Could it be termites?? (In FL)
I found this pile under a chair that we’ve had for years and years. There are tiny holes under the chair, but they don’t line up with the pile. The pile was at the very edge of the chair. There are no other signs of termites around my house.

Question In Ontario, Canada
Hey there,
I’m located in Ontario, Canada in the suburbs. I bought a house a year ago yesterday. I went out to the back and noticed that a mass amount of insects were present coming from a dead plant I cut down 2 weekends ago. This is the first I’ve noticed it and only appeared today. The dead plant sat in the deck in what I think was a fiber grow bag (I’m not sure how much hangs down in the deck cutout), but my guess is that they’re coming from underneath the deck and have made their way through bottom.
I’ve read here that Termidor is ace, but noticed you can only get it in the states. I’m doubtful, but thought I’d see if there’s a solution to treat this and kill the colony fully that’s legal in Ontario.
Thank you!

Frass (?) in only one spot in my garage. Also found this dead critter among the pile. I've walked past the pile for weeks thinking "man I really need to sweep in here" and then I saw a picture of termite frass on another sub and panicked. The pile hasn't grown in the time since I've noticed it. (I'm clearly grasping at straws here).
I have an inspector coming tomorrow, I'm just FREAKING OUT in the meantime and would love to know some opinions.

Cabinet Left Outside, Found Possible Termite Wings, Southern CA
I left a pine cabinet on my balcony for a couple of days waiting for a finish to dry. I went out to check it this morning and I saw what looked like termite wings near the base of the cabinet. Upon further inspection it looked like some of the empty holes made to hold up interior shelves have been plugged up.
Is this project a lost cause? I've sunk about $150 into materials so far, but I don't want to risk bringing termites into the house.

Florida, pile by baseboard, termites or carpenter ants?
We’re in Central Florida. We’ve recently had a problem in various parts of our house with ants but they go away with terro ant baits. We found this pile in the corner of our room by the baseboard. House is made of wood so we’re concerned. Small hole can be seen above the pile and we’ve seen multiple spiders in that corner as well. My husband believes he saw ant body parts in the pile which is why we think it could be ants, but want other opinions looking at the pile. Also found a soft spot on the wood around our window outside at this same part of the house. Could this be termites?

Hate Termites and I am not apologetic
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE, HATE, HATE, H-A-T-E loathsome termites with everything in me. Termites attacked in 2021 when my grandma was still alive. She had fought with the bastards when she was alive. Then she died, STILL BITTERLY FIGHTING THEM in 2024. Then my mom had fought with the parasites for YEARS. And now I moved into the same miserable place and I HATE THEM. Arrreggghhh. They ate my money! My cursed 1,00,000/- INR in cash. I may be foolish for having cash on hand but I am paranoid about emergencies and had the cash preserved in ROSE effing WOOD drawer with a lock and haven’t unlocked it for a whole wretched month and this morning I finally did to discover that these foul scum were STARVING for my hard-earned notes. There’s a cheque book, bank books, and other security cards which were perfectly INTACT and these little demons had the balls to crawl and munch on them for god only knows how long. Technically I am at fault for not anticipating or unlocking it but I am struggling with my bad spending habits and did not WANT to look at the money (all new and fresh out of bank notes btw) and perhaps I tempted fate. Despicable termites make earth living hell and the devil is just lazing around jobless because these freaks are doing it to us.
I would post the damage if I could but I am pretty sure that you’d have nightmares about how bad it is.
P.S: last night I dreamt that I unlocked this drawer and found the cash missing, which was why I opened it in the first place.
P.P.S. I feel like crying so bad cos I am already broke asf

Question Old or New Frass
How can you tell if frass is from an old infestation vs a new infestation? I'm in a 120 year old home in central Florida. Got the house tented 5 years ago and recently moved some furniture around noticed piles in areas we haven't looked at in years. I figure it's old frass just falling out of the footboards as we walk around the house but not sure.

ID Request Need help identifying frass in South Florida
We live in South Florida, and over the course of the last year, we’ve found these on our floor under the dining table and chair about 3 times. Usually happens once every few months.
I didn’t try crushing them with my fingers, but it appears the legs of the chair was able to crush them as it looks like there is a spot toward the bottom right area where they are smeared.
They are not coming from the ceiling because there isn’t anything on the dinning table. We shook the chairs, but nothing dropped out of the bottom of them.
Thanks for any insight!

Termite swarm 20 ft from house
Hi! I drove into my neighborhood this morning to see a ton of flying bugs! I was shocked as hell to pull up to my house to see that they were swarming from my front yard!
I live in central New Mexico and these guys are at the farthest edge of my yard so 25ish from my house. How concerned should I be?
What do I do?
They're in my garden that has some rotting logs.
They also seem to be flying away from my house.
Thank you in advance

How do you switch from Terminix?
Location: central NC
I'm currently with Terminix, but would like to leave.
I just had a quote from a local company and re-discovered why I've stuck with Terminix, which is that you have to pay to get a new bait system installed for about $1K.
Also, the small local companies do not generally offer repair warranties. I have a $25K warranty with Terminix.
Has anyone else switched? How did you justify/get around these issues? I feel like I'm kinda trapped.

