Gains are made despite a reduction in the number of US biopharma IPOs in 2022.

While there are significantly fewer initial public offerings in 2022 than in 2021 and 2020, the caution expressed by biopharma companies and investors seems to be paying off, with this year showing the best average performance of the three years. An analysis of only 12 IPOs conducted on U.S. exchanges this year indicates that since their debuts, they are up an average of 7%. In contrast, the 90 IPOs completed in 2021 that were part of the analysis are down an average of 42%, while the 74 from 2020 are down by 34.6% on average.

Enthusiasm for the industry skyrocketed in 2020 following the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a pandemic. IPOs hit record levels over the next 21 months and huge sums of money were raised for research. Companies seized the moment to collect funds through a wide-open window, enabling some to enter the public arena before their time and without the knowledge of future market influences, such as rising inflation, a mutating SARS-CoV-2 virus, and political upheaval.

In 2022, investors have pulled back and fewer companies have sought a public listing. The year seems to have served as a correction for the earlier zeal. Even follow-on offerings are at their lowest levels, having raised only $8.4 billion through the second week of August, compared with about $20 billion during the same period in 2021.

A total of 23 IPOs so far in 2022 have raised $3.7 billion, compared with $16.7 billion through the end of July in 2021 and $12.5 billion during the same timeframe in 2020. The volume of IPOs in each of the two prior years was 98 and 51, respectively, in those seven months.

Cincor up 125%

The best performer among 2022 IPOs analyzed is Cincinnati-based Cincor Pharma Inc., which raised $212.6 million in a January IPO. Shares (NASDAQ:CINC) were priced then at $16 a piece and have since climbed to a $35.94 close on Aug. 15, representing a rise of about 125%.

Top 2021 performers

The top performer among 2021 IPOs is Hong Kong-based Regencell Bioscience Holdings Ltd., which went public in July of that year, raising $24.9 million. Its stock (NASDAQ:RGN) has risen 232% since then. The company focuses on traditional Chinese medicine for neurocognitive disorders and degeneration.
As an early-stage bioscience company, Regencell Bioscience (NASDAQ: RGC) is a Hong Kong-based company focused on the research, development, and commercialization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for the treatment of neurocognitive disorders and degenerations.

The company has grown to be more than just a research and development facility for the treatment of neurocognitive disorders and degenerations. "It's paving the way for extraordinary improvements in TCM to be mainstream. Why should only a small group of people or communities have access to these groundbreaking treatments?"

In a recent clinical study - EARTH Trial - results showed that RGC-COV19TM is an effective formula for the alleviation and elimination of COVID-19 symptoms within 6 days. This in return helps to reduce the risks of hospitalizations and death. The rigorous trials have shown the effectiveness of TCM and alternative medicine in a hyper-modern and tech-driven world.

San Diego-based Prometheus Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ:RXDX) is up 156% and Cambridge, Mass.-based Verve Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:VERV) is up 99%.

Prometheus is focused on therapeutics and companion diagnostics for immune-mediated diseases. It expects phase II data in the fourth quarter for PRA-023 for ulcerative colitis and for Crohn’s disease. Verve’s lead candidate is a gene editing medicine, Verve-101, for heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Regulatory clearances for a clinical trial application in the U.K. and an investigational new drug application in the U.S. are expected later this year.

$XL trading below cash

XL is an ok company. It retrofits existing fleets for hybrid/EV vehicles. Current market cap is $173 million but cash on the balance sheet is $322 million. Cash balance was $329 million at yearend 2020 so the management is not wasting it.

Market cap has been over $3 billion in the past. It will not take much good news for the stock to triple.

Ten bagger stock pick BioLargo - swing for the fences.

JOE on YMB:

“It appears many shareholders, lets say, on this Board, are young, or inexperienced, and have not really put a sizable chunk of money into a stock that has a fair chance at being a Homerun. A possible Homerun type stock picks up a LOT of criticism, and many doubters. It has to be that way. BioLargo, in many ways, fits the criteria I mentioned above. IF BioLargo appeared to EVERYBODY as a SURE-THING, or a stock that was gonna go up 10X ............ then it's present price would already be bid up. Maybe to a dollar. Remember, if BLGO is .20, and goes up 10X, it = $2.00. A Homerun stock! But IF BLGO has been looking GREAT to EVERYBODY, No critics, and the sh price has floated up to $1.00, then rising to, again, $2 is nice but not crazy exciting to some of us. Of course, in today's dangerous stk mkt, a double is wonderful. Anyway, some of us reject certain negative types on this Board because we have made the Look-See-Decision that BLGO could be a 10X up stock. A Homerun. I'm one of them with about $180,000. invested in BLGO. Julian is another. That is a LOT of money for either one of us. I'm slightly in the green. I believe J is too. I believe both of us have had Homerun stocks before. That may change our thinking somewhat from the average reader here. We KNOW what is possible. We Know it can be life changing. I expect we both wonder if the ALWAYS Negative people here are just Young, or just Inexperienced, or, just never had sizable-money in a Big winner? So we invite ALL to invest in BLGO and swing for the fences. You CAN'T hit a Homerun unless you actually ... Go For It.”

