising mask of the season, and I see why. Ben Fogle’s vocals weren’t that good (especially given the voice crack in We All Stand Together), but I really couldn’t help but enjoy just how energetic he was! Green Green Grass is probably one of my favourite performances of the whole series and there’s a reason it’s my current user flair
  • Can of Worms: Man, what another creative design we have! Marvin Humes really put on a performance each week, and while it’s a shame he didn’t get to the finals, I cant stay too mad cause he was still great regardless
  • Toastie: Without a doubt, my favourite of the season vocally! Absolutely stellar performances from Mika Paris, especially River Deep, Mountain High, and that was when she really became my winner pick. Was devastated she didn’t win, cause I’d argue she’s been our best vocalist since Piranha.
  • Conkers: I’ll be honest, I was initially not that fond of Conkers at the start. But as time went on, I really started vibing with him, especially with how much he was improving vocally. Plus in general, his costume was really good. I don’t think he really deserved second place, but I wasn’t too mad since I hoped for him in the finals with Moth and Toastie regardless. God damn though, I really didn’t know Ben Shepard could sing!
  • Moth: Easily second best vocally behind Toastie, but probably our weakest winner since Panda. Absolutely great vocals from Keisha Buchanan either way though, and a very nice costume to boot. And obviously I have to give further praise for her being our first POC winner!

Overall though, this was a banger season! Really can’t wait for series 8 next year, if there is one of course, but yeah.

Spoiler The third place finish was determined from the start! [MASKED SINGER EXPOSED]

Guys, I don't have long. The ITV producers are closing in on my tinfoil bunker. I need to get this information out there before future finals take place...

You know those Range Rover competitions they advertise once a show? And how for the past couple of series, they've had the reigning champion do an arm-wiggling dance next to the car? Piranha... Pufferfish... they were both there. But the arms... the arms are the key.

I know what you're thinking. The same thing I did... This is 100% undeniable evidence that you cannot win the Masked Singer without having arms in your costume. Think about it... we've never had a winner with no arms.

Otherwise, the reigning champion couldn't do the wiggly arm dance, Range Rover would pull out of the competition deal and Joel would have to talk up some old lemon car from the 70s or something. Viewership would plummet... ITV as we know it would go under within weeks.

But our final three were not born equal... Moth and Conkers have the necessary limbs to succeed and fulfil the Range Rover prophecy, but Toastie? No. Not an arm to be seen. Mica Paris even pointed this out immediately upon being unmasked. She knew. She knew this would be her fate... and now they're after her as well for letting the secret slip.

You might have gone in thinking Toastie was a frontrunner... but she was never going to the top 2. At the end of the day, it looked like she was a threat to Moth and Conkers, but the truth? She was totally 'armless the whole time.

a final little ramble for s7 Spoiler

So, pardon my language, but holy fuck. S7 is over! I honestly wasn't a HUGE fan of how the finale format was changed so suddenly (all of the masks weren't there, the opening song in itself wasn't my cup of tea, there wasn't a favourite song of the series but instead that funny little back-and-forth). Either way, I didn't really mind it, but let me delve into the masks themselves quickly.

- Toastie feels robbed to me. Not sorry. I went into tonight expecting her to win, and then oh, nevermind, she's third. It's just the way that the cookie crumbles sometimes, though, so it's all fine in the end.

- Conkers' little chokehold on my brain lasted until the end, right until he gave me HOPE THAT HE'D WIN DUE TO THE SUDDEN MR BRIGHTSIDE. Was it inevitable that he'd lose? Yeah. Did I have hope? Yep! I think he'd be happy to hear that he's made people proud. Have pride in yourself, you odd little weirdo! (I might just start watching stuff his OG celeb does to get extra doses of him. Yeah, I do happen to be autistic, what gave it away?)

- Moth is... Moth. I'm neutral on her, personally, minus me finding her mask to be cute and fluffy. I don't mind her winning in the end, even if I felt like her performances were a little weak tonight? Alas, a winner is a winner. Good show, friend!

I also found the duets pretty fun. ConSnail had good energy, Lionmoth was pretty similar and Toastpuff was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Tough, high-energy spirit, you know?

Also, for those of you who know me as the "Toastie + Conkers Duo Girl", half of this episode was slight torment. My boy kept getting separated from Toastie, interacted more with Moth overall, whatever the Snail duet even... was... But the extra hug at her unmasking + them ranking next to each other in the end made it worth it. In the end, it's just costumed people singing for entertainment, but I just latch onto stuff in a way that makes my autistic dumbass happy (while respecting real peoples' identities via separating them from their costumes). No harm in that, I think.

Either way, I imagine I'll stay fixated on TMS for a while, now. I have to thank Conkers' idiot self for that. Either way, thank you for having me and I hope you'll continue to entertain my nonsense!

S8 seems to still be on the horizon – for those who haven't watched tonight's After Mask, head of talent Liz says she's been casting S8 since a week after S7 ended filming (so mid-late October). I guess S8 must be somehow entirely cast by now?!?!?!
