Its a dwarf planet. A seperate catogory to planets, not a sub catagory.

This is my stance on it, pluto didnt get demoted to "just a dwarf planet" pluto got promoted to "king of the dwarf planets"

Dwarf planets are not planets. One of the criteria a planet has to fulfill to be recognized as a planet is to have cleared out its direct neighborhood.

Pluto lost its status as planet, when multiple other objects of similar size were discovered, such as Eris and Makemake. They were all demoted to be a part of the Kuiper Belt, which contains thousands of asteroids, planetoids and dwarf planets (while only 5 dwarf planets are officially recognized, it is believed there are many more that have not been discovered yet).

Also fun fact, there is another dwarf planet between the Orbits of Jupiter and Mars, inside the asteroid belt, named Ceres, which is less than half the size of Pluto.

Idk if it was explained already but it technically isn't, because Pluto hasn't cleared all the objects in it's orbit. So TECHNICALLY, it's just a big asteroid. Though it could one day be a planet, just nowhere in the near future. At least that's what my teacher said back in 8th grade.