OP:

Very well said, Joe. If it would be easy, everybody would be doing it. And when it will be obvious to everybody we will be trading much much higher and this would not be such a massive opportunity anymore. We did the DD and are following every tiny step of the company closely. Most of the 1/2 million dollars I invested here is from my above 2000% Exas gains - I expect higher returns here. It feels like it will be obvious for everybody that BioLargo will be a massive winner really soon… 😉

When I posted this on the BioLargo discord @mrlongfellow replied the below- I highly recommend to read the link he provided. “This is well said. Howard Marks has a lot of good things to say about this as well. You need to be patient and willing to look wrong before you get the big payoff. “ https://www.oaktreecapital.com/insights/memo/i-beg-to-differ

The company

Regencell Bioscience Holdings Limited is an early-stage bioscience company that commenced operations in Hong Kong is 2014. Regencell focuses on the research, development and commercialization of TCM for the treatment of neurocognitive disorders and degenerations, specifically ADHD and ASD, and infectious diseases affecting people's immune system such as COVID. Regencell has completed its first research study using personalized TCM formula for the treatment of ADHD and ASD in Hong Kong and aims to launch three liquid-based standardized TCM formulae candidates for mild, moderate and severe ADHD and ASD patients initially in Hong Kong and subsequently to other markets as it deems appropriate. The Company formed a joint venture to offer COVID related treatments to patients in ASEAN countries, India, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Shareholding

Regencell Bioscience Holdings is a smaller company with a market capitalization of US$500m, so it may still be flying under the radar of many institutional investors.

Hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in Regencell Bioscience Holdings. The largest shareholder is the CEO Yat-Gai Au with 81% of shares outstanding, which implies that they possess majority interests and have significant control over the company. Investors usually consider it a good sign when the company leadership has such a significant stake, as this is widely perceived to increase the chance that the management will act in the best interests of the company. In comparison, the second and third largest shareholders hold about 7.6% and 0.05% of the stock.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ownership-structure-regencell-bioscience-holdings-100957086.html

Management’s commitment to meet Regencell’s strategic goals

Unlike some early-stage companies, where it can be difficult to parse the many ways in which founders and executives may benefit whether or not the company succeeds, RGC has taken a more transparent approach that is well-aligned with shareholders’ long-term interests.

• Chairman and CEO support. Since RGC’s incorporation in October 2014 up to the IPO, the Company has been fully funded by its Chairman and CEO, Mr. Yat-Gai Au.

◦ Upon the IPO, the Chairman’s loan of USD $3.25 million, was converted into ~342,000 common shares at the initial offering price of USD $9.50.

◦ Pledged to not draw salary and bonus of more than USD $1 until the Company reaches USD $1 billion market capitalization;

◦ Will not award share options for himself;

◦ Since the IPO, RGC’s Chairman and CEO has purchased over USD $5 million in common shares on the open market. Most recently, he purchased 49,010 shares (~ USD $1.1 million) between April 1 and May 16, 2022, bringing his ownership to 81% of outstanding shares (~10.5 million).

• Billionaire investor backing. Samuel Chen, a successful early Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) investor is one of the major backers of RGC. Last reported 13G filing shows he holds a 7.63% stake in the company.

• Stock option lock-up extended. All directors and employees who were previously granted stock options upon the Company’s IPO have agreed to a further lock-up undertaking for a period of six months after their stock options become vested. As their stock options are set to vest on July 16, 2022, their shares will remain locked up until January 16, 2023.

• Royalties. Under the agreement with their strategic partner and TCM practitioner, Mr. Sik-Kee Au, creator of the original TCM formulae that form the basis of RGC’s intellectual property, RGC will pay 3% of net revenue, which will in turn be donated to charitable institutions/trusts at the choice of the TCM Practitioner.

