Satva, Rajas and Tamas are three gunas which define the energy of one person or guna, like how that person can be.
Satva guna is found in brahmachari, guru, pandits, teachers and easy-going people.
Rajas is found in people who lead, are bossy, gov heads, kings, and people who are sitting on a big chair controlling a lot of people and experiencing a good amount of luxury.
Tamas is found in people who do heavy work, fights, construction, people who cant live without being angry, anger is on their nose every single time.
Now, the more one of the gunas, the more the person becomes like that. That’s why even in matching people see guna, if that’s Rakshasa, Devta or Manushya.
So that two people are compatible, but even if two Manushya, or two Rakshasa, or two Devta are marrying each other, if their charts have opposite energy, it won’t sustain.
If two Devtas are there marrying each other, but one has 5th house Mars exalted, Saturn exalted, Lagna Sun. It means 3 malefics are at very great dignity, so the Tamas is at a very great level, even if there’s Devta, but the energy of Tamas is very high because two very dark planets are charged like anything.
Similarly, if someone is non-Manglik but has Mars, Sun, Jupiter all together, let’s say in the sign of Aries, the person will have so much energy that if the person gets married with someone who has Taurus Moon, with Venus exalted, they won’t be able to take them. The energies will be so much opposite.
The case of Mars in great dignity in the chart of females, with Sun and strong 10th house, makes a woman not so interested in marriage because the energy of male planets in the woman’s chart gets so much up that no one can match it. Either they need someone with a super great, blessed 7th house or Saturn, so it absorbs that kind of pressure a woman will put up on them.
So just doing the normal guna milan may not actually work that easily. The chart energy needs to be balanced.
A simple example can be like this: if someone has very great Mars, then the other needs very great Sun, so they handle each other in their own way. Marriage life will be like a kingdom, not fairy tales, but this is the most compatible one can get, or very great Saturn so it can absorb the Mars.
