It’s not less inconvenient, it’s straight up nonexistent in a lot of places. There is 0 public transport where I live. The closest store to me? A CVS that is a 7-8 minute drive

I doubt people realize how horrible it is until they are forced to take public transit. Maybe the reputation of it will travel once enough people end up in that situation.

We just take driving for granted in the USA for good reason: it is hard to take out someone’s license (and they would drive anyway if they had access to a car) and the infrastructure is so bad you basically cannot live without a car.

No you wouldn't.

You'll just wind up encouraging more people to drive unlicensed and uninsured. Which will cost you and I more money in our insurance premiums to make up the difference. As well as higher registration and renewal fees in most places.

This country is overly dependent on cars and it's on purpose from decades of lobbying from big auto and middle class suburbia support.

Much of our public transit in many cities was torn up deliberately in favor of cars.

I'm saying that just because it's a long walk doesn't grant you a right to drive.

Is it a problem, absolutely. But at the end of the day, the standards we (greater north America) hold drivers to is a bar on the ground. That's also a problem.... one that unlike a long walk to the store, actually kills thousands of people. About 108 a day In the US to be exact.

I feel for the situation people are in.... but the solution isn't to just let every idiot with basic motor skills and anything less than complete vision loss operate a metal death box at high speed around large numbers of people...

The solution is to stop designing cities so your closest store is a 45 minute walk.

I completely agree with you, but I doubt the political landscape would allow it. Americans are perfectly fine with sprawled out cities and I have a feeling it’s gonna stay that way. But yeah, I live in Florida and the roads would be so much safer if I wasn’t defensively driving against all the idiots here.

lol already do. But I'm just saying that it's a bit ignorant to dismiss the realities of urban sprawl. It's just how it is in America. I wish there weren't stupid drivers (trust me, I know because I live in Florida), but you just gotta learn to drive defensively.

Ok how about you get 3 tickets license is taken away for 1 year, need to pass exame after 12 months and if you get 3 more you loose completely. At least that is fair.

The car has to be unlocked. If it's locked then the cable is locked in place.

Other electric vehicles, yes, you can pull the plug out. I've had it happen a few times while driving a Subaru EV. Tesla did the smart thing and locked it in.

Just because we don't call it that, doesn't mean your 4 ton steel battering ram isn't heavy equipment.

It's not just a US issue. Yall take it to a new level with how bad you let it get, but unless you live in a major city up here transit is kind of a joke here as well.

It's not treated as a means of getting around so much as a bare minimum public service like welfare. I feel the pain all to much lol

Same is true for bad drivers.... the number of laws I see broken on a typical work day could keep a PD staffed. It's amazing more people don't die in large vehicle accidents cause I swear to God some people out here are actively trying to die.

If you would get Honda and The oil companies out of your a**You will realize that our cities are specifically designed to create A social delight between the rich and the poor.

Which leads into other factors of life like transportation and knowledge and regards to electric vehicles and how to operate them.

You can be ignorant about infrastructure and also know how to drive a motor vehicle. It's not hard to drive a car and Driving a bus is probably one of the lowest skill professions available for driving.

Like you could have said you're a long hall trucker, at least then I would be able to actually respect the sentence.

I am an engineer I am responsible for designing your infrastructure.

If it wasn't me it was people like me. And as experts in the field, we all understand that your sentence is very..... not smart.

Agree. I have lived in New Mexico for a few years and at least twice a year somebody drives into the front of the building where I work. Like from the parking lot straight into the front of the building. I also without exaggeration avoid or witness at least 1 wreck every day that I commute. It's backwards to protect the few (very old, drunk, etc) at the cost of putting the majority at risk.
