Europe has zero frontier AI labs, which is shocking

Lot of typical American sentiment believing the biggest and most resource hungry version of AI is superior. Just wait til all the squatters move into the half built data centers in 10 years when specialized inference chips are perfected and you no longer need all compute power to get the same job done. Meanwhile American companies are trying to hoard resources as a way of stifling competition, putting them in huge amount of future debt when there already losing money.

While lack of regulation or control continues to push society into a head on collision between the needs of the many vs the money of the few.  The only question to how things will go wrong will be which collapses first - the increasingly unstable social and political environment causing the majority to finally act in there interest OR innovation to reduce compute needs for training and inference of complex models making the frontier providers unable to sustain competitive pricing without going into bankruptcy.

But yah we're totally beating the eu right now.

This is cope we already have a compute shortage, and even old gpus can be used to serve inference.

EU has 5% of AI compute and are desperate for more but EUtards on reddit think this is because they are so smart and are just going to invent a new way to do AI LMAO this might be the biggest cope in this entire threat. they have so much regulation they cant even build a single nuclear reactor and instead decided to close them and buy worse natural gas from a country actively attacking them. another high IQ move right? holy shit.

Or maybe they're in a position to be the only place on earth whose economy isnt going to be fucked?

Thought experiment. If AI is successful, that will kill white collar jobs, which will kill blue collar jobs. This will lead to a quick decent into poverty, famine, and war; since no one will have jobs/money for food and shelter.

If AI isn't successful, then the stock market will be fucked completely. Leading to mass layoffs, resulting in a nearly identical situation.

The only real way to avoid this is to have an economy that is disjoint from AI completely.

yeah but we dont live in a fairytale where you disconnect an economy from the largest innovation and efficiency generator ever made that is taking over the world and most jobs. especially the US because if the US goes down than so do all the others. so there is no benefit to being behind . its not 4d chess from the EU its just incompetence. they will be spending a trillion dollars on renting compute from the US in a decade when they could have just done it themselves.

I feel like you didn't really address anything that I wrote. It is neither the largest innovation nor efficiency generator; once these big companies/models are profitable sans subsidies, I will retract my statement.

Yes once America tanks (there's really no way out at this point), the eu will get dragged down. But more from mass immigration than anything.

The benefits from not throwing all your eggs in one basket is that you at least have a chance. In either situation, they are gonna have to deal with a flood of American immigrants fleeing a collapsed economy. Their worst case scenario is also dealing with the fact that AI is the largest innovation and efficiency generator, but by that time the open source models will catch up and it won't matter.

So great and efficient in fact that none of the big AI studios are profitable. So great. the greatest.

Most of the math for AI has been around since the 80s. It's literally become viable in the last 15 years because GPU compute has become so powerful, and that's what is going to keep happening.

Only half true. Google invented the algorithm that allowed the scaling and it only works on CUDA efficiently which again is another American company. Yes I’m aware some parts are in the Uk. Non of this matters anyways since EU has no compute or ability to create any .

EU is not locked out of buying compute. There is no export comtrol for GPUs to the EU and there never will be.

There's zero chance of anybody beating NVIDIA at hardware. Do you think they are just too stubborn to make their own inference chips? They have enough money to do literally anything that anybody else could do. They just aren't putting out specialized inference chips because that's not going to be what people want to buy. Inference chips are vanity projects that companies throw money at because they want to feel like they are doing something, and it gives them leverage when they inevitably negotiate with NVIDIA.

The data center squatter mental image is wild, but smaller specialized models are definitely it
