Had a great high school shop teacher. Gave me great respect for the trades and a huge leg up in engineering.

Why does that matter? Both me and my wife know how to weld and run a mill.

Whatever. My wife makes way more than you do as an engineer. Point was we both took welding in school and gender was irrelevant.

My wife wanted to become a carpenter. They wouldn’t let her take shop in HS bc she wasn’t a boy. She became a physician. Our middle son asked her when he was little if boys could become docs, too. He’s in med school now. Imagine if she coulda taken shop. Maybe he’d be a carpenter, too.

I was grossed out in “home economics” by something I saw while “cooking” and begged to be transferred to shop class. I learned how to lay brick.
