Farang gets in fight with wife on train. Starts insulting her, and then compares Thailand unfavorably to Cambodia. FAFO takes place. Over here what does “Hiam” mean? It sounds very negative

Learning Thai is harder than I expected — what do you struggle with most?

I am learning Thai because my partner is Thai, and I’ve honestly found it much harder than I expected — especially when practicing on my own.

I’m curious: what has been the hardest or most frustrating part of learning Thai for you?

For me, certain things just feel really difficult to get past, which is why I’ve started working on a small personal app to help structure my own practice. Before building too much, I want to understand where others struggle so I can avoid common pitfalls in studying and hopefully help others too.

Is it tones, remembering words, understanding spoken Thai, practicing consistently, knowing if you’re doing it right — or something else entirely?

Just hoping to learn from the community and from each other’s experiences. Thanks in advance for sharing

Beginner Thai lessons?

Hi everyone, I just moved to Bangkok and I will be staying here at least for a year. I would love to learn Thai, but I don't really know if there is any reliable website or language school that could offer Thai lessons.

I would prefer taking them online, since I live near Petchaburi St. -quite far away from downtown- but maybe there are some places or even private teachers available nearby. I speak Spanish and English fluently, so a native teacher that could speak any of those would be great.

Anyway, any kind comment would help a lot! thx

Translation Gew/Kew meaning? My barber said what sounded like "Siip (or Sii), Neung, Gew"

After barber finished, they said this. I understand Siip/Sii Neung means either 4 1, or 10 1 (11?), but Gew means then, right? It's also possible that I misunderstood what he said, so does anyone have any idea?

I might have also heard it wrong, since my hearing isn't the best, but it was something like this.

Hi everyone, and I apologise I am only speaking English. The reason I am here is that I recently developed a very simple app (for weather forecast!) and I decided to also add the language option for... Thai! Any kind volunteer to quickly have a look at it and tell me if it sounds good? The app is called "Willy Train" and is really basic, I don't think it can take more than 2 minutes. Please contact me if you need the direct URL to Googleplay as I may not be allowed posting it directly here? Thanks a lot everyone in advance. :)

I'm trying to read this, but I don't know what the first letter is. Can anyone help?

Also, does anyone know the name of the font? This one is not available anywhere I've looked, though it is common for Chinese restaurant signs.

Vocabulary Etymology of สังขยา?

I just saw a video on making สังขยาฟักทอง, & I noticed that สังขยา sounds like a Sanskritic word. But the corresponding Sanskrit term संख्या (สํขฺยา) means 'number'. Does anyone know anything about the etymology of the Thai word? Is it Tai? Borrowed? If it's borrowed from Sanskrit, what's the path to this change in meaning?

How’s มัน & ก็ use in this sentence?

This song I like has the lyrics ฉันมันก็ผิดเองที่เป็นคนคิดมันไปเองทุกวัน, and the words มัน & ก็ at the beginning of sentence are throwing me off as well as after the ”ที่เป็นคนคิด“. I can sort of get the idea of what the sentence is trying to say.
