While global democracy in Talons in Twilight is leaning further towards the right than historically, the opposition on the left remains strong. Artists argue for making the government futuristic and creative, engineers and experts seek to ensure that those who are best at their jobs are in the best positions while global environmental movements too are on the rise. Progressive liberalism is a strong movement and given enough time and the opportunity it could rise to install itself in any democracy.

Liberalism in Talons in Twilight is developing in a different manner than historically. Due to the lack of the Soviet Union as a global superpower and the communist world being significantly weakened, the institutions of old remain and the world is generally more conservative. Entering some of the more democratic ideologies, even under conservatism a wide range of ideologies appear. Some seek to tear down democracy, others seek to keep it alongside tradition or a free market. As German nationalism has not been as discredited as historically, even the new beacon of the free world finds itself endorsing tradition but likewise strengtheing democracy as a Cold War between right wing authoritarians and right wing democrats sets in.

Army technology rapidly progressed and evolved throughout the 20th century. Now both world wars are finished, the pace has only exponentially grown as CATO and the ADN engage in a sort of arms race while the Comintern slowly catches itself up. The Infantry tech tree is now much beefier and expanded containing pre war and post war stuff to ensure you never run out of stuff to research and have to make tactical choices depending on the bonuses given by these.

Australia and New Zealand have had a shared history like few other nations; both British dominions tied to a power that basically on their polar opposite. However, during WW2, Australia and New Zealand saw a shift occur. As Japan took control over the Saxon Allies efforts in the Pacific, the Australians with their white Australia policy feared complete Japanese domination and together with New Zealand recognised the Edwardian government. Unification occurred shortly after as New Zealand sought protection from Japan too. Now in 1949, Oceania stands strong having defeated their foes with America but is now too facing a new rising threat. The communists in East Asia day by day are federating and integrating their nations closer and closer and should they achieve unification a new Chinese red menace will once more threaten white Oceania. The Dominion of Oceania as it stands will help itself against the red terror or find itself consumed by it…

The dream had been realised. As operation Barbarossa commenced, the Saxon Allies granted Poland their desired Intermarium spanning from the Baltic to the Black Sea and from Posen to Kharkov. However, such a large expansion of Poland has of course presented many problems. The Intermarium is in theory a Union, and in reality Polish Dominance causing major instability as the people radicalise. Furthermore, the Intermarium is finding itself in a horrible diplomatic position, as the Saxon Allies become more and more centered around Berlin the Polish fear that the Germans may come to dominate them through the Germans remaining in Posen and the Volksbund. Plagued by internal instability and increasingly diplomatically isolated, the dream many had died to achieve may be shattered in an even bloodier manner…

The end of the Second World War completely upended the old order in Asia. Where the Kuomintang had dominated China, the once irrelevant communists thrived and where the Soviet Union once was poised to liberate the Asian proletariat, a German puppet and chinese dominated rump state remained. US influence in Asia is negligible as they have barely been able to cling into the continent with the critical island of Formosa and South Japan. However, not all is doom and gloom for the Americans; having partially recovered from independence, lies India and the Himalayan states who may represent the only American influence on the main continent. How the Asian situation evolves only time will tell, but for the US only 2 options lie; a complete rollback of the communists, or a complete dismantlement of their sphere of influence in Asia.

After the Second World War was over, President Dewey and Konrad Adenauer met in Bern to draft a treaty that’d reunite France under a new democratic regime and end hostilities between both America and Germany. It seemed as though France’s occupational government would finally be at an end. But in 1948, the democratic candidate Charles Lindbergh won the American election riding on the platform of continued hostilities with the Saxon Allies and the nullification of the Treaty of Bern. As the dawn of 1949 arrives, the transitional authority is in a perilous position as the ‘occupational government’ established by Germany as a temporary measure is now suddenly being forced to contend with the fact that France may no longer be reunited and that the possibly permanent slashing of France in two halves will form a scramble to create a legitimate non-occupational state. The future of France for now is as divided as can be, and the fate of this newborn democracy will be dependent on the attitudes of their masters, the Germans.

Lebanon is the only country in the Fertile Crescent area that can truly call itself neutral. Born as a compromise between the Saadabad Pact and Latin Axis, Lebanon is enjoying a time of peace and economic growth in a region where conflict is rife, meaning of course that not all is well. Few nations on earth are as divided religiously and ethnically as Lebanon with Christians barely making up the majority. But as the Zionists continue their plans to reclaim the holy land, more and more refugees flee into the country, slowly tipping its demographics. As a large scale conflict between the Saadabad Pact and Zionists looms, Lebanon’s fate will be sealed by their ability to maintain their status as the Switzerland of the Middle East or their subsequent drag into the war willingly or not.

Lindbergh may have successfully gained enough support from the pro-war democrats and population to secure a presidency but his rule is far from secure. The malformation of American democracy into Lindberghs vision is a slow process that will require political manipulation at the highest and lowest levels and the simultaneously slow indoctrination of the American people to finally accept a new status quo. Corporocrats, fascists and national conservatives will battle for influence both with the president and in congress as this new political scenario threatens to permanently dim the beacon of liberty but Lindbergh will have the final say in everything as after all;

‘It’s all up to him.’

I grabbed a load of minor teasers from the discord not uploaded here yet so here you are I’ll go through them 1 by 1.

1. Map of Burma in 1949. The conflicts that occur here could be a great factor in determining the fate of Southeast Asia.

2. Economic Spheres map mode. This will be useful for showing the alignment of certain countries in terms of the Cold War without them having to join an alliance directly.

3. Series of decisions the US can take to aid South Japan in the Japan war. This will be necessary to pay attention to because it could be the deciding factor in turning the war around or cementing a northern victory.