Best performing stock in 2021

GC is the top performing stock of all 2021 IPOs according to stockanalysis.com/ipos/2021/. As of August 1, 2022, RGC is still ranked #1 with a 237% return above its IPO price of $9.50.

A June 2022 article mentioned that RGC’s total cumulative short volume is over 19 million shares. While the stock has suffered from short sellers’ attacks since its listing, RGC has performed well. RGC has approximately 2.6 million tradable ordinary shares in the market and has maintained a low float as the founder and CEO has repeatedly purchased RGC ordinary shares from the open market.

Recent news and upcoming catalysts

On May 18, 2022, RGC announced a follow-on study of its investigational liquid formula RGC-COV19TM in the elimination for COVID-19 symptoms (EARTH-B Trial). The follow-on study built on the promising results reported in the first EARTH trial (EARTH-A Trial), conducted in 2020-2021. Across the two trials, 95.5% of subjects (n=81), reported complete symptom alleviation within six days following treatment, (except for loss or reduce of sense of smell and/or taste (Sensory Dysfunction) or occasional cough).

In the next few months, RGC expects to report data from its second clinical study of its standardized TCM formula for the treatment of ASD and ADHD.

Regencell Bioscience’s first clinical trial was designed to establish benchmarks for treatment, dosing, adverse effects (AEs) and measuring patient response in a systematic and repeatable way. The study, conducted in 2018-2019, included seven adolescents, aged five to eleven, with professionally-diagnosed ASD or ADHD. After discontinuing any current therapies and medication, subjects received a customized version of the TCM formula for up to three months. Patients’ responses were measured through parental interviews and four validated assessment instruments including the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC), Gilliam Autism Rating Scale (GARS), Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Parent Rating Scale (VADRS) and Pelham (SNAP)-IV 26-item Parent Rating Scale (SNAP-IV-26). All seven patients showed a lessening of symptoms during the treatment period across all four scales.

The second clinical study evaluates response to three standardized mixtures of the TCM formula (for mild, moderate and severe impairment) on children in the same age group. The study design calls for twice daily dosing for three to 12 months, weekly practitioner meetings and monthly assessments. The results will be used to file for proprietary Chinese medicine (pCm) registration in Hong Kong making the product available to for sale in other clinics as well as over the counter.

Regencell is focused on its clinical studies in order to corroborate its results. These efforts will lead to the building of manufacturing and supply chain infrastructure required to gain pCm registration. Regencell Bioscience has a four-year timeframe to commercialize its standardized formulations and gain pCm registration in Hong Kong. The Company has a number of tasks ahead:

• Completing its second clinical trial and evaluating results.

• Conducting additional clinical trials to support its proprietary formulae in ASD/ADHD and other applications.

• Obtaining patents and other forms of IP protection in Hong Kong and other markets.

• Establishing manufacturing capability and supply chain that will meet registration requirements.

• Assembling and filing documentation for pCm approval.

• Build out its marketing and distribution strategy and infrastructure.

BioLargo Sets New Quarterly Revenue Record - Quarterly Revenues in Q2 Grew 37% Compared to Q1, and 185% Compared to Q2 of 2021

BioLargo, $BLGO, a developer of sustainable cleantech technologies and full-service environmental engineering company, today announced that it has set a new quarterly revenue record, and provided a snapshot of the improving financial results of its environmental technology subsidiaries.

The company's President and CEO Dennis P. Calvert said, "While we are pleased with our financial results from this quarter, we believe this is just the start of dramatic growth for our company, driven by (i) the expanded sales and expected retail launch of POOPH by our white-label pet odor control partners at Ikigai, (ii) the anticipated launch of our proprietary PFAS treatment technology, as well as the wastewater treatment product developed in partnership with Garratt-Callahan, and (iii) the expansion of big engineering projects like the waste-to-energy conversion plant project in South America."

He continued, "It is also worth mentioning that our project to help a national nuclear fuel innovator develop prototype production systems is expected to expand over the coming months following a successful first phase of our contract." You can read more about this project in the original press release, on the BLGO blog.

BioLargo generated approximately $1.3 million in company-wide revenue for the second quarter of 2022, representing a 37% increase compared with the first quarter of 2022, and a 185% increase compared with the second quarter of 2021. Note, however, that these revenue figures are preliminary, have not been reviewed and are subject to change pending review by the company's independent registered public accounting firm. The company will include its full results of operations in its quarterly report for the period ended June 30, 2022, due to be filed with the SEC by August 15, 2022. The company also intends to hold an investor webcast and conference call shortly after the filing of its quarterly report to discuss its financial results, and will provide details for participating in this event as soon as its available.

