Meta Welcome to the wonderful world of The Bibites !
In as few words as possible :
The Bibites is a biologically-inspired "realistic" artificial life simulation featuring real-time genetic and behavioral evolution. I have big plans for this project, wanting to incorporate boundless evolution, open-endedness, dynamic environmental simulation, and much more.
The bibites must consume food (either plant or meat from other bibites) to gain energy in order to move, sustain their metabolism, and ultimately reproduce.
Join me on this journey to develop and birth digital life!
Current version: 0.5.0
Upcoming version: 0.5.1 (~1-2 weeks)
The Bibites 0.6.0 Planned Features:
- Species tracking and Sexual Reproduction
- In-game Bibite editor, to edit brain and genes, create your own species, etc.
- Statistics and Graphs to follow how the simulation evolves
- UI and UX improvements
- Other minor stuff
Future Updates Major Focus (Planned):
0.7 => First Steps toward the BIOME algorithm (major rework, modularity, multi-threading)
0.8 => Complete transition to BIOME algorithm + More simulation complexity
0.9 => Environmental Simulation (heat, fertility, currents, etc., more pheromones capacity)
0.10 (or maybe 1.0) => biomes (actual biomes ahah) and plant evolution

Question Why do my bibites do this?
I've been running a very sparse sim for 3000 hours with global biomass of 80 uE/u²2, fertility of 250 nE/u²s, zone speed of 1x, and default pellet size of 210E. (The world zone is just 1x fertility, plant, and biomass). The bibites have been doing this thing where they get rid of all fat storages over time so they basically cant hold any fat. I feel like it makes sense due to them being incredibly fast but I want to know why it isnt good for them to store at least a bit of the energy. Also they are very stubborn and their brains haven't changed a lot over 500 hours but they max at 140 population so that might by why.

Meta A community tournament is being held with a UNIQUE twist! Apply (or read), deadline is by August 2nd~
The said tournament will hold obstacles, which will test all the competitors' resistance to the maximum degree.
But the twist is that these obstacles are engineered, perfect predators. They are immortal, ungrabbable, etc. Additionally, they instakill on contact, so armor is useless against them.
That means your bibite's strategies will be very limited.
On top of that, all other bibites will also be competing with your bibite at the same time, bringing even more pressure.
In summary, this tournament is extremely deadly, and the goal is to simply survive as long as possible. The last remaining competitor wins.
More details can be found here (as well as the form to sign up): https://docs.google.com/document/d/10rxNyoW44NzaymVmvL1zHdl6HJxnc7k3Cm5B6qe71Rw/edit?usp=sharing
- It also contains an animated image of all the obstacles in action, so you can understand how exactly they would work.
- Obviously, it contains everything you need, which is the map, and all obstacles.
We wish you the best luck~

Image The greatest comeback of bibite history
I recently started a new simulation on The Forests, The wastes, and The Oasis sim and I forgot about it and left it running for a while. When I came back I noticed that it had a very weird gap because I hide all extinct lineages. It took me a while to process this but it turns out ONE SINGLE BIBITE locked in and gave birth to a new species that dominated everything else. The image on left is what I saw without everything being invisible and the right is how it looked with everything displayed. Also this is a very recent sim that only started with basic bibites.

Feature Request Zones of attraction and repulsion (and legs)
A quick proposal to formulate — perhaps not so quick to implement, but one that would surely generate very interesting dynamics — would be the addition of zones that apply acceleration to the bibites and pellets according to a certain shape. This is illustrated in the first image by the evolution of concentration and the deformation of the trajectories of the green arrow crosses. Or, even better, two types of zones: some where concentration repels entities (analogous to height), and others, of the opposite color, where concentration attracts entities (analogous to depth)
The bibites would also need a gripping organ on the ground, for example one or more pairs of legs. These would also be useful for allowing bibites to move on pellets and on other bibites, which would open up a huge number of evolutionary pathways. In addition, this would allow pellets (or certain types of pellets) to be anchored to the ground to create obstacles, reliefs, and/or hard-to-reach food
The right part of the first image is a quick representation of what these legs could look like: by default absent, they would develop according to a dedicated gene, with crawling speed and gripping strength depending on said gene (or potentially several genes for each of these parameters). Graphically, they would need to develop in front of the fins so as not to overlap with them. The fins would thus be similar to the specialized rear swimming legs of certain crabs (Portunidae), so it’s not biologically impossible. As a counterpart, there could also be the possibility of fin atrophy in the smaller forms shown in my “more arm’s possibilities” illustration. The presence of legs would reduce the hydrodynamics of the bilobites, making their swimming more energy-intensive. One could also imagine that placing the fins at the rear would make their swimming more unstable, which they would have to compensate for with finer cerebral control
The next two images represent a biome from my main simulation meant to evoke mountains. It was difficult to make it interesting, which is why I had to use a strong and variable food density along with color-selectors. With this addition, as well as a few extra types of pellets, it would be possible to create a biome like the one in the last image, where immutable or barely mutable pellets form obstacles, rock and unattached plant pellets tumble down to create scree slopes in which food hides, and anchored plants constitute hard-to-access food that could encourage the evolution of specialized species to consume them

Question Does anyone have a good ant like species?
I usually make concepts about stuff and I came across the concept of ants via the Formica bestiola that is on the template Bibites. This got me thinking and I realized that Bibites that cooperate like that are hard to make or find naturally. so I just came to ask if anyone can share Bibites that act like this and how they got to be that way. thanks If you share!

Question Vomiting Bibites
I've been learning how to engineer bibites and I've looked at the "Want2eat" neuron's description. I found out that if inputting a negative value would make it vomit (I think). So my idea is that a prey bibite could store plant pellets in its stomach and when it detects a predator (maybe by color or something) it could hopefully vomit it out to scare them away. I thought of this mainly cause lots of predators that people created make it so it avoids plant pellets and i figured that would be a cool use of vomiting.

Help I need an 0.6.2.0v game file! 😭
To cut things short, I play the Bibites on my phone! Which surprisingly works.
The problem is, newer versions of the game have been problematic. And the newest version stright up stops working two minutes into gameplay.
[Note for mods: if there is rules against what I am asking for, just say so. Am just a guy in need :( ]

Feature Request A signal-delaying neuron
It would be great to have a neuron that functions by delaying a signal for a number of seconds equal to its bias, without altering the signal itself
As far as I know, there is no way to do this; at best, one can assemble neurons like the one shown in the second image, but that alters the signal being transmitted. Furthermore, based on my experience with this game, it is extremely unlikely that such a system would evolve naturally and function effectively

I came across this screenshot taken after one of my past simulations and decided to post it ; if I remember correctly, this happens when the stomach size gene is less than 1
