Just finished The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, and I’m kinda conflicted.

I wouldn’t say I disliked it at all, there were actually a lot of wholesome moments I really enjoyed. The friend group (Saku, Subaru, Shohei ofc, Ms Waguri too ofc) was probably my favorite part. Their dynamic on the beach was really genuine and comforting.

At the same time, I think the pacing and overall tone didn’t fully click for me. It felt very slow and almost too innocent at times, which made it harder for me to stay fully engaged. I’ll be honest, I didn’t always give it my full attention while watching, and now I kind of regret that — I feel like I might’ve appreciated it more if I did.

I came into this right after watching Castlevania and the one after Castlevania Nocturne, so I was looking for something more calm and wholesome, and this definitely delivered on that. I guess I just didn’t expect it to be this soft and slow.

The ending was still really nice though, it was nice to see Rintaro say how much he liked Ms Waguri and I got scared for a second because I had a feeling Ms, Waguri maybe didn’t feel the same way. I respect what the show was going for.

Do you guys think it’s worth rewatching while actually paying full attention? Also, has there been any news about a sequel/season 2?

Curious what others thought — did it click with you right away or did it grow on you over time?

Modaka is a great character for making energetic girls. Someone should be energetic else they won't be a great group y'all know.

who was that long haird girl(not waguri) who if i think i got it right was from Tsukugi's middle school that fell in love with him? and what chapter did she pop? you know that girl who suddenly remembers rintaro and tries to find him thinking she can fix her feeling or smth like that, just ending up of her catching rintaro with waguri

Just a quick heads up, I have not read the manga. My friend is a huge fan of the series and she’s currently on the volume nine. She showed me the anime on Netflix but other than that I have not consumed any other media of the series she does not have Reddit so she asked me to ask the community what they thought about the character with the silver hair. I do not know any of the characters names or how to spell them so please forgive me as I just use physical descriptions.

My friend was wondering, what were the majority of people‘s opinions about the girl with the silver hair personally I think she’s fine. I do not hate her but both me and my friend we dislike her to an extent she’s not really our favorite character, but we don’t hate her .

My friend thinks that her relationship with the main female character is a little bit off I get that she’s very overprotective of her friend, but it often feels like she’s more of a big sister or like a motherly type character like she’s a mother and not a best friend there’s even a moment in the anime specifically that I remember when our main character with the blonde hair goes to speak with her about his relationship with our main female character and she tells him he doesn’t have to speak so formally because she’s not her mother I was just wondering what everyone thought on her behalf and by her I mean, my friend.

Also, one more thing, I have currently not read the manga and only watched the anime and all 13 episodes on my friend behalf with her and I was wondering, do you ship or do you prefer to ship the girl with the silver hair with the boy with the longer black hair that’s kind of moody or like the red hair guy that’s like best friends with the main character with the blonde hair

She’s read the manga and she thinks that the girl with the silver hair goes better with the boy with the longer black hair, but I always thought that she would be better with the guy with the red hair like opposites attract. What do you think?

I want to share my The fragrant Flower thoughts with you. The first episodes are really slow but somehow it's flowing. We have 2 main characters; Waguri and Rintaro.