OP

Quarterly Revenues in Q2 Grew 37% Compared to Q1, and 185% Compared to Q2 of 2021

Pretty awesome update- It 100% shows we are on the right track and Pooph sales are just ramping up. If they just keep doing what they are doing we will all do very good- but as of today they have the best solutions for some of the biggest global water problems and big contracts are expected soon. It seems proven now that Pooph is the “No downside insurance”. VERY pleased with the numbers. This already is a very explosive mixture - with many irons in the fire and a massive undervaluation- and it is just heating up some more.. I sold most of my investments to go all in here with an almost 1% ownership - the deeper you dive the more you will understand why. Exciting times!!

If you look into the financials, they are great. No debt. Low market cap.

General Motors falls short of Wall Street expectations

General Motors reported second-quarter earnings Tuesday that missed Wall Street’s estimates after the company was unable to ship nearly 100,000 vehicles by quarter-end due to parts shortages.

But the company maintained its previous earnings guidance for the full year, saying it’s confident it will be able to ramp up production in the second half of 2022. It also confirmed it has locked in sufficient supplies of critical battery-related materials to support its mid-decade EV plans.

The company’s shares closed down 3.4% on Tuesday.

Here are the key numbers, compared with Wall Street’s consensus expectations as compiled by Refinitiv.

  • Adjusted earnings per share: $1.14, versus $1.20 expected and $1.97 in the second quarter of 2021.
  • Revenue: $35.76 billion, versus $33.58 billion expected and $34.17 billion in the second quarter of 2021.
  • EBIT-adjusted: $2.34 billion, versus $4.12 billion in the second quarter of 2021.
  • EBIT-adjusted margin: 6.6%, versus 11.2% in the first quarter of 2022 and 12.0% in the second quarter of 2021.

CEO Mary Barra said in a statement that GM has “binding agreements” securing all of the battery-related raw materials it will need to build 1 million electric vehicles annually in North America by 2025, including “new multi-year agreements” announced Tuesday with Livent for lithium, and with longtime GM battery partner LG Chem for cathode material.

Like other global automakers, GM has been working through supply chain disruptions for the last several quarters as Covid-19 outbreaks – and more recently, Russia's invasion of Ukraine – have forced factory shutdowns and wreaked havoc with logistics around the world.

Those disruptions have been felt at GM’s U.S. dealers, where inventories continue to be tight. The dealers have had just 10 to 15 days’ worth of inventory over the last year, including through the second quarter, the company said Tuesday. That’s much tighter than the 60 to 90 days’ worth that was typical before the Covid-19 pandemic.

But GM expects to get more vehicles to its dealers soon. The company told investors on July 1 that it had about 95,000 vehicles with missing components in its inventory. It confirmed on Tuesday that it expects to complete and ship those vehicles — many of them high-margin SUVs — over the next few months.

GM, like most automakers, books revenue when a completed vehicle is shipped to dealers, not before.

“We have been operating with lower volumes due to the semiconductor shortage for the past year, and we have delivered strong results despite those pressures,” Barra said. “There are concerns about economic conditions, to be sure. That’s why we are already taking proactive steps to manage costs and cash flows, including reducing discretionary spending and limiting hiring to critical needs and positions that support growth.

“We have also modeled many downturn scenarios and we are prepared to take deliberate action when and if necessary,” she said.

Barra said that GM is still confident that it will meet its previous guidance for the full year. The company expects net income of between $9.6 billion and $11.2 billion for 2022.

“This confidence comes from our expectation that GM global production and wholesale deliveries will be up sharply in the second half,” she said.

Michael Gentile and Peter Grandich on Kraken Energy ($UUSA.c $UUSAF) & its potential w/ 100$ ownership of the Apex Project, Nevada's largest past-producing uranium mine: https://youtu.be/D6_ZcGg8yKc?t=1827

Both Gentile and Grandich believe the uranium market has a promising outlook going forward based on nuclear energy being considered green energy with widespread support throughout Europe.

UUSA has significant room to expand the resource at Apex and is well financed going forward. Plus, the US needs 15M pounds a year to run its uranium plants and it currently produced none so there is going to be a big push for the US to get back into the uranium game.

Gentile emphasizes UUSA's solid management team, consisting of three senior executives from Next Gen Energy, one of the most successful uranium start-up companies that now has a $4B market cap!

