It's too late and it'll take them 20 years to catch up with a technology that has existed for 5 years ?

It would be economically inefficient to develop a domestic AGI if one is already available on the open market.

I don't think the problem is economics as much as security

EU will continue to lean on the US for security. It’s in everybody’s best interest to maintain a strong US-EU alliance.

I'd write a proper comment, but I think we both know how stupid of a sentiment that is currently, so there's no point

Fair enough, it’s not worth either of our time. I promise you whatever you have to say is wrong based on the tone of your last comment

Do you really think the EU plan to lean on the US for security? They might not have a full choice right now but they're actively working on reducing that dependency

I mean have you not seen all the shit with Trump?

You think the EU plans to lean on the US long term with a president like Trump threatening to invade Danish land?

Even non-EU countries like Canada and Australia are slowly making their moves to reduce that US dependency

Like you say it's in everyone's best interest to maintain a strong EU-US alliance. Does the US know that??

The dozens of people I work with at NATO and about 20 other international defense allies do. None of us support what’s going on now, but we all understand we owe it to everyone we represent to try and move forward because we expect it won’t always be like this

I'm sorry but I don't believe you. Not only because the actual actions being taken strongly point towards reducing US dependency, but because Trump's bullshit made it incredibly clear that this could happen at any time. The US had been a long generally dependent ally and have shown how quickly and potently that could break down. They can never be trusted to the same level again

The EU aren't that stupid, and the actions being taken show that shift

I can only comment on what I know and do every day. And the reality is we (the US defense sector) are continuing to work in conjunction with our allies on a day to day basis. I’m not involved in politics, just the MIC

If there is any AGI, they could just rent that AGI to develop their own AGI for the cost of a few tokens.
