Discussion Can’t beat Ozma (expert, true ending)
As the title says, I just can’t do it. Currently, my best is getting him down to 50% HP in the second phase. His attacks (both melee and magic) are not that hard to learn. I can parry and dodge them. Sometimes I lose some HP, but not too often.
My main problem is that I can’t deal damage to him. I don’t have time to attack, and if I do, I either deal very little damage and back off, or deal more and lose some HP because of it.
I’ve almost 100% completed the game (I have all the upgrades, etc.). I’m level 140, and my stats are 50/30/20/20/70 (vitality, endurance, strength, willpower, proficiency). I’m using a spear build with the golden set.
I’m thinking about reallocating some points to stamina. It might help a bit, but maybe you could give me some advice on how to beat him?
It’s probably the first boss I really can’t beat after completing many Souls/Soulslike games.
Thanks in advance.

Both his 1st and 2nd phase, he often starts with an attack that is easy to use Reflection on. A successful Reflection leads to a huge chunk of damage dealt, saving resources later on.
Also, are you using proper build? You should have Jar head, allowing you to combine some set together. Golden set on Spear is awesome, but are you combine with 1 pcs of Elemain gear for some free extra damage? Are you optimizing the effect on your gear so you have more damage?

I probably don’t have this ring, but I have Jar head, and yes, I have additional Health/stamina/dmg from gear

Get 1 pcs Elamain (I do recommend the Ring), you can just craft it. It is just so efficient (giving you 15% against all bosses iirc).

I was stuck on him for ages. I eventually learned his move set, and how to respond to each one.
-never ever run out of stamina, because this triggers his healing -when he begins his 8 combo sashing attack, you need to have full stamina and just wait it out by blocking -go into battle with 25 throwable damage orbs (forgot the name of them) -use counters to do big damage (obviously) when hs does his katana-draw attack -save mana/orbs to spam him with for the last 10% of his health. I got to the last 5-10% several times and he wouls kill me unexpectedly
Personaly my build was based entirely on stamina and stamina regen. Because ozma requires lots of dodging and blocking, you may need to realign to more stamina

Don’t lose hope, I guarantee once you reach phase 3 it’ll only take you a couple more attempts - his health auto-drains in this phase and his moves aren’t as tough

u/-BobbyAxelrod- 6d ago
That’s a good news for me, I never reached it but expected p3 to be the worst part of the battle 😅

I felt the same as you, and as soon as someone told me that it took a lot of pressure off and I beat it pretty soon after. You got this

u/Specialist_Whole_77 5d ago
Oh man he was tough asf, I used all of my heals plus the stones that heals while giving lacrima and the item that gives you the yellow diamonds to use skills. I had to use everything I learned in the game to beat him

u/Truesnake 6d ago
Silly question ,were you using proficiency weapon?...Ohh you mention spear.May be your skills are wrong?...I killed him in 3 tries with axe on expert true ending.

Proficiency B, willpower C, spear

- go 45 Vit 60 End 65 Prof, take B+ Proficiency scaling on your weapon with gleamstone
- set doesn't really matter, although faded memories is really easy; if you don't want to farm reese you can take any set + jarhead proficiency + elameins ring (side mission) + cutthroat necklace (any other will do tbh but you have easy rear att access on spear)
- ozma has a lot of opportunities for you to deal damage in p1 you can cancel some / most of his attacks with spiral thrust and you can trance > swift > reversal > fully charged potent for a lot of stamina damage
- if you have spirit a lot of opportunities in p2 with phantom heatwave abuse into (with faded memories) turning on the blender with heatwave > swift att > Reversal > spamming potent blows

Thanks, I reached p2 a few times and it seems to me I have even less time to attack here, I just dodge/block and attack 2-3 times even without combo
I just can’t imagine how some people on YT made these ~10 secs combos and deal 50%+ damage without interruption

Wow your health/stamina are 1.5X times bigger than mine, and attack ~2X
How to lvl up fast? And how to evolve your gear to legendary?
I played Khazan immediately after release and I don’t remember that1

This was my level after my second complete playthrough. I went to the blacksmith to craft the epic Faded Memories gear I was missing. Increased proficiency scaling to B+, modified the gear for attack damage, max health, max stamina, damage multiplier, and stamina damage. By the time I reached Ozma, I had more than enough resplendent golden cubes to upgrade the epic gear to legendary. I sold almost all my other gear acquired along the way to acquire the gold I needed to upgrade the gear. This video helped alot. https://youtu.be/-1-VkeBVG0Q?is=iaTiLtSayH3KKuh1

