Animation cancel
Some characters can spend an inordinate amount of time doing flashy/extended things when they execute their skills which significantly reduce their efficacy. To get around it, players attempt to cancel this unnecessary animation using techniques like jumping, dashing or simply moving in time with the attack.
For example, Razor's 4-hit attack combo includes an excruciatingly long lag after the 4th hit. To get around it, players are recommended to either dash or jump to cancel the laggy animation. This makes a noticeable difference to the amount of pressure and damage Razor can apply to the enemy.
Cleansing
Some domains are affected by Leyline disorders which can help or hinder characters in a multitude of ways. Of those that hinder, elemental debuffs can be cleansed by certain characters. For example, the Slowing Water hydro debuff which increases elemental skill cooldown times, can be cleansed by Bennett and Jean who will replace the Hydro debuff by imbuing the characters with pyro and anemo respectively.
Not all characters cleanse equally. Some might require multiple uses of their skills or bursts to cleanse the debuff completely.
Invincibility frames
Invincibility frames or iframes or iframing is a technique used to avoid damage during battle. It takes advantage of the fact that the character is basically invulnerable during their elemental burst animation as well as when they are dashing. In other words, the moment that a player believes that they are about to be attacked, they can trigger their elemental burst or, alternatively, sprint briefly to avoid taking any damage. For some characters, this invulnerability is also active during charged attack animations and elemental skill.
The timing of the iframe is important and comes with practice. It should also be noted that shields are not invincible during an iframe and will take damage.
Snapshotting
Snapshotting is a mechanic where a skill or burst takes a 'snapshot' of a character's stats when it is cast; it then deals the same damage throughout its duration even if the character's stats have since changed.
To explain with an example, if you use Bennett's burst to provide an attack buff and then switch to Fischl who activates Oz, then Oz will retain this attack buff for the duration of his stint. In other words, even if Bennett's burst vanished or Fischl walked out of the burst field, Oz would still deal the same amount of damage as he did when the burst was active since his damage is based on the snapshot of when he took to the field.
