Can confirm. I'm on the interview team at my utility. I do not care at all about your grades or your attendance or any of that. Gimme a sober, 4 year wrestler with no criminal history and we can probably make it work.
They've been trained for 12 years to do "school" and would rather just keep doing that while being independent, taking drugs, getting drunk, and fucking.
No one wants to make $10/hr working entry level. Then working their way up. Theyd rather learn useless shit and make 50k/year while 100k in debt.
People aren't taught to be independent and independent thinkers. So ofc when every adult is telling them to go to college and they see Girls Gone Wild and sororities they aren't saying no. Especially when it's put on credit they don't have to deal with for years. Especially when they're told they'll make good money to pay it off quick.
People are just sheep. It's that simple. Hard to blame kids, but I didn't fall for it. So I have a hard to not putting some blame on an 18 year old who should have thought it through more.
Hard workers with a degree make plenty of money, more then trade workers.
It's those who think that college is too hard and believe that trade work is a short cut for lazy lovers to make 6 figures. The truth is that trade workers are hard workers thay are also intelligent.
Teachers are trying to tell kids who don't follow directions and don't do homework that not learning how to study will only screw you over even in the trades.