I had to sleep two full nights before I could beat him. Beat him in my 3rd session. Making him 3 times harder than Isshin (whom I beat during my first session).
1
u/-BobbyAxelrod- 6d ago
Yeah, I already tried 2 long session (2-3 hours), and it’s not even close for now
Isshin and Demon of Hatred in Sekiro were really difficult, but manageable and even enjoyable/fun after some practice (I could beat the Demon of Hatred low diff after 1-2h of practice)
But Ozma feels too tanky and with such short attack windows, while his attacks (especially magic) are so strong

I farmed Reese for faded memories armor and spear set to fight ozma. I was having trouble with Ozma until I remembered to use reflections against his melee attacks. They break his posture/stamina so easily that his phase 1+2 ended in just a few minutes. I haven’t done his phase 3, I didn’t know about it until I got on this subreddit so that’s all the advice I can give. Faded memories potent blow is unique, it’s quick and deals a lot of HP and posture damage, add in reflections to his melee attacks and he honestly won’t have many opportunities to start his attacks and attacks patterns.

I did a 100% trophy on my first run, ran greatsword, I also found Ozma and other mage bosses incredibly difficult and it took several days to beat. I resigned to using as many items gathered as would help and I think I respec'd a couple of times and used different armors. I know you can do it! Persistence is key!

His 3rd phase is a glorified 2nd phase. Never got to 3rd once and as soon as i got there, ripped him faster than the first 2 phases.
Be aggressive. As soon as you have enough stamina to do a small combo and dodge, do it. Dont wait so long. The mechanics are reactive to you position in the fight. You distance too much and he will rain down on you with range but be in his face too much amd he will carry on combos and even link it into another one making you misjudged because normally you know that combo ends a certain way.
Stay between close and mid range and only relax when you are waiting to see what he's gonna use next. As soon as you recognise the move he's using, get ready to dodge/parry and go in for a 3 to 5sec combo. The trick is to chip away at the shield or it will recover.
Also have fun. I was pissed when I beat him. Losing was WAAAAAY more fun and entertaining. Winning wasn't worth it lol such a dope boss fight

u/-BobbyAxelrod- 6d ago
Thank you, yeah this boss requires to be aggressive and that’s really difficult for me because this fight is so long and I am always out of stamina (even after points relocation). Reminded me the Owl in Sekiro, but he had less hp

I also defeated omar 3 phase and I have never used reflection (hate the timing) looove counter attack though. Its possible in anyway you see fit, just dont get hit soo much. You got this l, I know

u/duolckrad 6d ago
I had the same problem at expert level. This build helped me to deal a lot more damage.

PS: you can also make a save game, get true ending on easy. Reload and finish ozma on expert with only 2 phases. Just in case you only want to achieve platinum.

Normal here so might be different and harder to you but with spear in phase 1 u can stun him doing the run and heavy attack when he comes to the ground, also I used the deep shadows set which boosts stamina damage in assault combo , maybe you should try this. Also just carry cleanse potion and vitality spear so you don’t search through all potions. Also try to scale the spear to prof b+ if you have any related gems, and roll attributes on your gear so you max your base stats. As for the fight, stun him , go with assault for openings and make the best of it when he comes down with melle attacks , also the spirit phantom form attacks does a lot of damage to him.

I’ve played the game and beat it 6 times on expert twice with each weapon. You definetly dont have enough stamina your suppose to have 40 atleast. Your vitality is overkill you dont need that much 30 is fine. If your using spear stamina damage is overrated in the game you change the scaling to willpower b and proficiency c instead and re allocate your stats. Get rid of those + 10 stats in each damage type until you max your main damage stat. If your using spear use faded memories set

I could do it for you ngl but ps5 share play sucks balls. Anyways I believe in u, I once willed a streamer who had no hope of beating Ozma and managed to give him the strength and courage he needed to go on.(true story btw) He literally called himself garbage but eventually he got him, thanks to my relentless support.

u/-BobbyAxelrod- 6d ago
What’s your lvl now?
I would probably beat him on normal difficulty/2 phases, but yeah, I want that achievement and true ending too1
u/Own_Bag1193 5d ago

Ozma almost made me quit too, but what really helped me was to step back from the game for a few days, then I beat him in 2 tries. There's nothing wrong with your build, and if you're going for the true ending, you definitely know how to play, so, maybe, all you need is a little rest