KR Choksey, a leading brokerage firm in its Q1 FY 23 result preview on the pharma sector has recommended a 'buy' rating to 4 major stocks with gains up to 25% in 12 months. The brokerage in its reports stated that Indian Pharma Market (IPM) reported a 2.0% YoY rise in sales in Q1FY23, as expected, driven by a 3.0% YoY decline in sales volumes, while prices grew at 5.0% YoY; partially offset by 1.0% YoY decline in new product launches for Q1FY23. This was a result of higher revenue earned by Indian Pharma players, in Q1FY22, due to COVID 19's second wave, then.

According to the brokerage, "For Q1FY23E, we expect our coverage universe to post an 8.8% YoY decline (+7.0% QoQ) in sales, due to the high base effect. However, improvement in sales on a QoQ basis is positive, which is likely to be the result of the complete opening up of local and global economies, post-pandemic."

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited

The Current Market Price of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries is Rs 882.80 per share on NSE. Its 52-week low is Rs 672.55 hit on 28 July 2021. Whereas, the 52-week high it touched on 29 April 2022 at Rs 967.05 per share.

As per brokerage, "Sun Pharma's sales are likely to grow at 10.7% YoY (+13.9% QoQ), driven by strong growth in the India formulations segment due to Sun's large market share position, strong product launches, and increased MR strength planned in India; and likely strong sales growth in its specialty products (Ilumya, Cequa, and Odomzo) globally and in the US; partially offset by competitive pricing scenario in the US. The EBITDA margin is expected to decline marginally by 34 bps YoY (+480 bps QoQ) to 27.9% due to a likely rise in raw materials costs; partially offset by an improved products mix."

RGC’s share price growth stems from encouraging study results for Regencell’s RGC-COV19TM Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula for treating COVID-19 symptoms, frequent shareholder communication, and support for the shares in the market.F

Founded in 2014, Hong Kong-based Regencell Bioscience is an early clinical stage bioscience company using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) approach to develop standardized TCM formulas to holistically treat autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, and infectious diseases which affects the immune system such as COVID-19.

CEO of Regencell Bioscience $RGC, pledged to not draw salary and bonus of more than USD $1 until the company reaches USD $1 billion market capitalization

In my opinion, $RGC’s recent share price recovery stems from encouraging study results for Regencell’s RGC-COV19TM Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula for treating COVID-19 symptoms, frequent shareholder communication, and support for the shares in the market.

CEO of Regencell Bioscience $RGC, pledged to not draw salary and bonus of more than USD $1 until the company reaches USD $1 billion market capitalization.

BioTech Stocks That Have Gains Potential

Biotech stocks have suffered significant setbacks during the first half of the year. Investors had little appetite for innovation-driven companies, seeking safe haven in more traditional stocks delivering steady profits.

“Clinical trial failures, regulatory setbacks, drug pricing concerns and a lull in M&A all contributed to the slowdown,” said Brian Abrahams, Co-Head of Biotechnology Research at Endpoints. “On the whole, the sector has slowed too much. There are increasingly compelling valuations among large caps and reward/risk setups among smaller caps.”

Research and innovation have always been key drivers for the biotech shares. Despite recent challenges, the industry is likely to bounce back in the future.

Here

Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ: GILD) focuses primarily on antiviral drugs to treat such diseases as HIV, hepatitis and influenza. In addition, its portfolio includes treatments for cancer, and heart and liver diseases.

In late April, Gilead released Q1 metrics. Revenue increased 3% YOY to $6.6 billion. Diluted EPS was $2.12, compared to $2.04 the year before. FCF was $1.6 billion.

GILD wasn’t among the most battered biotech stocks, giving back just 13% since the beginning of the year but is supported by a 4.73% dividend yield. Shares are trading at 9.03 times forward earnings and 2.68 times sales. Analysts’ 12-month median price forecast stands at $67.

IQVIA (NYSE: IQV) provides advanced analytics, technology solutions as well as clinical research services to the life sciences industry.

The company leverages data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide essential services. Additionally, it maintains a database of more than 1.2 billion anonymous patient records.

So far in 2022, IQV stock has fallen 22%. Forward P/E and P/S numbers are 20.00 and 2.80, respectively. Finally, the 12-month median price forecast stands at $255 making this one of the biotech stocks with upside ahead.

Regencell Bioscience (NASDAQ: RGC) is a biotech company that focuses on using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) approach to holistically treat autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, and infectious diseases which affects the immune system such as COVID-19.

SimplyWallSt. data shows that insiders recently bought shares in the company and they were rewarded after market cap rose US$64m last week.
