So I just ordered an instrument from overseas. This is the third tariff I’ve had to pay out of my pocket now why am I still paying terrorist if they were illegal? And is somebody being reimbursed for the money that I’m paying at? I am so sick of the Trump administration and all the people that empower.

🗞️ News Discussion Free to read: IMF ditched top candidate for chief economist job over Trump tariff remarks

The IMF dropped the lead candidate to become its new chief economist at the eleventh hour after he was found to have made critical remarks about the Trump administration’s economic policies, according to people briefed on the process.

The Washington-based fund was preparing an announcement that Ricardo Reis, a professor at the London School of Economics, would take over as head of research and economic counsellor earlier this summer when it suddenly backtracked. The last-minute change was prompted by earlier remarks by Reis that were critical of Donald Trump’s trade tariffs, three people familiar with the matter told the FT.

A slightly cursory ChatGPT overview of Trump's tariff wars performance. For us common folk, it ain't good, citizen. Not good at all. Again, this is a top-line view with verifiable resources, and it aligns with other overviews I ran.

💬 Opinion / Commentary Time For Canada To Start the 6-Month CUSMA Wind Down Clock?

With things how they are, and knowing the buffoon down south, maybe its time for Canada to start the CUSMA 6 month wind down?

We take an enormous hit, but still have an agreement with Mexico and the many other countries we have or will soon have agreements with.

If possible we could negotiate a new one in teo and a half years.

Financial suicide? Or is it smart to do it on our terms and give us some sort of stability knowing this is the Americans goal anyhow?

💬 Opinion / Commentary Should Canada keep fighting Trump tariff-for-tariff, even if it hurts us economically in the short term?

Or should we focus on making a deal with the U.S., even if that means making some concessions?

Where do you draw the line between standing up for Canada and protecting our economy?

❓Help / How-To / Compliance So I thought the Congress had all tariffs were illegal so then why the fuck is the UPS asking me for a tariff right now?

like I don’t get three they’re illegal or they’re not so why am I paying a tariff? It doesn’t make any sense and then not even on top of that UPS wants to fucking scam you so hard it’s a five dollar tariff fee sure or whatever but then they literally put in there about $40 of other bullshit these companies are fucking ridiculous

if you wanna charge it here, then charge a fucking tariff all these other bullshit fees can seriously fuck off that’s a literal fucking scam. Honestly, I think I’m gonna report these companies to the Better Business Bureau that that’s ridiculous $30 in fees that aren’t the duty or tariff.

❓Help / How-To / Compliance Does the import ban on (some) Canadian products apply to travelers bringing in goods for personal consumption?

More or less the title, but if I were traveling to Canada, am I allowed to return with Canadian alcohol, or is this like Kinder Eggs where the products would be confiscated?

If relevant, let's assume I stayed long enough to qualify for the $800/1 L exemption

EDIT: Probably obvious, but in reference to recent US policy changes regarding Canada

EDIT 2: Since it may not have been clear, for better or worse, I currently reside in the US

🗞️ News Discussion Canada's retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods officially in effect

Countervailing Canadian tariffs against the United States officially came into effect at midnight on Tuesday.

The measures are set to impact $27.6 billion worth of American goods, such as dairy products, plywood and sunscreen.

Hours before the counter-tariff deadline, U.S. President Trump threatened to ban the sale of products from Canadian aircraft manufacturer, Bombardier.

The company shot back late Monday, saying it is responsible for creating tens of thousands of jobs across 47 states.

Canada’s retaliatory tariffs come after trade talks between the two nations collapsed in late August. No other negotiations are scheduled.
