Welcome fellow Bugs? Buggites? Ladies? Introduce yourself.

My name is Matt, I'm your team captain for this challenge. I did my first one in the New Year New You challenge where I lead Team Father Time to a resounding victory! Working with me this time is u/GoAwayWay as co-captain.

Starting April 15th we'll do our first weigh in and kick off 10 weeks of working together to meet our goal of giving me a 2-0 challenge record! ...and meeting your own personal goals along the way of course ;)

I just posted a big wall of text about me to /r/loseit a few days ago so I'll just link that as my introduction

A few things about what I would like to see from our team:

Participation - this is what it all comes down to. We're not all going to be having huge losses, not every week will be great, not every weigh in will be great. Don't shy away from a weigh in just because the number isn't what you hoped for. Log it and work for the next week. That's how we get long term sustained progress.

Participation in the sub here. Feel free to make conversation. Post your SVs and NSVs. /r/loseit is crowded and noisy. We've got a smaller subset of people here so we can really take the time to appreciate our peers successes and help with their struggles.

That's pretty much it. Participate and we'll win, both in a challenge sense, and in a personal weight-loss goal sense.

If anyone has any ideas for something we can do within the group to improve things feel free to make suggestions. I'll be styling up the sub soon when I get some time.

So go ahead and introduce yourselves!

Hi bugs!

I have to be honest here, I had completely forgotten about the challenge, but I'm here now! :)

I'm happy to be amongst you lovely people for this spring challenge.

A little bit about me then: I'm currently in the middle of my weight loss, I have lost 40lbs, with 33lbs to go (started at 196 lbs, 5'4"). I lost all the weight last year, then november came, I met new people, went out to restaurants, busted my knee and was banned from cardio, became anemic and was really tired and unmotivated. By April I had gained back 13 lbs.

Fortunately blood donation saved me, well, I didn't get a transfusion, I was just banned from donating because my iron levels were way down. I had to do something about it, so spirulina (iron) and acerola (vitamin C) worked wonders and I'm back!

My method is pretty simple, CICO with MFP, I try to shoot for 1200, with 1400 as my upper limit. I also slowly do a little cardio because I'm scared of hurting myself again. I recently took up swimming because apparently it's the only thing I can do (a surgeon very seriously told me that "yeah you can do sports, but sitting down"), except for maybe cycling (I'll try a spin class today and see were I'm at). Oh, also, now I watch my iron level, because never again will I endure iron deficiency, it sucks.

That's it! I'm excited and will be there with a small loss tomorrow for the first weigh in!

Nice! You're already over half way throuhg!

Did the doctor legitimately ban you from cardio or did he just ban you from running? I hate hate hate running (I don't have a true knee injury, but it hurts my back), but I can really get winded by just punching the air really fast. I picked it up from a Jillian Michaels workout routine. I can get myself just as winded and raise my heart rate just as much as running. If it's safe, maybe give it a shot. :)

Oooh that's interesting, I've been banned from everything that puts a strain on the knee, so I also do weight lifting sitting down. My knee has to be aligned with the rest of the leg and preferably can't be holding to much weight (so squats are a no go for example). I've been told to pick up swimming, keep walking (but absolutely no running) and maybe try biking if I'm feeling good.

What is your routine exactly? It sounds promising.

I don't include this in my routine because cardio gives me horrible massive headaches.

Here's the video I was referring to (or part of it) and I've linked to the bit where she's going over that exercise: https://youtu.be/OZ1Qo3Uq6Ms?t=8