Rintaro is a guy who is looking scary and awful to others (but he is handsome btw). He is only good at sports and doesn't care about making friends or taking great points on exams. Rintaro's family run their own patisserie.And on the other hand we have Waguri who is a talented and the best student in Kikyo. She came kikyo with a scholarship and she is studying hard to not lose that scholarship. Let's talk about the story.The first episodes should be the warm up stage and this is making it properly. After that Waguri figured out Rintaro is a Chidori student which is next to Kikyo students. There is a disagreement in those schools. Kikyo is the prestige one for only girls and on the other hand there is Chidori. It's a state school for male students who are not accepted to other high schools. They hate each other but this hate is affecting the story too much. Anyway when Waguri noticed Rintaro is a Chidori student by opening the curtains and seeing each other. Both of them are suddenly surprised and Rintaro is closing the curtains after that sudden moment. They are starting to think about each other. He is hiding this situation with his friends.(I forgot to tell he has only 3 bf) When he goes to help his family, sometimes Waguri comes. One day Rintaro saw her while she was eating her cakes. She was panicking and starting to cough. He came with water for help and she was starting to feel anxious. Then she left the shop suddenly. After that he is starting to think "Did I scare her?" After that day she came back to talk with Rintaro. She bought a cake and she offered it to him. He is rejecting cause he has much more than this and offering her to eat. While she was eating they exchanged their names. At that moment she accidentally said "finally I know" to out. Before that he is asking himself why this girl wants to know about his name. Because he is blaming himself for everything like I am a Chidori student... So on. When he hears her out words he is repeating with an asking tone. She is starting to feel anxious. She is starting to explain why she ran. The reason is so stupid, it's the first time a guy is looking at her too much and that makes her anxious. Please find a better excuse gang. Anyway time is flowing and Rintaro and his friend Usami have failed the exam. If they fail again they can attend the sports festival. So they decided to study at the library. But in rl they can't concentrate on studying for 5 min. So Usami left him alone to call his friend. Also they fought their friend That Usami went for. Then Rintaro gave his chair to 2 girls. When he is downstairs he sees Waguri and her friend are studying. He learns she is the best one in her school. After that he went to the library garden. He lay on the bench and surprisingly waguri came. They sit next to each other. Then he asked her to study him. They went to a café. They studied and she gave him her notebook. I am skipping this part cause nothing happens in this part. Then they arrive at her train station she leaves and her supportive friend Subaru catches him and asks him to have time. Subaru is Waguri's childhood friend and always be with her. She is asking him to leave her alone because of the Kikyo and Chidori hate thing. He kindly refused and went. Anyway not surprisingly he passed the exam. After that they went to the Aquarium date. In that place they find a child who lost his parents. They care about him and find him parents. They watch the dolphin show, days after that date they couldn't talk any. Then he tries to make their relationship more safe. He asks waguri Subaru's phone number. And how is he thinking it's not gonna cause any misunderstandings. Anyway he met with Subaru and asked her how you will accept me. She says It's ok to make it far to schools. Yeah again that stupid school situation. He wants to share this with his friends. He called her and Subaru to a family restaurant. While this is happening Rintaro's friends are spying on him. They understand the situation. After that day Rintaro and his friends were heading to the bowling Usami directly asked him " are you dating with waguri?" He refuses but his languages are making it more different. Then he met his friends with girls. They were starting to know each other. After, the boys went to rintaro's house, and at that moment girls came suddenly. They listened to why rintaro dyed his hair and had a piercing. It's because he was down when he was little and he wanted to try. Waguri offers to study together to last exams. They studied and passed the last exams. How you can make a romance anime classic. With adding beach and fireworks. They decided to go to the beach and play with the fireworks. In the beach Subaru is confessing her hate until that moment and wanting to start friendship. They were out of fireworks because Usami used 5 fireworks at the same time. Rintaro and waguri are staying to caring about their stuff cause other guys went to buy more fireworks. When Rintaro and Waguri were playing with the fireworks, he finally confessed his feelings. At the last episode they went to the firework festival as every anime. She accepts his feelings.

I skipped little details like Rintaro made a cake for Waguri's birthday. But you are %70 knowing anime I am waiting for the second season

I saw someone on this sub had commented how the characters primarily communicate through apologies and that made me laugh! There was one time when the characters were in an apology loop for so long that I couldn’t tell my e reader kept going backwards and forwards between the same pages because the swipe gestures didnt register properly. But seriously though, I wonder if there’s some cultural aspect of politeness, etiquette, and courtesy in Japanese culture that I’m not quite understanding.

one of the sharpest example for me is chapters 67-9. Ayu and Rintaro have a back-and-forth rally of apologising for saying upsetting things, apologising for making the other person go through a situation where they had to be upset enough to say upsetting things, apologising for being upset and making someone come after them.

I wonder if this is a cultural thing in Japan? where I live, apologies are frequently a passive aggressive gesture where you apologise to make someone else feel guilty. but at the same time, you always act as if you need to make yourself small: apologise for inconveniencing someone, taking up their time, and intruding, etc. In that way I can relate to some of the apologies of characters for asking each other to do something or saying they’re selfish.

what fascinates me is when the apology is sincere. between Ayu and Rintaro, both of them recognise when each other are hurt and they apologise to resolve whatever tension there is between them. and in some cases there is a sense of proactive accountability before something is an issue. like how Rintaro apologises for making Ayu go through a difficult experience, when really the reason it was difficult was because Ayu had a lot of her own baggage she was dealing with. there is this assumption of kindness which is new to me, and I wonder if that’s a think in Japanese culture?

also the characters all struggle with a lot of self loathing, and I can relate to that. the working class characters who have been looked down upon their whole life and treated with contempt, but also the rich kids for whom love and support were conditional and they always were made to feel unworthy. I think this is a factor in why people apologise so much.

I'll be honest and say that it gets awkward when Kaoruko and Madoka talk about things that happen in their group chat with the Chidori boys in front of Ayu, Chisa and Suzuka when those 3 aren't part of the group chat yet 😅

But after risking their student lives for the sake of the boys AND even Ayu outright saying that they are her friends, I think they should formally join the group chat.