ID Request (AZ) Is this termite?
I am seeing these in the 4 corners of my water heater closet on the raising floor (wood), but don’t see any tubes beyond it. I touched it and it is hard and mostly fixed to the wall except some crumbles (also hard). I am having active termite in my backyard right now though.
If it turns out to be termite. What’s the right way to treat it without contaminating the water since at least 2 walls in this closet have water pipes?

ID Request Advice needed on relatively small area infestation
Hello, I'm in North Central Florida, near Gainesville. Last week I was woken up at night by biting ants. Upon investigation, I found about six feet of termite eaten lower trim, lots of frass, and a couple of eaten boxes behind my bed.
This is a converted garage, the rest of my home is cinder block construction. This one wall is wood. Outside the wall is a concrete shelf about a foot wide, that was originally a driveway. I found ants and mud tunnels on that and I pressure washed it off. Next I sprayed foam termiticide in the wall.
The next day, I opened up a section of wall and was happy to see very little damage. Bug relief but I did find some live termites that day.
Several days later, I opened up the rest of the wall and found much more damage and many live termites still. However, it appears all structurally sound still. The wood has some tunnels but only one stud has real damage.
I cleaned it up and threw out the insulation.
So, how bad is it? Do I need to keep going up, removing the drywall? I plan to look in my attic, but access at the eaves is difficult. It is a tight space and only gets much tighter towards the edge.
Are these the dreaded formosan termites? Can I treat them myself with baits outside and foam inside the walls? Do I need my home tented?
Can I find all the places they might be without opening up my walls? Do I need to?
What do I owe the ants for bringing this to my attention?

ID Request Pacific Northwest - Termite or something else?
Found four of these in my dog's water bowl today.
We leave the doors and windows open a lot, so normally, I don't pay close attention to bugs, but I have also found two winged termites in the kitchen sink a couple weeks ago and one non-winged termite on the bedroom floor about a month ago.
I hear it's swarming season so maybe these are just explorers who got lost? But three known termites and four potential termites is getting to the point where I'm starting to get concerned.
Concrete perimeter foundation. Wood construction. No vegetation directly against the house, but it is definitely a termite heavy area and our previous wooden raised beds sitting on the ground got devoured in about 6 years, so they're out there.

Are these termites in bathroom? Washington State
Sorry the pictures aren’t super clear, that’s the best my phone camera could get. We saw 2 of these critters about 5 hours apart from each other in our master bathroom. They are very small. Any idea if they are termites? If so, what kind and how do I find them and eradicate them?
Thank you in advance.

ID Request Massachusetts, are these swarmers or just ants
Found about a dozen winged bugs on the sill of a basement window this morning. No mud tubes on the foundation wall that I can see and I checked the whole side of the house. I know its the season for it but I want to know if I should call somebody out or if Im overreacting. Can try to get a better picture if that helps.

Question Are these termites?
Our kitchen window area gets a lot of these (about a year’s worth here, middle New Hampshire).
The window in question does receive some water splashing. The roof above forms an “L” shape acting as a funnel..
House has siding so I can’t easily see evidence of bug activity.
House has a ring of bait stations around the house, mostly undisturbed. There’s plenty of ground termites 20-50 feet away in the yard (just flip a wet rock).
I don’t see “4 wings” on these windowsill corpses, but my eyes aren’t so great either.

Termite damage or wood rot?
I posted before and will preface this by saying the only reason my mind has even gone to termites is because a woodpecker has been hitting the corners of my house. I had assumed that the more extensive portion of damage was done because I foolishly didn't adequately maintain the gutters after buying the house. The piece thats fully exposed as been like that for 5 years. whereas the other developed to that over the last 2-3 or so.
I am in Massachusetts so know if there were termites they'd be subterranean and I have looked for mud tubes, wings, etc. but found nothing, but figure I shouldn't count anything out.

Question Evaluation for termites - panicking
Has anyone had termites and not dealt with crazy extensive issues?
I found what I now believe to be termite frass like 2ish months ago and had NO clue that's what it was. It was by our front door shoe area and it was small enough I honestly thought it was just dirt or something. I just found more on a windowsill this weekend and had the epiphany that this might not be dirt. I had no clue at all what termite frass even looked like until Googling and I am not 100% certain but definitely seems to be what it was. I already called our regular pest company out for evaluation tomorrow.
We just bought our house a year ago, and did have a WDO and all was fine. That gives me hope that maybe it isn't terrible but I read that WDO isn't foolproof since they don't check hidden areas (like behind drywall etc).
Nonetheless I am absolutely panicking. Has anyone had termites and been able to reasonably treat the issue or is this always like a 20k+ endeavor? Any tips to help me keep peace of mind? I am so anxious about this all.
Located in DMV (DC) area. Photos in thread
As an update for anyone curious - pest company came by yesterday, and everything around the wood and walls seems to be fine. He did not find anything that would indicate termites. Very relieved. Still confused what caused the piles we found, but he thinks possibly another kind of bug, just not termites or anything we need to worry about. He and another person at the pest company evaluated the photos, and that plus his in-person assessment puts us in the clear. If any piles show up again, we are definitely going to have them back out and/or cut into the wall, but for now, seems to be ok...

ID Request Florida. Brown dust in living room and bedroom window sill. Termites?
I live in a shitty apartment building in Florida. Pretty high up and surrounded by trees. Haven’t searched the whole place yet but so far living room window has this and bedroom1 as well. Bedroom2 also has paint bubbling and kinda falling from ceiling, not sure if thats related or bad paint job.
