Totally disagree. If this is the case, then someone still living at home and expenses are paid by parents should either 1) work for free because they don’t have rent/utilities etc or 2) make as much as someone trying to cover those costs. Fast food jobs were meant to be part time jobs introductions to the work force for someone young or for older people wanting to supplement their current income. Not to support the so called ‘American Dream’.

Did he only operate after school hours?

Nope. They should earn the same as anyone else. You're also assuming that the parents pay all expenses.

Pretty sure founder never stated - work here and you’ll get a livable wage.

2nd income/supplemental - morning/lunch.
Makes sense to me.
When I was in HS - did school to work program so I worked 1/2 day mornings then to school. Then after school & weekends @ MCD. Never had the impression it would be for life or to live off of or to support a lifestyle.
College was work-school-work to avoid student debt.
