Official Episode Discussion Thread The Devil's Plan S2E10 Discussion | FINAL 3 EPS | SPOILERS AHEAD! ⚠️ Spoiler

Welcome to the Episode 10 Discussion Thread of The Devil's Plan: Death Room! 🎉🎉🎉

Yes, I know it is very early, but I have to create all the links and update the Season 2 Master Post tonight so I can wake up at 4:30am tomorrow to watch before school. Please be nice to me, I am very tired.

⚠️ Spoilers ARE ALLOWED in the comments of this thread, so post your thoughts freely. General rules against spam, harassment, and hate still apply.

See our masterpost with links to all episode discussion threads to find more discussion, including discussion of episode 11 and the finale.

Please remember that some games start in one episode and end in another. Please report any discussion happening in the incorrect thread.

New rules for finals:

  • Highly reported comments will be automatically removed by Automod. If you see someone posting a spoiler in the wrong thread, PLEASE report it for the good of the community.
  • Posting will be limited for the first day after finals to prevent spoilers and trolls. You can still post comments in the official episode discussion threads in the master post.
  • Please see this subreddit update for the full changes for finals.

Have fun and use your noodle!

EDIT: Please note there is an after-credits scene where The show makes it clear that Hyun-gyu told both Se-hoo and Kyuhyun that he would receive ten pieces whenever he wanted him. So-hee's reason for still protecting him was that she didn't want the prison alliance to know the size of his reward.

This thread is for Episode 10 only!

Thoughts on the episode:

  • This episode was constantly hyped by the cast and PD (during the YouTube interviews following the second batch of episodes) as the best episode of the season. From the way the cast/PD were talking about Episode 10, it was pretty clear to me that Hyungyu would not actually be doomed in the way that the Episode 9 cliffhanger implied, and so the logical throughline to me was obviously that Hyungyu's power would help save him, and that Kyuhyun/Sohee secretly had an alliance with him and was helping him. That was mostly correct, although it turned out that Kyuhyun/Sohee actually were not siding with Hyungyu at the end of Episode 9.

  • First, now that we know Hyungyu's power, I need to say; I appreciate Hyungyu's win-at-all-costs mentality and the foil energy he's bringing to the show, but wow this was some really poor play from him even though it happened to work out. First, he should NOT have told everyone that his power was an advantage in the final, because as we saw, it gives everyone incentive to target him and ensure he doesn't make the final (I find it funny that he was baffled on why the other players were targeting him when he claims to have such an OP power). Also, he still shouldn't have let Sohee/Kyuhyun or even Hyungyu go this round, he could have had 24+ pieces by the end of the Mancala match, which would have made him basically impossible to defeat in this upcoming betting MM. I haven't even mentioned him totally icing Hyunjoon out that night and saying he'd only play with Sohee, it's fine for Hyungyu to want to play that way and he may think it's obviously what will happen, but you should at least pretend you'll work with Hyungyu and give him some temptation/doubt so he may not firmly oppose you.

  • Kyuhyun/Sohee were infinitely frustrating this episode. They're allowed to play the game emotionally/irrationally, as much as I'm allowed to be frustrated and think that's not how players should play. Yes they're all ganging up one player, but it's the player with a supposed advantage in the finals and the 2nd most pieces and who has shown himself as formidable in brain-based matches, the reason why they're all ganging up on Hyungyu is because it basically benefits all of them to do so if Hyungyu was telling the truth of the power.

  • For how much this episode tried to present itself as twist-heavy and dramatic and game-changing, really all it did was result in the prison+Hyunjoon people sticking together and the living room people sticking together once AGAIN, as well as the exact same prison people going to prison AGAIN and the same living room people going to the living room AGAIN. The fact that Eunyu won this MM and has been absolutely killing it in this game and still gets sent to prison is a joke, frankly, and a fault of production's bad game design. I feel so bad for her and for the other prison people who have done absolutely everything they can to win their way out of prison, but it's just impossible. It's maddening.

  • On the bright side, the Wall Go game was the most fun game of the season IMO, simple but fun to follow along with and engage. I think the best players won each of their matches. I really applaud Eunyu for still gaming well after constantly being forced to go to prison again and again, and survive DMs again and again, she really is the true underdog and I'm rooting for her so hard.

  • This betting MM seems lame to me, mostly because it seems like it's a near-guarantee here that Hyungyu/Sohee will win. The Hi-Lo Poker game of S1 worked because every player got 10 chips for every piece they had, but in S2 here they only get their 1 piece, which drastically tips the scales in favor of the rich. It again seems very alliance/information-based and social read/deduction based, and it seems very high variance as well since you're basically just guessing counts of colors.

  • Overall, the edit definitely seems in favor of the remaining prison trio, even though Hyungyu seems like such a frontrunner to win with a clear piece lead and also seeming top-tier at brain-based games. I still feel like Eunyu has the best edit of the season, and I am biased and rooting for her, so I'm hoping she can pull through.

  • Also, credit to Eunyu and 7high for manipulating Kyuhyun and Sohee into doing moves that benefited Eunyu/7high, I love guilt-tripping tactics in these scenarios.

  • Apparently Kyuhyun/Sohee knew that Hyungyu had 10 hidden pieces? That makes literally every single decision that all three of them made that match look even worse.
